Roses on Window Sills

Hatchling Progress.

Hatchling Progress.

Jul 26, 2021

It was not long until the little hatchling started showing great improvements. By the end of the first week, she was starting to gain energy and weight. She was also showing signs that she was able to understand Rose, which is a huge developmental milestone for young dragons.

Without hesitation, Bethany started to play with the hatchling to help with muscle development and problem solving when she could not get to where Bethany was.

Bilmont decided to give Rose a break from the assignments so she could focus on the hatchling. That on its own was enough magic practice that Bilmont could never replace. It was spuratic, situation-dependent, and quick thinking that he could not simulate on his own.

Rose would take the hatchling hunting with her after a week. At first, the hatchling would just follow and watch as Rose would catch rabbits and deer to bring back, but before long, the hatchling took care of the rabbits and would bring it back to Rose so she could save it for later. Inbetween rabbits, the hatchling would climb up onto Rose's shoulders and look around from a higher place than she could on her own.

Flying was still a little difficult for the small dragon. Typically, dragons start flying at around two months old, however, because of the lack of muscle development, this hatchling could not even get herself into the air. Bethany was trying to help with that, but the hatchling still has a ways to go before she can fly for any amount of time.

About three weeks in, Rose started focusing building the muscles in the hatchling's wings. Small excersizes that she used when she was nursing Bethany back to health were used. It was slow then, but it worked well enough for Rose to try it again.

During this time, the small dragon had not grown much. This was to be expected due to her health, but it worried Rose all the same.

At this point, the small dragon was around 5 months old. She will be considered for her name very soon.

I apologize for the hiatus, I had a small writer's block. I know all the major points of the story, but sometimes, I don't write the chapters until the week before they are to be uploaded and I was just not happy with how it was turning out.

I want to provide the best work possible. I hope you can understand!

Hope you enjoy!

Rose has always lived in the mountain tower with her mentor, Bilmont. From an early age, she was skilled with magic, but she knows that it is not the reason she was there. She looks different from others. She has been there for as long as she remembers and she does not even remember her parents. However, when a strange man starts hanging around the tower, things start to unfold.
