I look around looking for an exit to help the remaining students escape. Troy saw me looking around and he pointed to the back room. An exit! I sigh in relief as Troy and I try to direct the students out the door. “Come on! We have to hurry up!” I looked around making sure nobody was left behind and I saw the guy who sat next to me tripping over his shoelaces and the creatures towering over him, tearing him to pieces as they finished up Ms.Wells. I feel a hand grab my wrist pulling me out of the classroom.
“We got to go now!” Troy says leading the groups to safety with me in tow. As we got to an empty classroom and locked the doors and blockaded the doors with the chairs and desks. I walked over to Troy as he was looking out the window alone. “Do you know what's going on?” He asked, biting his thumb nail. “I think it’s a zombie outbreak.. I watched shows about them, so I think the way to kill them is to shoot them in the head or something like that,” I say grabbing his hand before he makes his fingers bleed. “How are you not sickened by what you just saw?” He asks looking towards me, I shrug, “he was homophobic, and I’m just not really bothered by gore and stuff.” He sighs and stares out the window and I walk away after patting his back.
There's a low knocking on the door and I look out of the window and see Mika. I start to panic a little and she signals that the area for now is clear, I start to move the barcade and the students start pulling me away. “What the hell are you doing?” one of the students asked, gripping my arm hard. “Someone's out there, they said it’s clear for now..” I say, trying to get out of their death grips. I go back to the barricade and start slowly removing the desks and chairs with the help of the other students. After the blockade was removed, I unlocked the door so Mika could come in.
As the students put the barricade back I sat with Mika. Troy joins us, “you’re covered in blood,” he said, handing her an emergency fire blanket as she was shaking. “There were a lot of them..They killed my friends...” Mika says, gripping onto the blanket tightly. I rub her back trying to soothe her, “we will leave tomorrow, but for now we will search for food and drinks in groups.” One of the students stood up. “Who said that you’re in charge?” They said, “Because he knows how to deal with them,” Troy told them, and he looked at me, “do your thing.” I nod.
As I started putting groups together, some of them were upset because they were put into groups with people they do not like. “Can’t we just decide who goes or not?” a girl said, obviously annoyed. “No, if you guys decided who goes, someone would end up dead,” I say, continuing putting some of the students into a group.
After I got a group of students together, we started making a plan on how to go out without dying. “First we have to find weapons to defend ourselves from the dead, but some of us have to stay behind to keep this classroom safe for our return with food and water,” I say, and no later than a minute, several students volunteered to stay behind. “I don’t want to risk my life for people I don’t know,” one of the girls said, obviously giving me spoiled bitch vibes. I sigh, “look, how are you supposed to survive in a pandemic like this if you’re in a group?” “I’ll be on my own,” she says, rolling her eyes. “How about in the middle of a horde of zombies,” I say, looking straight at her and seeing her change from being cocky to horrified.
Some of the students went to move the barricade. After the stuff is out of the doorway, I go out first to see if it was safe to go. I nod to Troy, and he motions to the rest of the group to follow him to me as I make my way to what looks like a janitor closet. There were three crowbars, a couple metal pipes, 2 plastic mops and 1 metal broom. Damn it, only six weapons and there’s eight of us, I say looking over the tools. I turn to look at the group, “anyone good at fighting?” Two students raised their hands, Mika and one kid who barged into the classroom which caused the students to panic. As I hand out the tool to the students, I tell them to aim for the head.
