Mr. Doug and the little boy went down the stairs and entered the kitchen where a crime had been committed days before.
When Mr. Doug first entered the home that evening, he first noticed a beautiful scene where a crime of art had been committed. He saw that wine was split on the kitchen floor to cover up that blood had, in fact, been split instead. Truly someone with artistic talents had done this, and he assumed it was his soon-to-be masterpiece. But, now he wasn't so sure...
The boy, who was leading him to the place to fix the lights, could have also easily used this artistic method. He had in fact destroyed Mr. Dougs masterpiece, so he could have also made the beautiful scene in front of him.
“Were you the one who had the brilliant idea of covering up the blood with red wine?” Asked Mr. Doug, inquisitively.
The little boy paused for a moment before answering, but then replied, “No. It wasn’t me.”
Then the little boy opened a door in the kitchen, and what appeared in front of Mr. Doug was what seemed to be a bottomless staircase.
“Is this where we can fix the lights?” Asked Mr. Doug, who again was answered with more silence. The little boy started walking down a long staircase into what Mr. Doug imagined to be the basement.
“Well I guess you only like to answer me when you feel like it.” Mr. Doug said loudly as he stomped down the stairs behind him in protest.
When they arrived at the bottom it was pitch black, and the only light Mr. Doug had was from his cigarette lighter. But all the sudden, he smelled something horrifying around him. In Mr. Doug's 65 years of life, he had never smelled anything like this before, but he could imagine what the smell was.
“It smells like something died down here.” He gasped as placed the wine glass on the floor, so he had a free hand to cover his nose.
But he followed the little boy through the darkness anyway, and arrived at a break box at the far end of the basement. He could figure out for sure what the smell was later when he fixed the lights.
The little boy moved aside as Mr. Doug opened the break box and switched all the switches back. The lights all came on one by one around the home. The home was now as bright as any other home on the street.
Mr. Doug could now see everything around the basement, but what he saw when the lights turned on made even an artist, like himself, shiver. But he wasn’t sure if it made him shiver was out of excitement, or fear.
There sat what appeared to be a woman in a chair across the room. She had a lovely red dress on with earrings to match, and a bracelet around her wrist that didn’t go with anything she was wearing. It looked like it was made by a child. She appeared to have once been a distinguished lady, but now her face was decaying and was the cause of the horrifying smell.
