Moonlight
"You sure you don't wanna come? Your aunt has been talking alot about you."
My mom and dad were going at aunt Julie's place. My mom got really pissed when I said I don't wanna go but I was glad she agreed eventually.
"I miss Aunt Julie alot but I don't really feel like going today, mom. I am sorry." I told her honestly.
"You're not sick right? You should tell us if you're before it gets too serious." She put her hand on my forehead to check if I had fever after saying that.
I groaned and said, "Mom...I am not sick. I just don't feel like doing much today. I just want to have my lazy day, that's all."
"No fever. Alright, then... Lunch is already prepared, you could have it later when you want to. Prepare some dinner for yourself after that." Mom said as she picked up her coat and bag to go.
Right then my dad came out of the room fixing his shirt and they were ready to leave.
"Give my regards to aunt Julie and tell her I miss her. Won't miss the next visit for sure." I yelled after mom and dad as they were about to get inside the car. They smiled and waved at me as a reply.
I waved at them as they left. After that, I closed the door and decided to check what was coming on TV.
After dropping myself on the couch, I turned on the TV and started going through the channels.
On one of the channels, the movie "When in Rome" was being played so I knew I had to watch that. I mean, what's not to like about Josh Duhamel? He was one of my favourite actors. I always had a huge crush on him.
Before the movie actually started, I quickly ran to the kitchen to grab my lunch. Mom had prepared a delicious meal as always and it made me only more hungry.
I was having a good time on my own as I had my lunch and watched the movie with my best interest.
I watched the movie already but I had the habit of watching the movies I liked again and again. I never really got bored. It was the same case when I read good books too.
After the movie ended, I picked up my plate and headed towards the kitchen. I washed it and placed it on the dish keeper.
I wanted to read some books so I casually walked towards my room. I felt so lazy and I hated that feeling.
As soon as I opened my bedroom door, I was too shocked that I had to scream my lungs out. The guy, I saw near the tree was now inside my room. He looked extremely horrified too with his eyes wide and his gaping mouth. But before I could say anything, I collapsed on the floor and everything turned black.
I fainted.
When I opened my eyes, I felt dizzy and blurry. When the vision was clear again, I wondered if I just had a bad dream or I really saw that boy inside my house. I slowly tried to pick myself up.
"Are you okay?" A raspy voice came from my bed.
"Oh my gosh, you...you! Okay, it's a bad dream...it's just a bad dream... Wake up, Moonlight, wakeup!" I slapped my cheeks lightly but vigorously like a maniac as I chanted the words, "Wake up" like a mantra.
"Look I don't mean to scare you. I have things to explain if you let me. I don't mean to cause any harm to you." The eerie guy got up from my bed and started walking towards me.
I felt so scared that I started dragging myself away from him.
When he got near enough to kill me, I asked automatically "What do you want from me? And how did you get in here?"
"I am surprised to be able to get in here too. I can't usually get into houses and... People usually don't see me." His words only made my head hurt more. All the weird incidents I wanted to forget came swirling in my mind.
"What do you mean?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"I so wish I had an easy way to explain it to you and not scare you..."
He took a deep breath and continued, "Touch me."
He held his hand infront of me, waiting for me to touch it.
"Excuse me." I frowned out of confusion. What was happening?
"I am asking for a handshake. My name is Josh. What's yours?"
I wondered if it was some kind of trick he was playing with me but I decided to give a handshake. He had to bend down as I was still sitting on the floor.
"I am Moonlight... What the?" My hand just felt like it passed through a wind. What was this guy? I tried again but couldn't feel his hand. It was just like I was giving a handshake in the air.
Now that started to freak me out.
"What are you? A g-ghost?" I stammered.
"I don't like to call myself a ghost yet. I am still a soul. Atleast for a month." He said it so calmly, making it hard for me to understand.
"You mean, no one else could see you but me?" I asked, going crazy literally.
"I am afraid, yes. Only you could see me." He replied.
"But why? Why me? And how is it possible?"
"I wish I had a proper answer but I don't. Well, maybe god chose you to help me. Look, Moonlight... What is happening right now is real and not a dream. I am a dead person but trust me, I am no harm to you. I am on a mission and I need a friend. You saw me." I got chills from his explanation.
"How am I supposed to help? What am I supposed to do?" It was driving me nuts.
"I could narrate you the whole story. Please listen." He said.
I just nodded as an answer.
"I wasn't dead normally... Like, I wasn't dead because it was time. I was killed.. I can't remember by who. All I know is that my spirit guide told me it wasn't time for me to leave. I still had lot more time to live. He said that my body is locked inside that house..."
He pointed towards the house opposite to ours, no wonder why it looked so weird to me. He continued. "But it isn't easy to open the door, especially me not having a body. I don't have the key either so... Moonlight, I need you to be my friend and help me find the key for that house. I only have less than month time. If I don't get inside my body within less than a month, I will never get to live again. I don't want to go. Not yet."
I couldn't say anything to him. All I could do was stare into his beautiful green eyes, they looked so alive.
"Will you please help me? Only you could help me and no one else. Others can't even see me...please." He begged and something inside me felt different.
I didn't even know what was happening but I knew I had lot more to figure out.
"Okay... I am ready to help." I blurted, I had so much fear and complexity in me but a part of me wanted to help Josh so much. It didn't feel right to not help someone who felt helpless.
As I said those words, Josh curved his lips into an emotive smile. Funny how he looked so alive even if he wasn't. Maybe that was some sort of a sign for him. Or maybe me. Or maybe us.
Just like that, he disappeared into the thin air. Leaving me in all the wonder.
