Proxima continued battling with the Lich King and she had the upper hand. She kept backing away whenever the Lich King approached and threw spears at him. He would use more and more husks to block the spears. He found out the pattern and stopped attacking.
“What? Given up already? You’re pretty weak for the King of Husks.”
“Nonsense.” The hooded figure redirected his hands from Proxima and pointed at the kroma sorcerers running down the path.
“I need to change my target.”
The husks noticed and followed his command. They began charging and shuffling down the hill to the kroma sorcerers. Proxima looked behind her in terror. When she looked back at the lich king, she saw him charge at her, getting ready to punch. His impact was cut short because both of them began to fall as the blue glyph holding them up in the air shattered. She noticed that the blue dome crumbled to dust as well. Proxima noticed this and immediately knew her sister was in danger.
“Dizonia!
She grabbed onto her tesseract and summoned a red glyph under her feet to safely fly off the ground. She summoned a red spear and pointed it at the Lich King who managed to land safely on the hand of a husk. “What did you do to my sister!” “Proxima Nexus. You have other responsibilities at the moment.” he responded as he pointed down the path onto the husks about to reach the kroma sorcerers. She let out a grunt as she flew down the path toward them. She raised her spear and zipped past a tall husk, cutting the nape of his neck in the process.
The kroma sorcerers ducked in fear and started to scream. Proxima repositioned her glyph and flew back upwards and tried to stab another one of the husks that were attacking the sorcerers but her spear was hit by the black sword.
“Tch. You pest!” She shouted. The Lich King charged down to her and began to laugh maniacally. He started to strike her and she blocked them all. She looked behind him and saw that one of the wolf husks began to approach the helpless kroma sorcerers. She flew past the lich king and broke the bones of the husk. She then felt a kick to her side as the Lich King followed her. She flew back but regained her balance and summoned a red glyph under her feet to propel her forward. She saw the kroma sorcerers just crouching and shaking in fear as the husks came closer to them.
“Don’t you have your tesseracts!?!” she screamed as she parried the black sword of the Lich King. One of the sorcerers yelled. “No we don’t! All our tesseracts have been stolen!”. Proxima grunted and the Lich King raised his sword and slammed her on the tree. She blocked the blade of the sword with the body of her spear and tried to push it away but it wouldn’t budge. She looked behind the man and saw the husks surround the kroma sorcerers. The Lich King chuckled.
“What now, Nexus?”
Immediately after he said that, a giant red glyph appeared underneath them all. Red glass spikes shot out from the ground and up. It stabbed the husks near the kroma sorcerers in the head as well as the Lich King’s head. Hyacinth appeared from the foliage and into the path and to Proxima. She reached out her hand and lifted Proxima up back to her feet.
“What should we do, Miss Proxima?” Hyacinth said.
Proxima regained her breath and leaned against Hyacinth. “He won’t die from a simple stab...I can beat him in just one blast. I just have one problem.” “Which is?” “The blast is huge. It could possibly send all the kroma sorcerers flying down the mountain but right now, they all don’t have their tesseracts.”
“Wait, how did they lose all their tesseracts?”
“You mean these?” A voice above the trees said, holding a tesseract. An orange glyph formed under them. They dodged the glyph as fire began to spew out of it.
The Lich King grabbed on the red glass spike that stabbed him and pulled his head out of it. The hooded figure on the trees jumped down to the side of the Lich King, holding a bag full of the other kroma sorcerer’s tesseracts. Proxima stood back up and stood beside Hyacinth and whispered in her ear.
“Hyacinth Myrrh. I need you to lead all the kroma sorcerers down the path to the southern entrance of Bjorn Village. I can only let out the blast when everyone is not near me. I’ll clear the path.” Hyacinth nodded when Proxima told her this and ran to the kroma sorcerers. “Everyone! Follow me!” she said as she began running down the path. Suddenly, orange glyphs with different patterns were summoned in front of them and let out a blaze of fire which combined into a thick fiery wall.
“You’re not going anywhere” The man with the sack of tesseracts said as he held up five tesseracts in between his fingers. The man quickly ran over to Hyacinth and kicked her to the side of the path. The kroma sorcerers were startled and hid in the bushes at the opposite side where Hyacinth landed. Proxima saw this and tried to charge Hyacinth's aid. She was stopped mid-way by the Lich King back on his feet and with his black sword. Hyacinth got back up her feet and summoned a red glyph on the ground.
Yoven, Persei, and Myun reached the bottom of the mountain and on the finish line. Persei managed to regain some of his strength and started to walk already. The three of them continued to run alongside the blue dome to find Dizonia. Myun’s eyes laid on something strange.
“Um, guys? What’s that?” He said, pointing at the black tendrils appearing at the bottom of the blue dome and extending upward. Not long after, the blue dome crumbled into black dust. The three of them were stunned. Persei pointed ahead.
“Look! It’s Miss Dizonia!”
The three of them ran to the woman lying on the ground. When they approached her, they saw a stab wound at the back of the woman and black ooze emanating from it. Myun reached over to Dizona’s neck to check her pulse. Yoven and Persei watched hesitantly, waiting for a sign.
“...”
“...”
“Thump.”
They all let out a sigh of relief when they heard her pulse. Yoven grabbed Dizonia and picked her up on his back. “We need to get Miss Dizonia to Bjorn Village! Let’s get back to the finish line, the southern entrance is there.”
Persei looked up and heard a crunching noise behind him. Not too long, red eyes began to fill the darkness behind them. Persei opened his eyes wide and screamed. “RUN!”
The three of them bolted out of the clearing and back into the woods. Husk monitor lizards charged after them as well. Their bony large bodies made a lot of sound when they raced toward the boys, which alerted more husks and soon enough, a small army of husks were at their tail. While they were getting chased, Hyacinth managed to land a scratch on the hooded kromagoth who was light on his feet. He jumped backwards and grabbed another tesseract from the sack. Hyacinth noticed this and quickly stood in front of a tree beside the orange glyphs that were producing the fire wall.
“Is that all you’ve got ?!?” Hyacinth said, trying to agitate the hooded man. He fell for the girl’s efforts to rile him up and summoned a green glyph on the ground in between them.
A massive green bull materialized from the glyph and was ready to charge at her. Hyacinth let out two fingers and motioned him to come at her. The hooded man extended his arm outwards and said, “Charge!”
The bull heard and began to charge straight for Hyacinth. She smirked and summoned a red glyph on the ground and leaped over the bull with a glass platform. The bull slammed his horns at the tree and managed to break it from the ground. Using her red spikes, Hyacinth made the tree topple in the direction of the orange glyphs. The tree fell on the glyphs and began to sizzle. Not too long, the tree started to burn but created an opening for the kroma sorcerers to go through above. She summoned a red glyph under the tree and red glass began to wrap around the burning tree, making a bridge of red glass.
“Go! Go! Go!” Hyacinth shouted at the kroma sorcerers hiding in the bush. They quickly got the idea and began running over the red glass bridge and back down the torch-lit path. Hyacinth looked back at her enemy and saw him about to kick her. She didn’t have enough time to react and got kicked square in the face and was sent flying over the burning tree.
She landed in front of the kroma sorcerers that ran over the bridge and began to barrel down the path. Because of its steepness, she didn’t have much to grab on to prevent her descent. The hooded kromagoth watched her disappear down the mountain and slowly turned his head back to focus on the kroma sorcerers. He grabbed more tesseracts from the sack and summoned the orange glyphs once more but this time, all around them. Proxima saw this and as her attention was averted, the Lich King managed to swiftly land a punch on her face, causing her to collapse on the ground. She tried getting back up but the Lich King placed his foot on her back which made her fall to the ground.
“Give me your tesseract, Nexus.” The raspy voiced man said.
“Or else you’ll watch your precious sorcerers burn to a crisp” the other hooded man said as he closed in the orange glyphs to the sorcerers.
Hyacinth stopped her fall when she reached the foot of the mountain. She slowly opened up her eyes and saw the lights of the southern entrance of Bjorn Village. Her vision was beginning to return but her head throbbed in pain. Her legs have been reduced to sticks on the ground, she tried to stand but all she felt was a stinging pain. She gritted her teeth through the pain and stood up slowly. She struggled to stand up and wobbled back and forth but it was too much for her. She was about to collapse to the ground but before that could happen, Myun caught her in his arms.
“Hyacinth! Your forehead is bloody! We must get back to Bjorn Village!”
His sister shuddered in his grasp and coughed. “Myun...there’s still kroma sorcerers in the path. We can't-” She coughed up more blood and gurgled.
“Leave them…”
Persei and Yoven stood behind Myun and watched as red glowing eyes started surrounding them. The skeletal monitor lizards managed to catch up to them and snarled their teeth. Husk wolves and deer came out of the shadows in between them and the southern entrance. Yoven quickly grabbed his tesseract and summoned an orange glyph on the ground and raised walls of fire as soon as the husks began to charge.
“Persei, Myun! Grab a sword!” Yoven yelled as three swords appeared from the center of the glyph. Myun put down Hyacinth for a moment and both Persei and he grabbed a sword. The skull of a deer passed through the fire wall and Persi ran to it and slashed it with the orange sword. More and more of the husks entered and Myun cut through the skulls of the wolven husks. Although they were powerful, the sheer number of the husks was too great.
Yoven’s hand began to quiver and the glyph shrank, causing the fire walls to retreat closer to them. The skulls did not retreat though and neither did the efforts of Myun and Persei to cut them down.
Persei was about to slash one of the husks but his sword fizzled out of existence. He knew Yoven wasn’t going to last forever, he was pushing himself to the brink of his abilities. He looked back at the skull of the monitor lizard and saw it open its mouth.
“GET AWAY!” He shouted as he tried kicking it. It was futile and he retreated closer in the circle. Persei had never felt so powerless in his entire life. All the people he cared about were going to die and he couldn’t do anything about it. His eyes quickly began to tear up as he began to claw his hair at the sides.
“I’m sorry, Yoven! I’m sorry, Myun! Hyacinth...mom...I couldn’t do anything useful…”
He kneeled on the ground and continued to sob as he accepted his fate. He closed his eyes in defeat and continued to scream as the husks closed in.
“We’re all going to die and it’s all me and this stupid tesseract’s fault!” He snapped his tesseract off his chest as he lifted it in the air, about to smash it on the ground. He was stopped short when Myun grabbed his wrist.
“Persei stop! That’s not helping!”
“Nothing can help us now, Myun!”
“No...no...there has to be a way”
Yoven interrupted them and said: “Think! What are the glyphs we got and what can we use?!?” Myun nodded and slashed another husk for the last time before his own sword dissipated.
“Hyacinth’s tesseract! Where is it?!?”
Myun began to inspect her body and neck but couldn’t find it anywhere. He shaked his head in frustration. “No no...It has to be here.” He double checked her body again in search of it but nothing appeared. He was instantly hit with the realization that the tesseract must be outside the orange glyph and Hyacinth dropped it when she fell.
Persei started hyper-ventilating when one of the husks approached him and he quickly kicked it in the face, only causing it to growl. Yoven stabbed it’s head with his final sword.
Persei thought about what they could do. Myun’s glyph won’t work even if he could summon a bird, he couldn’t summon multiple birds to save everyone. He was just a beginner so his animals aren’t that big. Persei scratched his head in frustration.
“NOTHING! We can’t do anything!”
Myun’s eyes lit up when he locked his gaze upon Persei’s tesseract. He saw it had 20 sides and Myun’s gears in his head started to turn. “Persei! Maybe your glyph can work!” Persei was taken aback. “How can mine help?!? I can’t even make a glyph bigger than my hand!”
“That’s exactly why! Look.”
Myun grabbed Persei’s tesseract. “Tesseracts are made of ores that produce light when touched. The glyph is etched on the surface of the sides to produce it… and since yours has 20 sides…”
“Guys! Better hurry!” Yoven yelled as he slashed another one of the husks and kicked another.
“ Hurry, Myun!”
“ Maybe the reason why your glyphs are so small is because the sides are small but numerous. My theory is that...you can summon multiple glyphs…have you tried before?”
Persei’s eyes widened as he stared back at the tesseract he was holding. It all started to make sense to Persei when he heard this. He was always told tesseracts can summon only one glyph but he always had a hard time with that.
“That’s it! Myun you’re a genius!” Myun blushed when he heard Persei say this. Persei stood up and held onto his tesseract and exerted all his effort into summoning multiple glyphs.
“That’s why it was so hard for me to summon one glyph. That’s why It took a toll on me to summon one glyph...it’s because I was putting all my energy into one!”
Persei extended his arm and his tesseract glowed in every direction. He made a small dome of 20 small glyphs.
