12 AM, somewhere in a flat in town.
“Janeeeet~"
Charlotte took off her high heels and placed them next to the door. Her movements were a bit sloppy, she held onto the frame of the entrance door for support. “Janeeeet~ Ciiiinq~"
“Charlotte…?”
Janet placed her laptop aside as her sister came through the door.
She was much younger than Charlotte, being only 17 years old. Her hair was long and blonde, and similarly wavy like her sister’s. Since it was late at night, she wore a loose fitting shirt and a pair of shorts. “I thought you wanted to talk to your boss… Where have you been all this time?”
“Ahahah~ I was talking with my boss… I really was!” Charlotte hiccuped and giggled. “And we talked and talked and talked…”
“...” Janet got up from her seat and walked towards her. “You’re drunk.”
“Hahah… Maybe I had a drink or two too many…” Charlotte put her handbag up on a shelf. “Mr. Williams just knows so much about… Whiskey…”
“Charlie-” Janet sighed. “You’ve been drinking a lot lately. You know that’s not a healthy way of coping with your problems, right?”
“Yeah yeah~" Charlotte tumbled past her and fell onto the couch. “I know that, I know….”
“...” Janet locked the door behind her. “You have to set things right with Roy.”
“Maaahhh….” Charlotte pressed her face into a pillow on the couch, smearing her makeup all over it. “I’m the worst… I’m just the worst.”
“No, you’re not.” Janet went over to sit beside her. “You’re just doing your job.”
“Maybe I’m baaad at my job…”
Janet shook her head. “No you’re not. And I’m sure Roy didn’t mean what he said to you.”
“...” Charlotte slowly sat up. “He’s like a little brother to me… And I have wronged him so, so bad….”
Janet narrowed her eyes. “But what he said to you was also not nice. No matter what context… You just don’t yell at a friend that you hate them.”
“M-Maybe…”
“If anything, he should apologize to you.”
“What’s going on here?” Cinq came out of Charlotte’s bedroom. “Is Charlotte back?”
“Cinq-” Janet looked at the blue lizard Morpho. “Can you help me get Charlotte to her bed?”
“... Sure.” Cinq began to morph to her Pergrandis Form. She was almost too large to move in the flat in this form, but for this short time it would work. “Hold onto me, Charlotte.”
“Yeah yeah…” Charlotte carefully got up from the couch and held onto Cinq’s neck. Cinq slowly escorted her to her bedroom. She could barely squeeze her shoulders through the door frame, but somehow managed to bring Charlotte to her bed.
“Thanks, Cinq.” Janet went to the bathroom. “I’ll get you a cloth to remove your makeup, Charlotte.”
Charlotte laid on her back on the bed, blinking slowly as the ceiling seemed to be moving. “Yeah yeah…”
“You’re intoxicated.” Cinq sat down next to the bed, looking at Charlotte with her piercing yellow eyes. “Again.”
“Leave me alone, Cinq….”
“It’s been years, Charlotte. You do this every time you have emotional problems.”
“So…?”
“It’s not healthy. You should get help.”
"What do you know, you're just a lizard..." she slurred barely comprehensible.
“What??”
Janet returned with a washcloth drenched in makeup remover. “Here.” She handed it to Charlotte, who half-heartedly began to wipe her face with it.
“Janet.” Cinq looked at the blonde sister. “Help Charlotte deal with her problems, like she always did for you. I’m annoyed to see her like this. I will never reach Bestia form if she can’t even deal with herself.”
Janet swallowed hard. “Sure, Cinq. I will see what I can do.”
“Good.” Cinq morphed back into her Prior form and jumped onto the bed next to Charlotte, curling up and closing her eyes.
“Charlotte…” Janet retrieved the washcloth. “I- We can’t stand seeing you like this. Please, PLEASE make up with Roy. For your own sake.”
“...” Charlotte rolled over. “I will.”
“Good… and uhm-” Janet folded her hands. “I know this may not be the right time to talk about this but… I just wanted to tell you… I think I’m ready to go back to school.”
“... R-Really…?” Charlotte moved her head again to look at her sister.
“Y-Yeah- I’m looking for schools to apply to currently. Don’t worry- I’ll handle this myself.”
“... I love you Janet… you’re the best- hic- you’re the best sister I ever had…”
Janet smiled softly. “I’m the only sister you have. But… Thank you. You should sleep now.” Janet walked out of the room, turning off the lights as she did. “Good night, Charlie.”
And within just a few seconds, Charlotte seemed to have fallen asleep.
