The Freckle Under His Eye

The Freckle Under His Eye

Aug 02, 2021

Adrien's POV

The next couple of weeks were spent going to class, hanging out with my roommates, and having lunch with Luka almost every day, whether that being at one of the dining halls on campus, or just sitting out on the grass with homemade lunches.

I really enjoyed hanging out with Luka. He was a nice guy, and we had a lot of things in common, which meant we had a lot to talk about. The more I knew about him, the more I liked him.

He was a visual arts major with an interest in fine arts like I was, so we had multiple classes together. He wanted to make painting his career, just like I did, and oh, he loved cats. I also learned that he has an older brother who is a teacher and that he is still living at home with his parents instead of staying in a dorm, considering he only lives fifteen minutes away from the University.

I haven't been to his house yet, but he promised me that one day he would show me his artwork. I've seen some of the work that he's done in class so far, and they're incredible, so I can only imagine what his other artworks might look like.

Luka and I were currently hanging out on campus grounds, sitting on the grass underneath a large tree. I had a sketchbook open on my lap with a pencil in hand, drawing a quick picture of Luka.

It was a windier day. The wind gently brushed the strands of Luka's dirty blonde hair, making him look all the more photogenic. He was leaned back against the tree, admiring the scenery around him, giving me a lovely view of his side profile. As I sketched him, I made sure to take in every detail of his face. His sharp jawline, the piercings on his ear, the single freckle resting under his left eye. The way his eyes squinted as he looked up at the sunny sky. I captured all of it.

He wore a casual navy blue button t-shirt, leaving the top buttons undone. His jeans were light washed and ripped at the knees, and a silver necklace dangling from his neck. All I could say was that it was a pleasure to draw him because he was a great model.

"Are you almost finished?" Luka asked. I lifted my head, smiling softly.

"Almost. Just hold on a bit longer."

Luka hummed in answer, staying put in the position he was sitting in. I spent the next couple of minutes sketching, before I finally finished, smiling down at my work in satisfaction.

"Alright, I'm done."

"Thank god," Luka groaned, sitting up straighter. He shook out his arms and stretched his legs.

I laughed, smiling crookedly at him. Luka turned and flashed me a grin. Then, he shuffled closer to me, leaning over my shoulder to take a look at the sketch.

"Wow, it already looks amazing," Luka commented. A light blush coated my cheeks.

"You think so?" I glanced up at him. Luka's eyes met mine, and he chuckled.

"Of course I think so. I can't wait to see the finished product. It's going to look great."

I hummed and nodded. My stare didn't falter, and I ended up staring at Luka for a moment longer, but his gaze didn't move either. We ended up just quietly looking at each other for another full minute, before I cleared my throat and looked away, and pulled out my phone.

"I have class in like, ten minutes," I said, looking at the time on my phone screen before I started packing my art stuff back into my bag.

Luka nodded and stood up, holding his hand out to me. I shrugged my bag over my shoulder and took his hand, thanking him as he helped me stand up from the grass.

"I'll see you tomorrow then?"

"Yeah," I nodded, smiling at him.

"Okay, great," Luka smiled back, "see you tomorrow, Adrien."

"Yeah, see you."

I watched as Luka walked off, but not before giving me a wave. I waved back at him, and then, I turned my back and headed in the opposite direction, to the fine arts building.

***

After class, I headed back to my dorm. I reached the third floor of my residence building, and I stepped out of the elevator, heading down the hallway until I reached my dorm.

I unlocked the door and stepped inside. Music instantly hit my ears, a gentle strumming of guitar strings, and a feminine voice singing. That's when I kicked off my shoes and stepped into the living room, catching sight of Luella sitting on the couch, singing away with a guitar in her hands, while Faryn sat on one of the chairs listening and reading.

Luella stopped the moment she saw me, and she smiled brightly, "Hey, Adrien!"

"Hey," I smiled back, "what are you doing?"

"Oh, nothing really. Just chilling and singing some songs," Luella replied, "Got any recs for me?"

"Uhm..." I hummed in thought, putting my bag down on the floor by the door before I walked over, sitting down on the other vacant chair, "what about truth or dare by Emily Osment?"

"Ouhhh, a throwback," Luella laughed and winked, "sure thing!"

I smiled and laughed. I got comfortable on the chair, leaning back with my legs pulled up while Luella closed her eyes for a moment, thinking to herself for before she opened her eyes, and started strumming the guitar.

Luella started singing, strumming her guitar while she slightly swayed to the tunes. I listened intently, slightly bopping to the music, dancing along in my seat.

She was really great at singing. She had a distinct voice, and the lyrics that poured out of her mouth were like a splash of rainbow on a blank canvas. Vibrant and beautiful. When she got to the chorus, she strummed harder at the guitar and sang higher, louder. Eventually, Faryn had stopped reading and was fully listening to Luella sing, and it got to the point where Faryn and I started singing and dancing along to Luella.

We sang loudly together, the three of us now up from our seats, jumping and dancing around, like our own mini dance party.

When we finished singing the song, we all just started laughing to ourselves, while catching our breaths.

"That was so fun!" Luella laughed, smiling wide, "we have to do that again. Gimme another song!"

That's how we spent the next hour or so, listening and dancing away while Luella sang and strummed her guitar.

[Precious Series Book Two] As the weeks go by and summer break ends, Preston King and Adrien Aguilera's mending friendship becomes just a bit more complicated as they start university, and they're separated by distance.

For Preston, while he's excited to take his first steps into gaining the career he's wanted for a long time, he isn't sure how he is going to juggle his heavy course load, make new friends, while also rebuilding his relationship with Adrien while they are far apart from each other. And for Adrien, well, he just doesn't know what he's doing, period.

With new friendships and (possibly) new relationships, both boys struggle to comprehend what that'll mean for their future, and if they'll come out of this stronger than ever, or end up crashing and burning.
