It was then, as Amalia sat in silence with her thoughts, that A'ari suddenly broke the awkward quiet that had covered their camp, with a
bout of laughter. "Ah... if I knew
this place would be this quiet, I'd have brought my flute..." She said,
chuckling a bit, softly shrugging. "I mean, come on... who eats in silence? Well... besides you Scarlet, but you're weird like that... so
you don't count."
"No offense taken," Caelyn said softly, shaking her head slowly as she did so. As the exchange took place, a mildly confused look shown on Amalia's face for some time, though she shook her head a bit, lightly rubbing her arms a bit, as she scooted closer to the fire, a cold wind covering their camp at the time.
As she did, the young princess softly frowned at the two people before her. While it was true that she thought she had grown close to Caelyn over the years at the academy, she had trouble remembering the year in which the dark elf had suddenly disappeared from there. At first, she had thought it was weird since to her it seemed as if a whole year had passed by with the blink of an eye. However, over time she had come to the conclusion that some sort of falling out between them had happened, and she'd just chosen to forget it.
Letting out an exasperated sigh, she smiled softly now as she lightly stretched, still sitting near the fire as A'ari moved to grab even more food. This cause Amalia to blink in confusion, as she watched. "Um... Miss A'ari... do... Do wolf Beastmen always... eat so much?" She asked, almost bluntly as the three of them sat there around the fire, A'ari having frozen mid grabbing her fourth set of rations.
"Ah... um... well... I guess so?" A'ari soon replied awkwardly, after nervously glancing at Caelyn, almost as if the two of them were hiding something important from Amalia. Despite this, all the young princess did was nod in approval with the answer, choosing to not pry into their affairs, as they had a far more important task on hand at the time than any sort of thing they could be hiding.
Yawning slightly, Amalia shuffled a bit as she glanced between the two of them. She shuffled slightly, before shrugging softly and moving to head into the small tent that the group had set up for while they were camping in the clearing. At this, she laid down to get some rest, as they had been traveling for what felt like days. She had mentioned that she would be getting some rest to the others, but she had only gotten just a simple wave from A'ari and nothing but a grunt from Caelyn.
After this, Caelyn let out a soft sigh as she glanced out into the Crimson Forest. "I'm fine, honest." A'ari suddenly said, after a few moments of silence. "I know you're concerned Scarlet. Don't think you can hide it from me, I know that look on your face." She continued, puffing out her chest a bit as she pounded it with her fist. "I'm fine. I swear. We're lucky it's Crimson we're dealing with, this time around, and not Azure. I'll get some rest too, you can take the first watch, okay?"
At this, a frown covered Caelyn's face, though she reluctantly nodded at A'ari, waving her off as she again glanced out of the clearing. "Just, make sure to speak up if you feel anything Gold. The princess might not know your situation, but..." She began to say before A'ari waved her hand dismissively.
"I know, I know. I'll speak up before things get to that point, this time. Honest." A'ari then said, before sliding into the tent as well, thus giving Caelyn some peace and quiet as the dark elf glanced back out into the forest once again, a frown still on her face.
Slowly time passed by, as the fire for their camp was at first, tended by Caelyn as she stood to watch, and then by A'ari, who woke up first before Amalia had done so. The silence was the norm for the glade that they had camped into, despite the almost dusk-like fog that covered the Crimson Forest nearly all the time, making it seem rather dull and dreary. This meant, of course, that the group had no knowledge of how much time had actually passed, and needed to rely on their own senses to determine this.
Soon enough, however, Amalia would finally wake up as well, a soft blush on her face as she noticed the sleeping elf beside her, it has been some time since she had gotten the chance to see her friend resting, due to whatever event had made them part ways.
Lost in thought about the past, and worrying over why she couldn't remember anything to why Caelyn had suddenly disappeared, or why her family refused to acknowledge her existence. It was clear to the young princess that Caelyn did in fact exist, after all, the elf was asleep right next to her now.
However, in her bliss, a sound from outside the tent woke her up from her distraction. A strange almost bestial growling could be heard. This, caused the young Princess to become a bit worried, so taking her hand off of Caelyn's hair, she slowly moved to leave the tent, adjusting her clothes a bit as she did so, as they had become ruffled in her sleep.
Outside, she was greeted with a strange scene. The fire was only smoldering now, a sign it must have gone out recently. But, that wasn't the strangest part, as that would be the sight of A'ari. The beast woman was staring out into the forest, the visible spots of her fur, and her hair as well had grown into a more feral look, as she growled rather loudly, out into the forest. As well, her normally Auburn hair had changed hues into a more blueish silver shade, likely closer to White Gold than Silver.
Something must have startled the woman, for her to take such an aggressive stance as Amalia stood there behind her, by the tent.
