*** Thomas Gaillon POV ***"
Oh, you're thinking about making me a slave or something? Perhaps torturing me? Pff how cruel, but the answer is quite simple. It won't work. I'll simply kill myself. So the question is. Do you want a dead son or a talented son?"
I furrowed my brow as I looked at the boy in front of me. Not a hint of hesitancy and indecision when mentioning the act of suicide. The flames surrounding my arm slowly dispersed as I shook my head helplessly.
I can't believe this is my son...
This demeanor and unfaltering confidence is unbelievable and I was genuinely inclined to believe that he would commit suicide if I acted rashly...
*sigh*
"Fine, I accept. What are your conditions?"
"Oh so you do have a brain? Well I guess your not the family head for nothing." He said as he shrugged his shoulders mockingly.
"Watch your words bra-"
"Yeye, I'll tone it down. Now for my conditions. First thing first, I want you to PROPERLY take care of my mother. You will treat us as proper guests and heed to our needs. If we ever happened to be in a difficult position you will also help us out. You can do that much, right?"
"Fine, I'll relocate you to the main manor."
"That's more like it. Secondly, you won't stick your nose where it doesn't belong. I know you're fully aware of the friction between the Mercers and my mom and me. I will deal with them however I see fit, and your not allowed to meddle me!"
"Tch, you know your talking about my wife and kids right? You better choose your words carefully-"
"Relax old man. I won't hurt them. In worst case scenario I'll just shatter their pride. It'll be beneficial for them as well to be taught a lesson."
At this point my pride was already hurt, but I had no choice, but to accept.
"Fine, is that all?"
"Yes and no. I'm sure you'll do this anyway for our mutual benefit, but I'll state it anyway. You will teach me anything you know about magic and mana. You'll give me your full support and grant me the necessary resources and knowledge to advance as a mage."
"Alright, if that's all then I have a condition as well."
"Sure, what is it?"
"You're not to wander off the estate without my permission, is that understood?"
"Tch, I guess you're not willing to let go of your new tool that easily huh?"
I smiled haughtily upon hearing that remark.
'Well at least he knows his place' I thought smugly.
"Alright, if that's all I'll be on my way. I doubt anything's left for you to retrieve in this manor. After all you just blew half the sh*t up. Follow me to the main manor, I'll have someone there show you your new rooms."
*** Chaterine Nixon POV ***
As I entered the main manor a maid immediately showed us our rooms. I guess Thomas used a communication device to deliver his instructions while we were on our way.
During this whole time and even now as I walked towards the rooms I was entirely in a daze. My mind and thoughts was beyond disorganized at the sudden development.
First off Kayn starts absorbing an endless amount of mana, completely sucking my mana reserves dry. Then, as I wake up, half of the guest manor was obliterated by what seems to be his awakening. The next thing I knew, I was taking a beating from Thomas as he furiously entered the scene, but somehow Kayn had suddenly caught him off guard and pierced his abdomen, and all off a sudden they were striking an baffling deal.
Thomas Gaillon was without doubt one of the most prideful men I've ever known, and never in a million years would I believe he'd accept a deal from a 5 year old child.
I could only lament in horror as Kayn boldly started bargaining with Thomas, but to my surprise Kayn had him completely on the hook, and not even a hint of fear or anxiety was on his face. It was as if Thomas was being played by the palm of his hand. Seeing the entire confrontation take place form a third person perspective wasn't just ridiculous, but scary.
I'm sure Thomas realize it himself, but I'm dubious if he noticed to what degree he got manipulated. Kayn offered a deal which favored us in every way by playing on Thomas interests and emotions. He riled him up to shake his mental state and immediately after presented the benefits. It seemed like a complete win for Thomas as he got everything he wanted, and maybe even more, but in fact that's not the case. There's completely no losses for Kayn and unlimited opportunities opened up and it's only a matter of time...
Should I maybe contact them again...? As of right now he can only stay here for this long... To reach his full potential and avoid exposure to his world defying talent maybe it would be for the best. Even if I have to d-
"Hey mom!"
"W-What?"
I was abruptly brought out of my thoughts as Kayn called for me, and only then did I realize that I've been spacing out.
"We're here!" He said as he spread his arms out with a smug look on his face.
"You little brat." I pinched his cheek resulting in a squeak as he looked at me with confused eyes.
"W-what was that for??" He said as he vigorously rubbed his cheek.
I only smiled in response as I entered the door to my new room.
Even though the guest manor was extravagant and luxurious it was only to the common eyes. The main manor was in a whole different league and couldn't be compared to the guest manor. Just this room alone was triple the size of my previous and the decorations alone was worth an immense amount, even to nobles.
*sigh*
"That arrogant bastard really does enjoy flaunting his wealth..." I muttered underneath my breath.
"Huh, what did you say mom?" Kay asked with curious eyes.
"N-no nothing, don't worry about it." I said as I flashed him a toothy smile.
"You've had a long day, so you should head to your room and rest for tomorrow. I heard everything about the deal you and your father made, and seeing that you're fine I won't meddle. However, the moment thing goes bad you will let me know alright!? And also, I still can't believe you awakened, and as your mother I'm proud of you, but you know better than to flaunt your talent right?"
I wanted to trust him on this, but still as his mother, I couldn't help but worry. The moment someone gets a wiff of this news even war may break out. A 5 year old mage is unbelievable, and any powerhouse, regardless if it was a guild, clan, family, or even race would like to involve themselves in this matter. Some would try to rope him in to strengthen their standing and others would eliminate him afraid that he would grow up to be a threat.
I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be happy, or sad. A part of me was proud, but mostly I just wished for him to live a happy normal life, however with this world defying achievement the chances of him living without involvement in this worlds power balance was zero. Trouble was sure to come, sooner or later, but I didn't want to worry him. He had the right to be happy and never in a million years would I take it away form him, especially after hearing his following words to my scolding.
"Don't worry mother, I know to keep it a secret for now. However, I'm going to grow strong and protect you, just trust in me!" He said as he flashed me an adorably happy smile, but most noticeable of all was the light of determination and joy in his eyes and expression.
I flashed him a warm smile as I said "Okey, mommy will trust in you, but you must trust mommy as well okey?"
"Yes mom!" He said with a toothy grin as he nodded eagerly.
