Eteri's father is a professor at a local university and therefore knows the importance of things like peer review and scholarly resources. And has undoubtedly taught her the very important lesson that, if you don't have correct citations, you haven't got anything.
Academics have very little to do with the comic, but this is basically why he's not going with her on the journey (plus she's 12 and really should be out of the house by now).
