Power levels

Technically there is no max score but the highest anyone has managed to get in the world is a 15.4. I think, Rp wise, 8 or 9 would be the cap for characters starting ranks. Minimum for any skill is 0 with 0 being the equivalent of being able to light a candle with your mind or changing the color of your eyes.

Natural Summoners are an automatic Rank 6 with their rank going up or down from there depending on the evaluation and development. Most Natural summoners can achieve a Rank 8 with time and training.

To be considered a mid range magic user, you need at least one Rank 4 or higher skill. You need at least one Rank 8, two Rank 7, or four Rank 6 skills to be considered a high rank magic user. Having a high power level can also put you up there as well.

Most mental, sensory, physical enhancement, and shapeshifting skills are usually between 0-3. Power and skill can boost them past that but it's hard.

Healing type skills start out between 4-6 due to rarity and usefulness. Their rank can go up from there. Tops out at 10.

Sight related skills start out at a 1 and top out at a 7. Control, frequency, and clarity are major factors for their Rank.

Currency(Don't ask about the exchange rates please.)

There are three types of currency that you can come across while in an ether city.

The first one and most commonly used one is made up of coins carved from spent Ether gems and crystals.

Crystals: 1¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢ denominations

Gems: $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, are the main denominations

The downside to Gems and Crystals is that they are nearly as heavy as metal coins. They also carry a slight ether charge even though they are spent. This charge can make people with high ether sensitivity uncomfortable or sick when handling or carrying them for prolonged periods of time. This, however, usually only pertains to Gems as they are much more potent than Crystals prior to being spent and thus have a stronger residual charge. They are also harder to make but the upside is that they are the most durable form of currency in Solabar.

The second most common one uses flexible clear cards that look like plastic but aren't. The cards have a slightly embossed surface with a holographic image. They're thinner and more flexible than credit cards but they are about the same size and more durable. They have the same denominations as Gems.

Lastly and the most rare is the paper and coin money of the country that an Ether City resides in. Most of those living in an Ether city prefer to exchange it for Gems, Crystal, and Cards since they're easier to use inside the city.

Credit cards, debit cards, and ATMs are also a thing.

Shade Basic powers:

Mana Burn/Burst: All shades have this ability to some extent but normal shades can only use it in life or death situations as it functions in a similar fashion to the Adrenaline Rush in humans. It works by the shade burning through it's mana reserves at an accelerated rate to give itself a boost in power. Both the rate and the boost are fixed

Shade den: A space that only Shades that are bonded to a Human can access and use. It is where they go when they aren't active and they can also store things in it for their human. What else it can be used for, how much space it has, or what can be done with it depends on the bond between the Shade and their Human as well as their respective power levels. More details will be added as the rp develops.

Shadow Manipulation: A stealth skill that allows a Shade to hide itself inside of a shadow. Can also use it to superficially hide it's human bond-mate depending on how much trust and compatibility the two have.

Flattening: A skill that allows a Shade to take on a two dimensional form.

Semi-invulnerability: A quality that Shades acquire when in Soladar. Only light based attacks, other Shades, or their human bond-mate(if they have one) can harm them. As a side note, Humans and other living things that end up in Akabar also acquire a similar trait. The only difference being is that instead of the Light based attacks or any of its possible equivalents, it's the over exposure to the high levels of Ether in Akabar that get to them.

City's Finalized(?) Back ground:

Old Town: The abandoned remains of the Ether Collection City Tortuga that was nearly destroyed by the Draconians during their first attack. This attack was stopped before the entire city was destroyed by them by Miranda's Mother who was a Shade Speaker. It is because of her efforts that the majority of the people of Tortuga survived that day. After the War was over, the people of Tortuga tried to rebuild the city with mixed results. Many people gave up and moved on while many others, who had nowhere else to go, remained behind. Now its crumbling remains are the rambling slums of Sol City which was built around it to replace it.

Sol City: The Ether Collection City built on the remains of Tortuga to more or less to replace it. It is a now a "shining example" of a modern day Ether fueled City or so the Sol tourism board says. They're mostly right and with constant flow of processed ether and ether made goods going out and various consumables and materials coming in, it is also a bustling center of trade. Not all of which is necessarily 100% legal.

The Edge: The part of the slums in Tortagu/Old Town that's the closest to the Rift. This is also where Miranda grew up and still currently lives.

Regarding Supernatural Critters

Vampires

Technically, vampires don't exist in Solabar unless they're in a legend, myth or other fiction related story. They also don't technically exist because it's generally a human type monster. There are, however, giant vampiric bat type Shades in Akabar though. They're as intelligent as humans and can get a temporary power boost when they feed on something stronger than them magic wise. As a shade type/race they're generally friendly/neutral towards humans and others but they tend to produce some of the worst Eyeless as well.

Undead

Undead don't exist per say and mucking around with dead bodies to reanimate them is illegal because of the treaty but that doesn't stop people from trying to bring the dead back to life. Things like Frankenstein's monster and ghosts are possible but things like rotting, brain eating zombies aren't. Creatures like Vi are possible because normal living tissue like muscles and skin of humans and animals can remain viable for weeks after the death of the original owner with proper care. Bodies of Shades are a little different. Souls/spirits of Shades remain inside of their bodies after death and because of this, they don't rot. The only ways to free the soul/spirit of a Shade is for the body to be destroyed or having a Soul Share remove it. A dead Shade body can be destroy either by being exposed to sunlight/bright light or being eaten.

Soul Shares and Sunstones

Soul Shares are Dracoians with the ability to carry around the souls of dead Shades in their bodies. They are also able to take the souls from living or dead bodies with a single bite. The taking of a soul from a living body does not kill the body but it results in a thrall obedient to the Soul Share that bit it. This is generally frowned upon when this is done to lesser Shades but not necessarily taboo and, in some cases accepted. When it comes to higher Shades and other Dracoians, it is considered illegal to do without the Shade's or the Elders' consent.

As to why they would consent to it, once turn and they are healed of all of their injuries and illnesses that they have a the time and are returned to their prime if they have aged beyond it. Afterwards they have enhance regenerative abilities when injured, can no longer get sick or age, and can only be killed by their master or will die when their master does. They also retain their self awareness and freedom of thought but they cannot disobey or go against the one that turned them into a thrall in the first place.

Souls that a Soul Share absorbs can be purged by eating the petals of an Ether tree. If a soul decides to stay with a Soul Share and returns to it after it had purge their body once of them, they become a sort of summon and servant for them. When they have not been summoned, they dwell inside of the Soul Share's body where they tend to the souls currently stored inside of it.

Akabarian Sunstones help to amplify certain aspects or abilities a Soul Share has when swallowed by them. When this happens their body absorbs the stone and Soul Share enters a more primal state of being. The only way for them to revert back is for one of their higher soul servants to remove it for them or their soul bond if they have one.

Stone abilities-

A single type/color of Sunstone will actually suppress all the abilities of a Soul Share regardless of what the stone color is supposed to do. The color stone that does this can be any of them but which one it is differs between Soul Shares and, unlike being a Soul Share, it is not an inheritable trait so there is no real way to predict which one it is. If found and swallowed, its suppressive affects won't affect the souls already in them, their soul servants' abilities, or their link to the one that they share a soul bond with or their soul bond mate's abilities.

The strength of the stone's effect is determined by the strength and purity of the color and the stone's size.

White: Turns a Soul Share into a Soul Collector and expands their compacity to store souls. A Soul Collector is able to find any dead Shade within range and will devour them when they find them. They will keep doing this until they can find no more or they have reached their limit of how many souls they can store in their body. Swallowing multiple white stones will increase the amount of soul the Soul Share is able to contain as well as the range it can sense dead Shades.

Red: War.

Blue: Birth

Yellow: Control/summoning

Rainbow: Any stone that contains 2 or more colors other than black. Has full strength of contained colors for the stone's size. If it contains the color of a Soul Share's suppression stone, it will act like that's stone's color and not a suppression stone. For those that have the Rainbow Sunstone as their suppression stone, it depends on a specific color combination for that Soul Share for them to be affected by the stone. It is also the rarest and most prized of all the stones but it is also the hardest for the Soul Share to control next to Black ones. Swallowing more than one Rainbow Sunstone will cancel out the affects of the colors shared between the stones but will multiply the affects of unshared colors.

Black: Turns a Soul Share into a Life Stealer. It increases the appetite of the Soul Share and drives them to consume all living Shades within range. It also increase the compacity of their stomachs and grants them the ability to swallow down whole Shades no matter how large they are. They will not stop until all Shades within range have been devoured or until their appetite has been sated and their belly crammed full of living Shades. It is considered the forbidden stone due to its affects and it near impossibility to be controlled.

General

As a side note: Gems are denser and harder then Crystals but they both use silicon and oxygen in their formation. Gems are most like Garnets while Crystals are more like quartz. Ether fuel cells have a silicon based gel added to them to help keep their out put under control and steady. Pure ether is easily contained in glass containers. Liquid ether harvested from 'live' sources like humans or ether mutations is the most stable form of it. Unfortunately, this stability makes it hard to use as fuel and is generally used to make potions or as an additive for amplification.

Those who have high ether sensitivity or suffer from Flare sickness can't ingest ether or magic made products as it will make them sick or sicker.

Spent Gems and Crystals are commonly used to make either currency in Ether Cities, jewelery, or other adornments.

Another thing for Shades: They need a host because they need a 'live' ether/mana source as well as protection from the sun.

Hoverbikes go 'Vweeeeeeeeeeeeeeemmmmmmmm'

The eyeless are pretty rare to begin with and Shades have a mutual 'kill on sight' which makes them even more rare. Having the Eyeless try and start a war between the humans and the shades would be right up their ally but the majority of the human race just view shades as a different kind of animal. Most of the intelligent races of Akabar also try their best to stay away from the humans that do venture into Akabar and that time runs faster in Akabar than it does in Solabar. A few weeks in Solabar might be a few months in Akabar.

Raw Brain storm stuff for the Rp. The stuff I put here is semi relevant and back ground world building stuff.

Edit: I'm not sure if I'll be posting the rp or not. Most of the information here is still relevant to the Twin World story though.

A couple of friends of mine thought it would be fun to have an rp base on one of my stories and I thought it might be a good way to get stuff to fill out in it.

There are some rather mature parts in it, mostly where Sei is concerned so it's rated M for Mature.
