ACT I Cover by JWhitnee (https:///www.jwhitneyart.com)
===========
After over a year of work, I'm so excited to share Shadow's Prey with the world. It went through an entire rewrite. I was able to work with an amazing illustrator, JWhitnee, to help bring scenes from SP to life. I taught myself how to do block carving and printing to create chapter headers that are unique to each episode (even the ones that look the same are all individual prints from the same block). And I even dove back into website design (you can check SP on the web @ https://www.shadowsprey.com).
All this so that I could tell a story that I felt deserved to be told, whether or not anyone at all listens (though y'know, its super cool if you do.)
Albert Camus is my absurdist philosopher bae. The title of Shadow's Prey comes from this quote by him, so it only makes sense that it be the epigraph for the first Act of SP:
"But I don't care for normal love when I'm entirely drawn to violence and screaming. And that's probably not smart. But now what does intelligence do to me? You see, I put everything here, blue on white, and don't hide anything anymore. But I'm not putting on enough screams and enough fever yet. For almost a week now, I've been silent, I've been shutting it down, I've been keeping watch and I've been ruminating. But I who have spent my life mastering my shadows, I am now their prey, it is with the shadows I struggle."
(& we have one more content warning for good measure.)
See ya'll SATURDAY for the first two episodes of Shadow's Prey!
Haunted and hunted, a misfit team of steadfast friends and new allies must untangle a web of past and shared trauma to stop another god-shattering cataclysm.
+++++++++++
The gods of Lifrasir are dead, but their legacy lives on in the the war-ravaged land and the loas, people born with the ability to channel an element. The Palamidia, the brutal military force of the Solarian Empire, has brought most under their rule despite resistance from the independent regions.
In the blood-soaked Theatre, Kanna fights. She awoke with no memory, but her body knows how to move. How to kill. She buries herself in violent monotony, ignoring the gnawing ache that tells her something is missing. But inside of her there is a dark thing. A feathered thing with teeth that will not be ignored.
Haru is light, but he knows the dark. Trapped on all sides by his duty to the Palamidia, he cannot escape the memory of his lost Legatus. But when another is given power over the military, he knows he has to find her. No one, and nothing, will stand in his way.
