My knuckles turned white from how hard I was gripping the wheel.
With each turn towards her house my anxiety grew deeper.
Each curve of the road threw me towards madness, overwhelming me with anticipation.
The thought of seeing her again was dizzying.
It both enchanted me and haunted me.
With the last turn into the driveway the breaths leaving my body were close to none.
I kept my distance from Macy as we walked up the evergoing driveway.
The moments slowed.
Each step I took was a Millimeter.
As we neared the door I tried to compose myself.
My breaths flattened out as Macy reached out to knock on the door.
“Macy!” The door opened before she knocked to reveal a short lady who had a striking resemblance to Rynn.
Macy smiled and hugged her. “Ms. Kinder! It's so good to see you!” Macy seemed genuinely happy.
“Oh my, same here! I figure you're here, for Rynn,” Ms. Kinder paused, “And you must be Evilyn.” She remained friendly, so I assumed Rynn hadn't badmouthed me. I smiled on the inside.
She invited us inside, Quietly though, as Rynn was asleep on the couch. Apparently Rynn had come in the night before last, and had just said that she needed to get away. Though they had been in touch through the last weeks, so she knew about me. Hopefully without the whole hooking up in the storage room thing. She sat us down in her spacious kitchen and started preparing tea.
“So what exactly brings you two here?” She asked, handing us our tea along with milk and a sugar dish.
She sat across from us as Macy took the lead explaining how she was missing class abruptly left and how we figured she’d be here. Neglecting to mention the fact that I only knew of her abstinence because I was the professor, Instead saying I was a classmate.
Adding more milk to my tea I budded in, “We figured she came here because of her upcoming apprenticeship with her father. So she came here to unwind.”
Rynn’s mom looked at us confused, “ No, she’s always seemed ecstatic to do it. I’m not sure why she’d need to unwind before it.” She informed us.
“Everytime she mentioned it to me she seemed so distressed by it.” Macy said. I looked back into the living room to see the curves of my love’s body covered by a red blanket. The sight of her sent all the worry raking my body away. The emotions I had for her came rushing back, in a small waves. Soon all of the love, or rather lust I had felt before returned. My mind flashed back to the conversation at hand.
I turned back to find them deep in a conversation about their pasts. A conversation that very much did not include me. I excused myself and walked into the living room. I Rounded the corner to the couch and sat in the chair adjacent to her. I watched her chest rise and fall with each breath. The peacefulness that covered her face as she slept. I couldn't stop the face of sadness that covered my own as I gazed at her.
Her eyes shot open, studying her surroundings, before resting on the chair in front of her, of whom no other than myself sat in.
“Hi.” She wasn’t the least bit startled, almost as if she was expecting me.
“Hey.” I responded. All the earlier anger I had at her dissolved in our few words.
“You made it. I was starting to lose hope.” She whispered.
“30 hours is a long time.” I smiled. “We should talk.” I redirected us to business.
The gleam in her eyes disappeared As soon as the last syllable left my lips.
“Soon, I’ll give you some time.” I eased. The voice in my head rebutted, ‘She's had 5 days, how much longer could she need?’ but I walked back into the living room to retrieve my tea instead of vocalizing my thoughts.
Listing back into the conversation I could tell that they were still catching up with each other. I looked outside and It was about to be sunset. I went through the kitchen and found a door that led to the balcony, that had a perfect view of the sunset.
Ms. Kinder found me there and nodded, giving me permission to go onto it.
I smiled back and went onto the deck.
