At dinner, Cohen was thinking about the experience he had that afternoon, and whether or not to tell their friends, but a new student caught their eye. His name was Lupin, and he was gorgeous. His eyes had a reddish-brown tint to them and his dark auburn hair was slicked back but slightly fluffed up, as though he had just gone on a bike ride. Cohen and Lupin shared their chemistry class, and had worked together on a few projects, but didn’t really talk outside of that. Lupin noticed Cohen’s look and decided that that was an invitation to come talk to them.
“Hey, you’re Cohen, right?” asked Lupin, “from science?”
Cohen was a bit annoyed that someone was talking to them. The audacity of men.
“Yes, that would be me, I assume you’re Lupin?” Cohen replied with a slight edge to their false politeness.
“That would be correct. I noticed that you were looking in my direction, did you want to talk?”
“my apologies, I was lost in thought and did not realize where I was looking.”
Cohen really wanted Lupin to leave. Lupin had this way of speaking that made Cohen feel as though they were supposed to talk for hours and hours on end, about anything really- books, decorative collar pins, the proper way to fold a blouse. And though the idea of having a conversation with someone over hot chocolate intrigued Cohen, why, why did it have to be with Lupin? Lupin was the one all the girls daydreamed about, he was one of the most popular people at the academy.
“I understand completely. How about a walk and you can tell me what’s on your mind?” Lupin suggested with a smile
“I would love to, but I’m still finishing my supper. Does 7 o’clock at the garden entrance work for you?” Cohen replied before taking a mouthful of pudding to subtly show that the conversation was over.
“Works perfectly. See you then.” Lupin walked away.
