I desended off the air tram to a new world. A city among buildings rising into the clouds. Exaggerated smell of exhaust fumes and food from every corner fill the air. The city was different from back home. It felt as though the city was alive. regardless, it would never sleep with the busy streets, people roaming everywhere coming and going. This was a new pace for me, a chance to make my dad proud. Considering I started the life of becoming a marine. I stride towards the base passing by a throng of other applicants who wished to serve just like me. Some looked excited to bring on this new chapter in their life while others cried as they embraced their families goodbye. "This is it." I thought to myself.
While looking around through the mass of people I saw a bench beside the main entrance to the base. I calmly walked over to sit down placing my bags beside me to wait to be called for line up. Then out of the midst of the sound of cars, trucks, and the crowd of people I people heard a voice. "Y.. ey.. Hey." a muffled voice calls out. I look up to see a man in full marine fatigues approach me. "Hey, your Briggs's daughter right?" He implies while staring at me with eyes as blue as the ocean but felt cold as ice. In my mind I knew he was different from the other marines greeting us. It felt as though a cloud of blooded mist surrounded him. It felt familiar, the same presence my dad gave off. He was a true marine who had lived and breathed the life of combat I thought. After a breif moment to collect my thoughts I answered. "Uh.. yes. How did you know?" He walks over with a stern look. As he slowly walks by and sits on the bench beside me. I look up to see a smile gradually form on his face. leaning towards me he lifts up his arm placing his hand on my shoulder. And with a slight chuckle he replies. "Damn, you're just as cautious as your dad. loosen up a little?" Shaking me ever so slightly. "Me and your dad were brothers in arms. He told me to watch over you whe you came to start trainging." I was stunned by the words that sprouted from his mouth. For my father there were many things and he had shared most of his stories of war with me. But never once mentioned a friend. Who's to say that he didn't have any friends though, with the many questions I had asked my father only a few wre answered. "Look if you don't trust me. I brought something to show." He reached into his left upper pocket on his shirt to pull out a folded piece of paper and handed it over to me. To my suprise it was a photo of my father with his squad smiling. As I looked closer I saw a man with the very same physique and hair cut with blue eyes as the man sitting beside me next to my father. "That was after a spec op rescue mission. we were celebrating with your dad. The same day that mission ended he found out he was going to be a father. That's the reason why he retired shortly after. To be with your mother and you when you were born. But enough small talk, looks like their about to do roll call for boarding." He said getting up from the bench now walking away towards the gates.
Soon after are talk my name was called to board. Grabbing my belongs I rushed over to line up, coming face to face with our drill sergeant nicknamed the bull. "Looks like we got some new recruits ready to protect and serve, is that right?!" Shouted sergeant bull. "Did I stutter? I said, '' Is that right?!!" He asked again. "SIR YES SIR!" everyones voice rang out in reply. Then he called our names once more in order to board the ship to take us to the training ground for the next few months, I found out that it was either mars or the moon. But it would still take us a weeks time to get to earth's solar system. So I thought to my self in the mean time I should get to know those that I would be training with.
a young girl abandoned by your mother. raised by her father. goes out to make her mark on the world. not knowing of the treachery that would befall her from those closest to her.
