Brit went outside of his house and stretched once more. He took a look around. He tried to remember directions of the area. He looked around and analyzed that there were only a few things that changed. A few buildings here and there, but the street remained the exact same. He started jogging down the street. After jogging for about 10 minutes, he started to smell fresh bread. He followed the scent, leading to the near bakery shop that Mrs. Janice's nephew said to them.
Brit looked at the building. It looked like a standard bakery you can find in the city. To be honest, it looked like a café. Overhead the outside had the name Janice's. There on the name's background had his old teacher, although to him she didn't look like she changed. She still looked young in the image.
Brit took a look inside the bakery. Inside he saw different kinds of pastries. There were cake and bread. The interior of the building was white with a pink line in the middle and near the floor that spread, wrapping the interiors. There were a few seats. The final noticeable thing in the bakery was a hint of the style of the 80's. There was even a jukebox. He looked at the door and saw that the sign already said "open". He pushed the door and a bell behind the door rang. He saw the rest of the pastries behind the glass-protected counter. There were a few pastries he didn't recognize but he recognized the others. There were cinnamon rolls and cherry pie and a few others he forgot the name of. The only thing he remembers is they were delicious.
"Hello, what will you be ordering today?" a woman's voice said as she emerged from a door that leads to the kitchen. Brit stared at her. The woman stared back and squinted her eyes. "Hold on, why do I think I know you?" the woman said. "Hello, Mrs. Janice! It's been sometime," Brit smiled. Mrs. Janice gasped. "Oh, Brit!" Mrs. Janice snapped. She ran up to Brit and hugged him. Mrs. Janice held Brit for a bit then looked at him again. "Oh my goodness... look at you now!" Mrs. Janice said. "You've become so tall! Last time I saw you, you were just like this tall!" she said, motioning to her hips. Brit laughed. "Yeah!" he replied.
"Oh wow. Sit down, sit down for a while!"
"Oh sure."
"So what are you doing here?"
"I'm here for work, ma'am."
"Couldn't find one where you came from?"
"No, ma'am. I already had a job, but I was transferred here."
"Real estate?"
"No ma'am. I will work at the Fire Department."
"Oh my goodness! You're the first of us to be- oh my goodness, congratulations! I remember the times you were such a troublemaker!"
Brit laughed embarrassingly. "Yeah..."
"Oh don't be embarrassed. Did you come here alone?"
"No ma'am. I came here with Chief and his girlfriend. You know Chief right, Mrs. Janice?"
"Ah, yes! A bit blurry, but yes. But, who's his girl?"
"Oh, you'd have to meet her to know her ma'am. I can't describe her in my own words."
"Oh... I see. So, have you come to buy some of my pastries?"
"Yes ma'am!"
"You know, since you've come back, I'm going to give you a few boxes as a welcome back of any bread you choose!"
"That won't be necessa--"
"Oh don't be shy! I can make pastries with some help from my sisters! Oh, plus, I have this new bread I found out about and tried to make. Let me get it..."
Mrs. Janice stood up and went to her kitchen. She came back with a plate of plain looking bread. "Here," she said.
"What is this?"
"Well, it's called pan de sal. It comes from a different country. Apparently it fits good with any stuffing and maybe a few foods that you use as stuffing."
"Oh..."
"Here's a few foods that can be used as stuffing. Can you try it?"
"Sure Mrs. Janice."
Mrs. Janice put on the table some peanut butter, chocolate, strawberry stuffing, mayonnaise and some other foods. Brit tried them all out and responded with a thumbs up every time it's good. None of it was a bad combination. It took them a while, and by the time they were finished, it was already seven in the morning. "Oh look at the time. Mrs. Janice, I have to go. I still have some unpacking to do," Brit said. "Oh dear-y me! Yes sure. Before you go, choose a pastry of your choosing. I'll give it to you in a jiffy!" Mrs. Janice said. Brit looked at the menu. His eyes read quickly the possible choices on the glass. In just a few seconds, he decided. "I'll have the brownies, the strawberry donuts, and the cinnamon rolls, please."
Mrs. Janice took some of the bread that Brit chose and put it in their individual boxes. She tied them up using one red ribbon. She gave the three boxes to Brit gently as to not mess the toppings of the breads. "Thanks Mrs. Janice! See you next time!" Brit said as he waved goodbye and exited the door, the bell ringing as he went out.
Brit went back to his home with the given treats from Mrs. Janice. Brit saw the movers lifting the belongings of Chief and Pangaea into the old abode. He went into his house and took a thermos from a tray that they used while in the car. He opened the lid of the thermos and felt the steam hit his face. He felt it was hot enough for three cups of coffee or tea. He prepared breakfast for his friends.
Cadmium was driving his vehicle knowing that the new firefighters will be there. It had only been a week since the retirement party and they're already here. He pretended to patrol the area when the truth is he wanted to see him again: Brit. A friend he didn't mean to betray. He drove slightly slower to see if he was there. Cad's eyes widened when he saw his ex-friend. He was talking to Chief and Pangaea. Brit then turned around to get something from his house. Chief noticed the slow driving car and gave a subtle nod. Cad understood and started driving away.
Unbeknownst to Brit, Chief and Cad had kept in touch for a few years to mend the broken friendship. They were communicating through their devices with Chief having a fake account as to not be suspicious. Chief updated Brit's situation to Cad from time to time. When Chief reported to Cadmium that they were going back, Cadmium knew he had to lay low for sometime.
After the situation with the eighth graders, Cadmium came clean to Chief and his brother. Cadmium was forced to do what the eighth graders wanted and didn't have any intention of really hurting Brit. Since Brit keeps on ignoring and avoiding him, Cad couldn't get a chance of apologizing.
When Chief wanted to talk with Brit before moving, he was supposed to talk about forgiving Cad. Unfortunately, Brit rushed out of the house for an unknown reason, but Chief dismissed it as a personal emergency so he let him be.
Chief watched the silver vehicle drive away. He sighed knowing that this will be a hard mission for all of them. Convincing Brit to talk with Cadmium was one thing. To mend the relationship altogether? It would take all the mercies of deities all through out the world to do so. "Hey Chief, you want a cinnamon roll from Mrs. Janice? I can't eat these all alone!" Brit shouted from the house. "Invite the movers! They need some too," he continued. "Sure!" Chief replied.
