SPARTACUS
"Tomorrow will be ein fery schpecial day to all of us," Gremelda said as she walked at an excruciatingly slow pace in front of us while we all stood in a line next to each other. I swear, sometimes she made me feel like this was some sort of detention camp or whatever.
"Und you all will behave at zee fery best, or I'll be fery displeased." She stopped in front of me and breathed into my face. "We wouldn't want zat, now would we, Spartacus?"
"No, ma'am," I answered.
I wondered what would be so special for her to summon up her whole team. Gladiators and Rewarders, the team that handled the bets, and Oenamous were all present.
"Would you like to know why tomorrow is ein schpecial day?" she asked, walking to the next man in line, Gannicus.
"I would, oh, very beautiful Madame Gremelda," he answered.
Oh my God, What a suckup was that man.
"Tomorrow," she continued, walking to the line of Rewarders, and I couldn't help to look at Tesla instead of looking at her. "We will get a fery schpecial visitor."
Tesla's eyes found mine but I wished they hadn't because she stopped in front of him, grabbed his chin, and yanked his face in her direction. He immediately looked at her, eyes wide with fear.
"Tomorrow, zee boss of all Invicta hotels will pay us a vizit to inspect our hotel. You people all know mein hunger for competitiveness. Und if you don't know, then you do now," she said, releasing poor Tesla. "I want our boss to see that we are zee best. We have an impeccable reputation and zis Invicta earns zee best money out of all other hotels in zee world. Tomorrow, we will show him how we work and why we are zee best and I want NO mistakes. I want zee best show tomorrow!" She walked towards the door. "Meeting ist over," she said and left.
"Jesus, I'm so afraid of that woman," Crixus said.
"I'm not. I love that woman," Gannicus replied, standing between Crixus and me while wrapping his arms around our shoulders as we walked to the arena for training again. "She's so cute with that German accent. Especially when she's all angry and shouting all these German words like 'nein' or 'du hurensohn'. I have no idea what the fuck it means, but it's precious."
"Hurensohn means son of a whore, you dumbass, it's not meant to be precious at all." Cedi sighed as she walked past us.
"Oh, hey, Cedi," Crixus said with the sweetest voice ever used.
I looked over my shoulder and found Tesla's eyes again. He was just wiping some sweat off of his forehead which he no doubt got from Gremelda's action. His cheeks were all red from where she'd grabbed him. Poor boy. I smiled at him with sympathy. We all had to undergo Gremelda's treatment some day.
He waved me goodbye when he and the other Rewarders went in different directions from us Gladiators.
"How is someone like her cute?" Crixus asked.
"What can I say, in my dreams, I'm making her mine."
"Well, dream on," I told Gannicus. "It's not allowed, but even if it was, Gremelda would never hook up with a swine like you. She has a certain grace, she has class. And you? My dear Gannicus, you are proud to fart and burp at the same time." I rolled my eyes.
"Hey, that's not easy, man!" he replied.
"You stand zero chance with her, buddy."
==================================
The boss had arrived this afternoon, so, just like Gremelda had ordered, we were to give him a "fery schpecial" show.
She really went all the way because before we were up, there were all these exotic dancers performing some freaky magical fire dancing show. It was quite spectacular and I wondered if the Boss would be impressed with what we had to offer after this sensation. Maybe she dug her own grave with this.
While I waited backstage in the arena, I saw her sitting next to a man I'd never seen before. He had to be the big boss, but he seemed so much younger than I expected him to be. Maybe it was just because I couldn't see him clearly.
"You think that's him?" Crixus asked.
"I think so."
"He looks so young."
"I was thinking the exact same thing," I replied.
"He must be so loaded," Crixus said. "And scary."
"Fucking loaded." He didn't look so scary though. But I knew he was, he was the boss of all and this was a scary world. Our guests weren't just any kind of men. They were murderers, hitmen, psychopaths, and more, and he was the one that had to control them.
Because we had to please Gremelda, Oenomaus decided we did the blind battles tonight. Guess who was one of the gladiators wearing one? Honestly, I was so not in the mood for that. Not that I ever was, but ok.
Luckily, everything went well. I obviously won and currently, I was being inspected and observed by no one other than the boss, who stood in front of me, his eyes tracing all over my body.
He was indeed young. But there was something else about him. He had a certain air that made me feel smaller than I actually was. Maybe it was just his status, I don't know. It was a feeling.
"I have to say that it was rather spectacular to see my employees in action and I fully understand why this hotel is so successful when it comes to gladiator gambling. Other hotels can learn from you fine gentleman," he said, walking back to stand next to Gremelda, who looked as proud as can be.
"Zank you, Sir," Gremelda said.
"I can see why the men are so eager to battle and win. The prices aren't nothing. Gremelda, your collection of Rewarders is remarkable. What a bunch of beauties together before me."
"I am fery pleased myself."
He walked to the line of Rewarders and something just didn't feel right. I had an uneasy feeling. Especially when he stopped before Tesla a little longer than he stood before the rest of them.
"So, normally they pick their prizes now?" the boss asked.
"Yes, Sir."
"Call me William. All that Sir everywhere makes me feel so old."
"Fery well, William."
If I wouldn't know any better, I would dare to say that Gremelda actually seemed capable of blushing. I knew she'd never admitted to it, though.
I can't blame her. Boss was actually quite an attractive young man. He was dressed in a suit made to fit his body like a glove. You could just see he reeked of money. His hair was quite long but cut as if he just stepped out of a fashion magazine. It was light brown with a few blonde streaks. He had a little bit of a tan. His jawline almost killed me and his eyes were brown but so light. I'd never seen that before.
"So Spartacus is to pick first because he won, right?" he asked.
"Yes, he ist," Gremelda answered.
William looked at me again. "So, who would you pick today?"
"Uhh...I would pick Tesla," I answered.
"Oh, why?"
"Because...he's cute?" I said, and it somehow came out as a question.
I mean, what was I supposed to say? I couldn't tell I knew him as Ryder. I couldn't tell I liked him. I couldn't tell he belonged to me.
"He certainly is..." William agreed. "Well, gentleman and miladies, I won't hold you up any longer. You can claim your prizes," he said, walking to the door. Gremelda followed him like a bitch. "You don't have to keep me company from now on, Gremelda. You have certainly proved yourself," he added.
"O-oh, yes. Zank you, William."
He then opened the door but stopped his motions. "However..." The hairs on my neck stood up straight when the uneasy feeling came back to me again. And I was right. "I'm afraid that Spartacus has to pick someone else tonight. Tesla, follow me, please."
Tesla looked at me briefly, biting his lip before he nervously walked towards William.
I wanted to stop them. I wanted to shout at the boss that he should go fuck himself, but I couldn't.
Fuck!
