Chapter 1
Autumn is a magical season. The weather is crisp, yet warm and the colours are oh so vibrant! The Sealie and Unsealie courts change and the world is once again plunged into darkness, leaving only memories of the bright lights of summer. Cohen was enjoying this weather while walking to their astronomy class in the East wing of Alva Kapheira Academy for the Gifted and Enlightened, lost in their thoughts. He was thinking of the dream he had last night. The one with the endless library and the magical music calling their name. There was a table with many candles, flowers, and a long glowing beam of light. This is where they found a music box with carousel details and gold horses dancing around. The library seemed oddly familiar, like a memory from their childhood that was blurry around the edges. A loud bell snapped Cohen out of his daydreams, they were almost late! Running was hard in starched cotton pants, but they managed.
The astronomy classroom was a beautiful old classroom with a giant working model of the solar system and chalk boards full of calculations scattered all over. The door slammed open and Cohen walked in a bit dishevelled and tired “sorry I’m late, Mr. Zander.” they said a bit out of breath, “No worries Mx. Merripen, but please do try to be slightly more punctual next time.” he said, “now go take a seat, we are learning about asteroids and comets that orbit our solar system.” Cohen took his seat next to Nairna and Aster, two of his closest friends. Throughout the class Cohen found themself zoning out and thinking about their strange dream and why it felt so familiar, like they had read about it somewhere before. Though his thoughts didn’t get in the way of studying, Cohen had an insatiable and impulsive need to get out and explore the old chapel. The rest of the class went as expected, they learned about how asteroids are found, and what ancient civilisations thought of them.
