Where Angels Die

An Old Playground - Part 2

An Old Playground - Part 2

Aug 09, 2021

We arrived about 15 minutes earlier, when we entered the gym, that was more like a nlyflar[1], it completely was empty except for Muknilat Lekan Matinzu, the grumpy physical education teacher, who was taking notes near the front door.

- You two have 10 minutes before I come back - he shouted after passing an okijare[2] ball to me, after that Muknilat Matinzu went out from the nlyflar, maybe looking for something to be angry about. Julia went to the dressing room, and I went directly to the multi-court, I sat down in a metallic bench in the left side of the nlyflar, there I changed to my gym outfit, that was a pair of running shoes, some black long shorts, a red t-shirt and a pair of small socks, I grabbed the ball and start to bounce it against the floor.

- Are you ready Hadsan!? - Julia shouted; I was about to answer until I saw her.

That morning, Julia was wearing a grey over-sized sweater and a dark blue jean, also she had her hair untied, but when she entered to the multi-court, Julia was wearing a black skinny t-shirt, some dark purple shorts, running shoes and what looked like no socks, and also, she had her hair tied in a ponytail. I just stayed there with my mouth open, I couldn't believe what I saw, that morning I thought that there was no way Julia knew what a sport was, but obviously I was completely wrong.

- Is something wrong Luke? - she asked me with her suspicious look.

- And you say that I'm the one with a fernako Julia? - I said in a sarcastic way.

- Oh Rakuro’x, shut up Luke! - she said laughing. We began to a play some rounds of okijare, she won almost all the rounds, and after the 6th one, the rest of the students started arriving, so we stopped playing and sat down in one metallic bench and waited for Muknilat Matinzu to start giving out the instructions.

During the whole class we did all kind of physical challenges, those were more or less like the ones of the Personality Test, but not as difficult or dangerous. After the class finally ended everyone went to the showers and then to the dressing room, everyone seemed wrecked, including me. When I was done, I came out and I waited for Julia in the front door of the nlyflar, I sat down on the floor like for about ten minutes, I began to think that maybe she left before me, but then she came out with her hair still wet.

- I thought you were gone already - she said in a sarcastic way and crossing her arms.

- I thought about it, but then how I was supposed to walk you home? - I said looking directly into her eyes, and this time it was Julia the one who blushed, after an entire day of embarrassing myself, I was finally getting my gazhnah[3] together.

On the way back home, I made an interesting discovery, Julia's house was just four durichj’x[4] away from mine, and yet I don’t understand how I didn’t notice her before, I got all exited over nothing. Neither of us said a single word during that time, even though I tried to talk with Julia, she still looked upset, and besides I didn't have anything to talk about. It was when we arrived to our qichjlime[5], that I thought that maybe she was like that because it seemed like I didn't care about what she told me earlier.

- Julia what was your brother's name? - I asked her, hoping she didn't snap at me or something like that.

- His name was Henrik - she answered with her head down looking to the ground.

- Henrik Kovar? That sounds familiar, how did he... - I tried to ask without being firaftiru[6].

- It was right before last year Galai[7], he was coming back from a party or something like that, early in the morning, as my father was still working in the Inkaffet[8] Krefari[9] and my mother was back in Najaria[10] for her business, no one could take him home, it was too far away and late to walk, and he refused to take the praaduli, so his azhnerechj lend him a bike, the next morning his dead body was found a few durichj’x away from the coast, behind a street, with a junirr brifft[11] on top of his chest - she said signing.

- He had one brown eye and the other one blue, right? - I asked her nervous.

- Yes, how did you know? I thought you didn’t know him- she asked disconcerted.

- He was in my linguistics class, also I saw it in the dy’zhnifek[12], but what exactly happened to him? - I said.

- The blackcoats[13] said that Henrik committed suicide, because of the wound that he had in his chest, the fingerprints on the murder weapon matched his, there were no witnesses, and also because they didn’t found another reasonable explanation to what happened, still I don't believe it, he was actually a very ultari person, he couldn’t possibly do something like that, but with no other real evidence or leads they closed the case and refused to keep on the investigation - she said, this time looking at me.

- Havarizh’te, Luke - she said with a smile on her face.

- What for? - I asked her lost.

- For being a bariko[14] azhnerechj - she said, I answered with a smile, even though that destroyed me inside for no reason, because how could it hurt if she just was a new stranger in my life? We didn't talk more after that, we just walked in that lonely road surrounded by the essence of the sea in the air and the beautiful orange gardens.
