wish upon the falling stars

falling stars

noun /fôliNG ˈstär/

a meteor or shooting star

In a land far, far away—oh, well, alright. It was an exaggeration I used on the children. My bad, my bad. You are not a childish one, for me to retell in a childish manner, right? Pardon me. Let me correct myself.

This place. This country. This tale took place in this country, in a place I am so very familiar with—oh, excuse me. I mean, was. A place I was familiar with.

A place that once welcomed me as a home, which later on turned into a hell that drove me away.

In the mansion of Zelinda, more than twenty years ago, two identical stars were born.

Identical? Heh, who am I kidding? The two stars were the epitome of contradiction. Sure, they were splitting images of each other—or, as so many said, ‘The younger one’s look is such a carbon copy of the older one! Oh, such a shame that her attitude does not imitate the graceful one.’—but, as said by many people, they shared opposite traits.

The older star was such a graceful and elegant woman. A perfect lady, one must admit. Small voice, obedient, timid, kind-hearted. Perfect attitude, perfect manner, perfect everything. Oh, to be so perfect that your parents love you dearly.

As for the younger star—well, just imagine the polar opposite of the bright star. Loud voice, unruly, brazen, irritable. Disgraceful attitude, disgraceful manner, disgraceful everything. Nothing but a disgrace to her own family.

Unfortunately fortunate, however, that her parents did not bat a single eyelid to whatever inappropriate thing she did. Thus, granting her a sole freedom that her sister had never known of.

She liked martial arts, so she learned. She liked archery, so she learned. She liked horse riding, so she learned. A curious little woman she was, she liked so many things that the older star could never experience, and she did all those things alone—oh, no, not alone. The twin stars had a close friend. As much as he, clearly, favored the older star—just as so many people did; he spent yet a lot of time with the younger star.

Curious, do you not think so?

The young and naive little star did not care of such trivial things. As long as she had someone to spend the time with, she would enjoy any kind of companion. She was used to everyone adoring the older star, after all, and she had hardened her heart to such a fact.

The friend, still, enjoyed spending time with the little star as much as she did. Little star was simply his dear friend, the kind of friend that spent time in an adventure together. Little star and friend would go on an adventure every day, and every night, little star would return and tell older star of her adventure that day. Older star’s eyes would sparkle in excitement and curiosity every time little star came with a new story, making little star proud of her daily adventure. Older star was a curious person, you see, just like little star—well, I guess they were not very different, after all—however, she was sickly.

Going on an adventure was but a dream for her, and little star’s tale was the only source she could know of the outside world. Pitiful, do you not think so? Well, indeed, young and naive little star thought so, too, for she always came back to her at the end of her journey.

Hm? Do you think little star would despise older star? Oh, no, no! She would never despise her for being favored by others. Rather, do you not think it is other’s fault for favoritism? Pitiful older star partook nothing in such favoritism. She was, after all, a very lovely lady. That, is undeniable.

The two stars loved each other, but the people around them were the reason they grew apart.

Oh, you are wondering who are the two stars?

They are Deneb and Altair.

two stars shall be very near each other,

and at the same time, so far insulated from each other
