simple elegance or refinement of movement
That night, I slept really well. You know, the feeling of sleeping some place you do not recognize is different from sleeping on your bed, right? The sense of security is different, causing some people a hard time trying to sleep in a new environment. I was like that, too, and sleeping in Vega’s place, although comfortable to some extent, was difficult.
In the security of my own bed, however, I was able to find comfort. Furthermore, having Vega in my arms was a reassurance for my slumber.
I am a morning person, even from back then, so I woke up earlier than Vega did. Vega, on the other hand, is not a morning person. It was difficult for her to wake up early, no matter how long she slept the night before.
I watched her sleeping in my arms, breathing peacefully without a care to the world. I glanced at the window behind her, realizing that it was still dark outside. Well, we were in no rush. I was not going to wake her up until the sun was far up.
Yet, her eyelids flickered and she flinched. Then, gently, her eyelids opened in slow motion, revealing the dark orbs hidden beneath the eyelids.
“Good morning,” I whispered, rubbing her back softly.
Vega brought her sleepy gaze to my face with a confused and disoriented look. “Good morning,” she replied, then struggled around to see the window behind her. Oh, my beloved darling who was never good with mornings.
“It’s only dawn,” I hushed, brushing the side of her arm. “You can sleep some more.”
She dragged her droopy eyes back to study my face, furrowing her eyebrows and pouting his little lips instinctively. Then, she yawned. “No,” she said, sitting up and stretching her arms. “We are leaving today, no?”
“Is something wrong?” I asked, reaching to her cheek to bring her face directly to me. “Do you want to stay for one more day?”
She was in daze as she processed my words. Then, shaking her head vigorously to disagree and to wake her up, she patted her knees. “Let’s leave,” she stated confidently. “But, well, can we explore this place a bit more before we leave—or get caught, I guess?”
My darling was so lovely first thing in the morning. I think I could not stop myself from smiling, but I was not trying to hide my bemusement, anyway. “Sounds terrific,” I said, as I sat up and stretched my back too. Then, I asked what should we explore, to which she answered, the garden.
Dare I say, perfect idea. We could not explore the garden last night, what with the lack of lighting. I also loved our garden, and would love to explore it once more. Perhaps, one last time.
So, we prepared ourselves.
We got out from the window, jumping down to the garden. Our bags were with us, so we could go straight out after that. It was still dark, just a little before sunrise. That way, it was less risky for us.
We trekked carefully around the bushes and trees, reaching the open area that was hidden behind the trees. Just in time, the sun began to rise. Vega was in awe, her eyes widened in enchantment as the gentle rays of the sun emerged from the horizon, illuminating the earth and its occupant beneath. Vega’s jaw dropped in wonder, unconsciously cupping her cheeks as to contain parts of her overflowing amazement.
Thus, she set free. She dashed into the open space filled with flowers and trees and other forms of vegetation. She curiously studied each plant, tapping her chin with her finger and furrowing her eyebrows, acting like a scientist examining a newly found species. Sometimes, she would touch the leaves on the tree, watching dew drops trickling down the leaves as she touched them.
And in that moment, I thanked God for letting me live a life where I could meet her.
She was so engrossed in the moment that she did not realize I was approaching, placing my hand around her hips to pull her into my arms. A little kiss on top of her head—that ended on her forehead, because she turned around just in time—and I asked, “Do you like it?”
“I do,” she admitted, turning her face back to the scenery and cupping her face to hide her big smile and the color on her cheeks. Oh, she was an adorable little bunny.
I leaned in and whispered in her ears, telling her to enjoy the scenery. Then, she dashed away; not sure in excitement or in embarrassment. Well, that’s my little kitty.
Watching her exploring the garden encouraged me to do the same. I looked around, finding a variety of flowers that I used to love. Spotting a carnation over the corner of my eye, I picked it up. I love carnations, especially red ones. Thinking that it would suit Vega, I called her.
Vega turned around, and I slipped the flower on her ear. I was right. “It suits you,” I told her, satisfied with my choice. Vega froze, then she touched the flower. I thought she did not know what flower it was, so I asked her, “Do you know what flower it is?”
Vega shook her head.
I knew it. I took her hand and dragged her to the area where carnations grew. “It’s carnation,” I explained, pointing at flowers around us.
Vega pressed her lips, suppressing her smile. She explored the colors the carnation offered, picking up a white one. She went back to me and tiptoed to tuck the flower on my ear. With a satisfied grin, she said, “This one suits you!”
Oh, my little fairy. Vega was really adorable and energetic. She fit in between those flowers as though she belonged there. Maybe, this beautiful one was really the garden fairy, taking care of the plants and animals of the garden.
My little fairy that I love so, very much.
what a bewitching little fairy you are
little fairy.
