The vase on K.A.’s nightstand is modeled after this butter churn of an extinct Great Auk, sculpted impeccably by Lauren Hanson. You can check out her peerless ceramic work here.

Inside the vase is a blue rose, a genetically engineered breed that does not exist in nature. Whoever put it there must have had quite the means to acquire such a Rare specimen.
K.A. Was born with cleft feet, a congenital malformation of the feet. When she was awake she wore special footwear to get around without pain. She is not currently wearing those devices, obviously.
