As has already been mentioned in the comments, the constellation of Felis the cat was proposed by a French astronomer in 1799, and widely recognised throughout the 19th century, but when the constellations were rationalised in the early 20th century it was left out of the final list of 88. Other constellations that were lost included Bufo the toad, Manis the pangolin and Limax the slug.
Let's just be thankful Jones hasn't been told about Canes Venatici - the hunting dogs. We'd never hear the end of it.
Smith is a Siamese cat. All he wants is a quiet life, the standard feline existence of sleeping, eating and sniffing things, leavened with the occasional bit of pouncing. It’s a pity that none of his friends will leave him alone long enough for it to ever happen.
