SCARLET [POV] :
Hmm? It's already 8 o'clock in the morning?! I'm late for work! What the hell was I thinking by putting only one alarm?! Mr. Howard is going to kill me! He always gets mad at stuff, including small stuff.
I work at 2 different jobs. I work at a coffee shop as the servant and at a shop as a cashier. I make money for me and my mom. I've been trying to get more money because she has brain tumor grade 2.
I took my bowl of cereal and kissed my mom goodbye. I was running on the road with my bowl of cereal like a mad woman and that's when I bumped into someone.
Someone who looked familiar and that looked extremely rich. I think I saw him somewhere but I'm not sure where. My bowl of cereal was still full so I said sorry to the man and started running again. Now that I think about it, I should just eat at the coffee and not run with this bowl of cereal.
When I entered, my boss saw me and handed me my apron. I threw my cereal into the trash. I was going towards the cash register when a costumer on table 7 called me.
I don't know why he called me specifically but it looked like he didn't take his order and so, I went towards him. He looked very serious to me so I just asked his order.
He had a notepad on his hand and a very luxurious pencil. We could say that it costs about 50$. "What would you like to order, today, sir?" I asked the man.
"I would like to have the special double dipped donut with a espresso on the side."
His voice looked so serious. It sounded like the voice a murderer would use if he wanted his voice undetected. "Ok, sir. Is there anything else that you want, sir?" I asked the man
"No, now go get my coffee." How rude! He should appreciate what people do to him. I came to the table because he didn't even come close to the counter.
He looked around the place like he was inspecting the place. I think my boss knows him but something makes me feel like he wasn't just an ordinary man stepping into a coffee shop.
I asked the boss if he knew him.
"Of course, I don't, ya big dumb idiot. What? You think that I'm his father or something? We don't even look-alike. Now go back to work before I fire you, missy."
That man's attitude pisses me off. Talk about disrespect. Such a damned boss I have!
I would've worked somewhere else but this is the only job that is close by my house and that is available. All the others fired me or didn't want to have anything to do with me. Probably because I didn't do a good resume.
I gave the order to the man. He had a name tag on his shirt with the name Josh written on it. When he took one sip from the coffee, he just spit it out without even thinking. Later on, he tasted the donut, as well.
I thought he was going to spit again so I just got a garbage bag and a dust pan. But, no. He didn't spit this time. I couldn't really see what he was doing with the donut. It felt like he was just playing with it. Wait.. no! He's savoring it like he was a food taster. Is he?
He looked like he was on his late twenties. So I asked. "Sir? May I know what you're doing with the food? It looks like you're having trouble eating it." That's when he said
"You may have had this thought in your mind but I'm a food tester. I only test food for entertainment so don't worry. And I'm very sorry for the way I acted to you. I also wanted to know the costumer service, in here." *Sighs* It was just for entertainment.
Well, I asked Josh how the donut was and he simply liked it. Of course! It was Penelope, my best friend, who did it. She is the best cook on earth! She could make professional pasta, sushi, hamburgers with her own personal sauce, coffees with design and many more.
She comes to visit my mom almost every day. I could say that my mom likes her coming because she's always enjoying the food that Penelope makes. But if you're ever wondering, no. Penelope didn't make the coffee, Peter did.
Peter is Penelope's boyfriend. Peter and Penelope are together since 8th grade. So technically, they were together for at least together for 5 or 6 years. They are so cute together.
Josh decided to leave and we continued doing our work. It was already dinner time and Penelope came to my house to make it. I only have about 2 hours before my other work starts so I asked Penelope to make me the usual. Ham, cheese, salad and her personal sauce. The house started to fill up with that beautiful smell. The thought of eating Penelope's food makes me drool so much.
"So.. how's the food? Did I screw it up or is there sauce missing?" worried Penelope. "Penelope! Stop worrying about your food. It is always good. No.. great! Am I right mom?" I said.
"Of course, sweetie. You should have faith in yourself. Judging, giving up and complaining won't bring you anywhere, got that?" said my mom confidently.
"Yes, ma'am. I would try my best!" screamed Penelope, like a military chef.
"Now shut your mouths and let me savor her cooking! Thank you." said my mom, temptingly trying to eat Penelope's food.
Penelope and I could literally see her facing drooling over the plate. We tried to restrain ourselves from laughing at my mom's face.
She looked so happy so why ruin the moment? That's when Penelope started laughing. Muffled laughing that almost every neighbor could hear.
I said goodbye to my mom and told Penelope to keep check of her schedules. If she misses at least one pill, her health's going to be an issue. At least, that's what our family doctor, Bob, told me.
I was about to leave when I noticed that I forgot my bag. Luckily, Penelope handed it over to me and told me to be vigilant and careful of my surroundings.
I went on ahead and, again, bumped into that man from the morning. The guy whom I thought I saw somewhere but I was not sure of who he was.
I don't know what he was doing roaming around the street but the man seems suspicious. Real suspicious.
