Mavis explained that her mother gave it to her as a gift right before she died. He then asked why she was putting it on and why she was hiding it. She told him everything from the fact that her brother couldn't do anything right, to how she was doing all of her brother's exercises for him. He let go of her arm, and she finished getting ready, grabbed her sword, and ran out of the house.
