"Tyler?!" Zane asked in amazement. "How could you?" Zane yelled the next moment, getting out of the soldier's grip and hurrying to Tyler. "What was that supposed to be! Are you insane? Why did you do that?!”, he pressed his hands together angrily, while Tyler twitched a little confused.
"Zane. Calm down…” Nathan, who came running, tried to calm him down.
"Maybe we could have helped him!" He continued to shout while Nathan tried to pull him back.
“We couldn’t!” Tyler lost his patience after all of Zane’s accusations. “You couldn't have done anything for him! I did the only thing we could have done! I redeemed him! "
"Zane, Tyler is right," Nathan supported him.
"But ... But he was human!"
"Not anymore!" He yelled at Zane, who winced. “It's over as soon as you are infected! Don't you get that?"
Zane became calm and clenched his hands together again, staring into space onto the floor.
Meanwhile, Zero's gaze turned away from Zane and towards Asagi. "Everything OK?"
"Yes, thank you Zero," Asagi nodded. "Is what Tyler said true?" She asked, dismayed.
"Unfortunately, yes ..." Zero turned his gaze back to Zane, who angrily turned away from Tyler. "I did some research myself and found nothing ... What Tyler did was probably the best option..."
Angry and full of incomprehension, Zane trudged back with Nathan to join Asagi and Zero, who had walked over to the soldiers behind one of the trucks. There they waited for Tyler's further orders. Tyler seemed to have calmed down and began to report on how to secure the entrance in his cockpit.
As a result of Zane's uprising, unnoticed by everyone, something began to pulsate inside the black crystal the man had left behind when he died. A violet light seemed to glow, surrounded by veins deep inside the crystal.
"What's going on now?" Remarked one of the soldiers when he was shocked to see that the sand began to move around the crystal.
The sand moved in a circular motion towards the crystal and seemed to gather around it. Not only the sand but also the corpses of the people, who had previously attacked the soldiers for no reason, were pulled towards the crystal together with the sand that had come out of the entrance.
"What is that?" Asked another soldier as the corpses and the sand seemed to combine to form a viscous lump, which seemed to twist in itself like flowing lava. Then a corpse, previously black and streaked with veins like the Infected, flowed along the outside of the lump. Suddenly the corpse opened its eyes and gave a high-pitched scream.
"SCREEEEEEEEEEE!"
The soldier screamed out in shock and began to fire at the lump. More soldiers immediately joined him. More high-pitched screams came as the lump turned wildly under the hail of bullets.
"Cease fire!" Tyler yelled as the hail of bullets pelted the screaming black lump. A tendril shot out of the clump and the unprotected soldiers who stood between the two trucks were knocked over with a whip, while the tendril immediately withdrew into the clump, which suddenly began to move.
The lump stood up.
However, it was no longer a lump, a seven-meter-high humanoid creature stood in front of them. The creature's main body appeared to be made from one of the corpses that the crystal had previously absorbed.
The rib cage and other bones were still clearly visible within the black, muscle-like mass. However, that was the only part that still looked human. The legs, thin compared to the rest of the body, had developed another joint. The creature had three heads, the head in the middle seemed to be that of the upper body, while the bodies of the other two heads, which sat a little below the skull to the left and right, merged into the massive arms of the creature. The shape of the creature was best compared to that of an upright walking gorilla. The creature's grotesquely massive arms ended in equally massive fists, even larger than the arms they carried. Veins ran across parts of the creature's body and skull from a pulsing purple spot in the center of the rib cage.
The creature gave a high-pitched scream while it stretched its arms as it prepared to approach the soldiers who had previously been thrown down by the tendril.
"Damn it, take up the defense!" Tyler yelled as he and the other ATBS, as well as some soldiers, opened fire on the creature. After the first hits from Tyler and the others, the creature put its hands in front of it protectively. Its massive arms almost completely shielded its body from the bullets. Yet, the bullets from the soldiers and the ATBS seemed to have little effect. Compared to the Infected, who had previously been struck down by them, only Tyler's heavy bullets seemed to work.
Tyler's bullets tore huge holes in the creature's arms, partially puncturing it. The black blood that spurted from the wounds spread across the floor, but there was no further damage. On the contrary. After a short time, the wounds seemed to close again.
"Stay away from the blood!" Zero yelled warningly at the soldiers.
"Tyler! That doesn't work!” Nathan yelled, surveying the situation immediately.
"I noticed that too!" Tyler replied annoyed. “By the time I cause permanent damage to the thing, I'll run out of ammunition! Damn it!"
“We have to withdraw! We are not equipped for a fight like this! "The second ATBS shouted in approval to Nathan, while they continued to fire at the creature and Tyler yelled:
"Caution!" In the brief moment in which Tyler had stopped firing at it, the creature had reached for the truck on its right and used it as a shield, while it was now charging towards the two ATBSs, which were in close proximity.
Tyler and the other ATBS were barely dodging when the creature threw the truck around itself and hit the second ATBS after all. Hit by the force of the truck, he let go of his rifle, stumbled briefly, and fell back to the ground. Unable to hold the truck's flight power, the creature let go of the truck, which after a deafening sleigh ride remained a few meters away from the overturned ATBS. The overturned ATBS immediately tried to straighten up when the creature was already charging towards it.
"Zane, protect the ATBS!" Yelled Tyler, who was reloading his cannon.
"Huh?!" hesitated Zane, who started shaking again.
"Build a wall of ice or a pillar!" Shouted Zero as the creature got closer and closer to the ATBS, which was frantically trying to reach his rifle.
"Never mind!" Tyler yelled through the speakers of his ATBS, pointing the gun at the creature's legs.
"Tyler! I'll take over!” Shouted Nathan, forming a rune.
The creature towered over the ATBS, which instinctively put its hands in front of it in preparation for the impact. The creature raised its huge fist just before hitting the ATBS when Tyler fired a single bullet at the last moment. The armor-piercing bullet ripped through the air, shattering the creature's waist, which landed on its arms.
Suddenly, there was a ball of water floating in the air in front of the Infected colossus's chest, something inside of which seemed to be glowing. The next moment it exploded and a huge shock wave was released. The explosion inside the water ball pushed the water apart so strongly that it threw the colossus back and separated it from the ATBS. Due to its lying position, the ATBS revealed only a small area, which meant that it received a little impact from the pressure wave. The colossus, on the other hand, had received the full pressure wave of the explosion and flew a few meters through the air before landing next to the truck that it had previously smashed against the ATBS.
"Asagi, go! Fire on the truck!” Shouted Nathan.
"OK!" Asagi replied immediately, who in the next moment already fired a bolt of lightning from her hand at the truck, which immediately went up in flames with an explosion.
"Take cover!" Zero shouted and barely had time to warn the soldiers of Asagi's attack, who jumped for cover when the blast from the explosion hit them.
The flames of the explosion completely enveloped the colossus, which gave a high-pitched scream as it tried to sit up. Tyler immediately placed himself between the colossus and the entrance of the hospital.
I cannot do anything! Zero thought bitterly, the flames right in front of his eyes. His gaze wandered over the soldiers who were helping each other up; to the fallen ATBS, which straightened up; to Nathan and Asagi, who had just turned the fight around. What am I doing here? He thought when Tyler ripped him out of his thoughts.
"Zero go! Go to the hospital with the troop! "
"Tyler! We have to withdraw!” Nathan shouted immediately, contradicting Tyler's suggestion while running back to Asagi and Zero.
"No! If we do that, it will only get worse! I requested a tank that should fix this thing! You are going to the hospital with the second team as planned! "
"But ..." Zane wanted to object.
"Come on now, as long as it's distracted!" Tyler yelled again as the colossus stomped out of the flames and his submerged body slowly regenerated. Whereupon Zero and the others ran towards the entrance.
"Come on Zane!" Zero patted him on the shoulder as he ran past.
"Team two, it’s your mission!" Shouted one of the soldiers and signaled the soldiers over to the entrance of the hospital with a wave, to which Zane and the others were also headed.
"Be careful, behind you!" The second ATBS yelled over his speakers as he pointed his rifle in the direction of Zane and the others.
Zero and Nathan turned around and saw more infected people, including another colossus, approaching the hospital.
"Damn it, there are more to come!" Reported one of the soldiers at the entrance.
“Where are the reinforcements?!” asked another soldier.
"Tyler! We have to withdraw!” Nathan yelled again.
"No! We stick to the plan!"
"Let us help you at least!" Nathan continued.
"You have to get the survivors out of there!" It echoed over Tyler's loudspeaker, who dodged the first colossus that struck at him.
"He's right, we have to get in there and save the survivors," said the troop leader, who had previously called the soldiers to him. "Otherwise, there might be even more infections."
"But Tyler!" Zane worried.
"Just go!"
"Come on!" Zero signaled Nathan and Zane towards him, while he ran to the entrance amid the hail of bullets falling on the Infected behind him.
"Everyone here?" The troop leader asked immediately when Zero and the others arrived at the site. Meanwhile, many of the smaller infected had been mowed down by the soldiers’ hail of bullets. A shot could be heard in the distance. In the next moment, a huge explosion tore the shoulder of the second colossus into pieces.
"There are reinforcements!" Yelled one soldier when he saw the tank and the soldiers advancing in the distance.
"Captain Seaver, we're starting the evacuation," the squad leader reported to Tyler via his communicator.
"Roger that! Good luck”, Tyler replied with a slightly stressed voice, still trying to keep the colossus away from the soldiers.
"Team two march out!" The group leader commanded, and the soldiers moved somewhat hesitantly to the hospital.
"Good luck Tyler! Take care!" Yelled Zero.
"Stay alive Tyler!" Zane added.
“Why are you still here? Go now!"
"All the best", Asagi added while Nathan looked around anxiously, trying to overlook the situation.
"Good luck guys ..." Tyler said, his voice barely audible through the roar of battle, before the group turned to the soldiers and followed them into the hospital. "And now it’s your turn!" Tyler turned back to the colossus standing in front of him.
