In Love with the Suspect

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Aug 15, 2021

"Say that again." Chrisia was shocked."I said I'm the one who is being assigned to you," Heirra said clearly.

" Of all the officers, it had to be you," Chrisia said

Really she hates me because of the coffee? Is she serious?

"Well, you have no choice Ms. Chrisia," Heirra said, smirking.

" Well, officers, assist them on their way home and then come back. I have to explain how our jobs would be handled with this special case being handed to us." Heirra explained further.

They left and it was dead silence in Officer Heirra's car.

"So, are you giving me back my coat?" Heirra asked.

"I will after I wash it."

And then again, it was back to silence.

"Chris, you're not much of a talker are you."

"And who gave you permission to use my nickname?"

"I did and you have no choice," Heirra said while giving a smirk.

"Fine, do what you want."

"Why are you so cold? You're colder than Antarctica."

"Very funny. I just don't want to talk to someone who is stalking me non-stop."

"It's called a JOB. I have a job to do."

"Then why don't you stalk Grace then? You have a crush on her right?"

That statement made Heirra blush slightly and turn her head to the side. Good thing the stoplight has turned red.

"You're cute. I didn't expect you to be too honest. I bet you are not good at poker." Chrisia confessed as she chuckled.

Damn. That's quite a personality she has there. She even has the guts to tease an officer; moreover, a captain! Heirra thought to herself.

"You look so innocent. Don't worry I won't tell Grace." Chrisia said while putting her index finger near her lips indicating that it would be their secret.

"Here's my number." Heirra suddenly said while giving Chrisia her business card.

"Call me if something happens. I fear that you may be targeted." Heirra continued.

"In what way? And why would I be targeted?" Chrisia asked.

" I have enemies you know," Heirra replied.

"Oh really? Trust me, one of your co-workers told me that being with you is the safest." Chrisia said.

"Wait. Darwen told you?" Heirra said, feeling that she's been caught.

"Fine. You caught me but I won't tell you the reason for my actions so just take my number." Heirra said

"Want me to help you with Grace?" Chrisia asked while smirking, almost feeling happy that she knows the officer's secret.

"It looks like we're here already. See you tomorrow, Chrisia." Heirra said

"So you plan to avoid my question. That's cute." Chrisia said walking away. Unknowingly to Chrisia, Heirra's face turned red, and she didn't even notice it herself.

***

Heirra went back to her office and waited for the other officers to arrive. Meanwhile, she was lost in her thoughts figuring out who is actually a possible suspect because Chrisia definitely isn't unless she is good at acting. This made Heirra in a pitch. It seems that figuring out who the murderer is would be quite difficult. Suddenly, the door opened.

"Hey, Captain Heirra, Sergeant Darwen reporting here. I'm back." Darwen said.

"It seems like we're the only ones here. So how's Ms. Jenny? Got anything from her?" Heirra asked

"I learned that she likes accounting since she was young and that her favorite food is dumplings. She loves going on an adventure too." Darwen said happily

"I can see you guys getting close here. She asked for your number?"

"Yeah, she did," Darwen said while getting embarrassed.

"Don't tell you gave it to her."

"I did in one condition though. That is if she told me about her history with the company. Well she told me that she's been working with the company for almost three years. And that she was friends with the victim. They were close. The reason for their friendship was that Jen tried to flirt with Mark when he first worked in the company two years ago. The weird thing is, she seemed glad that an officer was watching her. " Darwen said

"So you guys close now huh."

Darwen rolled his eyes and proceeded.

"That's what I got since we arrived at the destination."

Before any of them could speak, both Blake and Redylyn arrived.

"Glad you two are back. Anything to report to me?" Heirra asked.

"Nothing much. Gwenny and I just talked about how a handful of boyfriends are. We basically hit off as friends. I did ask her about the victim, she told me that they weren't that close. She just met him because of Chrisia and Jenny. Apparently, the four suspects are really great friends, so I guess sticking with them would be easier since we'd also most-likely be together." Redylyn said.

"Good job. Looks like our job would be easier." Heirra said.

"Anything on Grace?" she asked Blake.

"She just told me how she is excited about her vacation with Chrisia, Jenny, and Gwenny. Since they are in different departments, they could take a few days off for a vacation together. I asked her about the victim, and it seemed like she also didn't know him well. She just remembered that Chrisia introduced the lad to the three of them, and only Jenny had the guts to flirt with the lad. Before we forget, Grace and Gwenny live in the same apartment just on different floors." Blake shared.

" Good information we've got here. Thank you." Heirra said.

"Let me ask one more thing. Don't you think that it seems like none of them might be the suspect?" Heirra asked the three.

"Darwen told me that Jenny used to flirt with the victim. Well, they did end up as friends and nothing more. Jenny also basically just flirted with Darwen and nothing more." Heirra said

"And for Chrisia, I actually felt that she's not the murder. I feel that it's someone else. Have you guys also noticed that they were willing to be accompanied by us? I actually think that there's a third party here. Also, did you guys think that it was weird that the company sent these ladies to us? I mean the previous investigator didn't even interview them yet. I found it quite suspicious." Heirra shared her thoughts.

"Darwen also told me that Jenny seemed glad that Darwen was watching her. The weird thing is, I experienced it with Chrisia too." Heirra said

" Captain Heirra, Grace too. She seemed relaxed. She actually fell asleep, that's why we didn't get to talk much." Blake said.

" Drop the horrific, Blake. We're a team. There's no need for that." Heirra said.

"Seriously Heirra, you're too friendly. Besides, you're also the head of the homicide team where they used to be stationed," said Darwen to Heirra.

"It's okay Blake. She's always like that." Darwen assured Blake.

Blake just nodded.

"With Gwenny too," Redylyn said.

"You think something's fishy right Captain," Blake asked.

"Yup. The company is. We need to protect those girls. I think they might be targeted by someone in the company. Someone who has a position." Heirra explained.

"Man, no wonder you were promoted right away," Daren said in awe.

"Besides, they were very close friends. She was sad about his death too. I also can't sense any guilt or secrets from her. Also, from Blake and Redylyn's report, there seems to be nothing wrong. I have two conclusions. First, either they are not involved and have any idea or they were together when they did it." Heirra continued.

Heirra proceeded to get some documents from her desk and showed the files to the other officers. By now, they were sitting on the couch. Heirra with Darwen and Blake with Redylyn. Heirra begins to share the files about the victim.

"The chief gave me the documents. I have already looked through it last night. The victim's name is Mark Haren. His only living relative died a year prior to his death. His body was found at 7:00 am on the floor. It was reported by a janitor on his way to work. Just looking at this picture taken, the way his body's placement is. Also, the investigator handling this before me told me that the victim's body was quite cold, so it is possible that the crime or suicide happened at midnight. Both the chief and the previous investigator weren't really sure if it was suicide or murder. You've all seen the video right?" Heirra asked.

"We did." Darwen said.

"The way the victim was speaking, it seemed like a murder though," Blake said.

"Blake's right but I think we're missing something," Redylyn said.

"I almost forgot. Grace told me that she thinks that the victim might be gay. Her gaydar could tell." Blake explains.

"The victim's gay?!" Darwen repeated in shock.

" No wonder Jen and him were only friends. The victim didn't respond to her flirting." Darwen continued.

"That's the part you were concerned with?" Heirra said in dismay.

"Well, this shows a lot. He might be murdered because of his sexual preference or something. The obsessed woman who can't accept that the victim's gay. He's handsome, you gotta admit. Let's just keep them in check. We'll have a meeting like this every week. You guys have already installed the app that would help you monitor their apartments on your phones right?" Heirra asked

"Yup already did."

"Done!"

"Already finished."

After the meeting finished, Blake and Redylyn left first.

"Welp, I'll leave now Heirra. See you on Monday." Darwen said.

"Oh before I forget. She asked me on a date, and it's tomorrow." Darwen continued as he left.

That Jenny girl moves fast. I can't make a move on Grace while I'm on a watch for Chrisia. Heirra thought.

Her thoughts were cut off when her phone suddenly rang. A number she didn't recognize.
