Walk down the streets of the southern city was a nice change of pace for Saul as he never did get a chance to explore the city itself. He only visit it for a brief moment a few weeks ago. The street roads were cobblestoned with oil lamppost at every street corner. Though it was still in the middle of the day so they were not lit up. They’ve been walking for a few minutes but Saul noticed that the houses along the streets look almost modern. They almost look like some of the apartment houses he would see up in the streets of modern cities. However, it was very different. The exterior was a mixture of brick and cobblestone. Though judging from how they’re arranged it seemed like part of the cobblestone wall was made like a patch job. Because it seemed like something broke through the wall but they patched it some cobblestone and cement. The interior that he could see from the outside window is decorated with woodgrain and wallpaper seem very old but they still hold their original colors quite well.
However, not all houses were occupied. Some of them are boarded up, have busted windows, no doors, or were even fenced off with a sign that reads “Not for Sale. Repairs needed” hung on the fence door. Though he could see a homeless person on the second floor of one of the abandoned houses sleeping against the wall. Even Jonna has taken notice of it as well as she looks around the neighborhood. And she thought the slums back in the Eastern City were bad enough to live it. Though they’re not the worst she has seen. She had hope that some of these houses would be more in mint condition for her to move here but seems like she would need to choose wisely before she can.
Moving away from the suburban homes, they finally made it to the central plaza of the city. The center of the plaza had a fountain was decorated with statues of griffons spitting water from their mouths with humanoid lion-like creatures at the center of the fountain’s pillar roaring along with a few minotaurs, centaurs, and even a huge number of soldiers in suits or armor raising their weapons up high as if they’ve won a major victory. Along the side of the fountain’s wall, there’s a number animal carved into. Mostly that of deer walking the grassy plains as trees are growing right behind them. Despite how vigor the fountain looks from afar, up close its show it is in need of some repairs. The paint of the statues have worn off and some of the soldiers were broken. Saul was very curious about the fountain itself and walks over from the sidewalk onto the streets and reaches the fountain where there was a big plaque mounted into the fountain. He wipes the dust and dirt off of the plaque as it read:
“South City Grand
Memorial Fountain Plaza. Dedicated to soldiers and citizens that lost their
lives in the great Civil War.”
January 3, 1496 - October 31, 1996.
Right on the day of Halloween. Saul was barely born and would be a month old on that day when the war ended.
“Saul, get your ass back here now!!” Sara yells across the street.
Saul snaps out of it and runs back towards the others as they enter a café shop. Saul thought they would be entering inside the shop but then Sara and the others were making their way toward the outdoor dining area. A waiter escorted them all towards a huge table on the far corner of the restaurant and sat down.
“Oh my god, I haven’t been back here in ages.” Sara said as she takes off her scarf.
“Indeed. How long has it been since we’ve gone out like this?” Andrea asks she too removes her scarf and hat.
“God I could barely remember.” Miyoko implied.
Saul and Jonna take their seats at the other end of the table where they seat on wooden chairs that are surprisingly comfortable.
“You guys use to come here often?” Saul asked.
“Oh yes. Back when the school was still opened we use to come here after class and unwind from the endless study sessions and boring lectures. I can not tell how many times I wanted to walk and ditch class.” Miyoko said.
“But mom and dad would have killed you if you did that again. Besides weren’t you in trouble for charming few of the boys to the work for you?” Andrea asks.
“Oh come on, what’s good is using my skills in charm class would do if I can’t use it to my own advantage.” Miyoko argues.
“Didn't some of them became a bit too erotic when you used your powers on them?” Sara asked.
While the sisters were bantering on and on about their past, Saul was left to translate what they were saying towards Jonna as she still didn’t quite understand what they were saying. However, as Saul translated what they were saying, she began to giggle about their story. How Andrea was more of the study book worm of the family, Miyoko was more laidback and didn’t care for much except for flirting around with her classmates and making herself a harem, and Sara was somewhat in the middle. Laidback whenever she’s not in the mood to study and plays hooky with her friends whenever she gets the chance or actually studies and does her work. And the more Jonna learned about them, the more she becomes slightly envious of their life. Shortly after, a waiter comes back holding out a few menus for the whole table however Sara stops him and spoke in an unfamiliar language.
“Oh chelner, vă rugăm să aduceți câteva meniuri în limba engleză și franceză, dacă puteți. Acești doi nu vorbesc limba noastră. Dacă nu este o problemă.” She said.
(Oh waiter, please bring some menus that are in English and French if you can. These two don't speak our language. If that isn't a problem that is.)
"Imediat, doamnă” he said.
(Right away, madam.)
“What language was that?” Saul asked.
“Oh, it’s Romanian. What you thought English and French were the only languages I knew how to speak?” She asked.
“Well yeah. Cause you sound like English is like your native language.” Saul commented.
“Well, when you have to do family business both in the East and Western City and in the human world you have to know multiple languages otherwise, you’d make a bad impression.” Sara implied.
The waiter comes back with menus for Saul and Jonna and refreshment drinks for everyone at the table. They opened their menus and browsed through the options. Saul could barely comprehend which one he should choose but at the same time, he can’t help but question the names of these food ideas but also the ingredients as well. One reads out as “Herexena Liver Steak”, “Ravenoid Polytree Baked”, or “Porkanic head”. Are any of these actual food and does everyone in the world actually eat them with these bizarre names? Not only that, but the menu also includes how much calories they have. 2,400 calories all the way till 9500. How can they eat this and still be fine!? If anyone from his world eats any of this, they would probably gain too much weight within a single day. Let alone trying to lose all that many calories would probably take years just to lose it. Right when he was about to ask Jonna what she’s getting she already wrote to wait on what she’s getting and what Saul was getting.
“I’ll have Polytree breast with a salad and he’ll have the medium size Herexena Steak with a side of baked potato.” She wrote.
“I’ll have the Crispy Ravenoid Wings.” Sara said.
“I’ll have medium-rare steak.” Andrea said.
“I’ll have the Polytree Breasts with alamo salad on the side.” Miyoko said.
The waiter writes down on their orders as everyone gave their menus back to the waiter as he leaves them. After a while of chattering, the waiter comes back with everyone’s order as he places them all on the table for each respective person. Saul takes a good look at the food as he actually recognizes some of them. They were the same ones he ate when he first came to this world. Well, that explains why he belched so loudly after he ate them as well. Even so, he needs to watch himself as he eats the food. He doesn’t want a repeat of last time. Everyone digs into their meals while takes little bites of his own meals. One bite and the food itself beyond delicious for words to describe.
“Man I forgot how delicious the food is here.” Saul commented as he continues eating.
“Just make sure you slow down on eating. We don’t want to have a repeat of last time.” Sara mentioned.
She had to bring up about last time. However, as Saul continues to eat his meals his stomach begins to growl and twirl inside of him. Which was sending bad signals towards him as he fear what might come next.
“Can I go to the restrooms real quick?” he asks.
“It’s inside the café.” The Sanstia sisters said in unison.
Saul pushes his chair back as he makes his way towards the restrooms inside the café. Luckily it was labeled to know where they were. Even as he entered the restroom, the restroom is very fancy, almost as if it was built for a king. But really it was a very fancy public restroom in a café. After a while of doing his business and washing his hands, and feeling relieved that he avoid a catastrophic event for his stomach, Saul returns to the outdoor dining area and towards his table. However, before he approaches, a man wearing a fancy tailcoat with two bodyguards was standing over Sara as they appear to be having an argument about something. Saul didn’t like that they had an uninvited guest at their table.
