Ashlyn stuffed her fist in her mouth as she looked around, she was in the hospital. It’s ok, its just the hospital, she’s safe. That’s right, there was a crash, Kelly and Mark were there, and the other girls. Ashlyn was sat in the boot, everything is flooding back now, its starting to make sense. She must have gotten hurt. Then she smelt it, that same smell from the back back at park view when she found her wolf, that’s how she always seemed to think of him no matter how much she told herself he’s a wild animal. Peeling back the covers she looked down at what she was wearing. Someone has clearly changed her clothes and put a splint on her wrist, she didn't dislike the pyjamas but they were unfamiliar, a perfect fit though, well done Kelly. Facing the IV pole now, Ashlyn sat on the edge of the bed contemplating getting to her feet, but she wasn’t convinced that her legs would hold her up, she felt like her body had been put through a meat grinder, she could feel all the cuts and the aching bruises everywhere. She was going to need help getting to her bags to see what had been packed for her. She looked around for a buzzer to call the nurse, she wanted to put something on, something that actually covered her up, these were fine in her room back at park view because they had a policy there that only female staff could come in between the hours when young people might be changed for bed, but she didn't know here and that was a little disconcerting.
The scent of the forest seemed to intensify as she moved, she wasn’t sure if she was getting closer to it or it was coming closer to her but she was strangely intoxicated by it. Ashlyn began urgently searching through her bedding looking for the buzzer that she knew should be there. Suddenly logic hit, she wouldn't be left unaccompanied in the hospital, someone should be with her. Everyone thought she was crazy, she couldn't be trusted around drugs and medical equipment. There should be a nurse either from park view or from the hospital itself here. Why was she alone? She squinted at the door anxiously, straining her ears for the sound of a fight or altercation that would drag her supervision away, that’s when she heard the voices outside the door, arguing in a whisper. “Let me go to her” “not like this son” “no baby, your going to scare her, she probably woke up thinking she was still at the crash site thats all” “shes scared and needs me! I can feel it” “Micah, let Dr Jenkins go in first and examine her then you can go to her” “no father, i will not!” And with that the door was pushed open violently.
Micah had dropped his mother the second he heard the scream, unfortunately, his father and beta were in the next room with the doctor and heard it too. Before he could go to Ashlyn, his Ashlyn, they were there, holding him back. He was wild with excitement, just about holding Zander back, his eyes wide, his green eye shining unearthly bright alerting the crowd that Zander was equally present right now, even if he was just a passenger for the moment. His hair was standing on end from all the hours of pacing and rubbing his hands through it. He did look rather alarming, even if he refused to admit it. There was a whispered discussion being held around him which he interrupted by heading for the door. His father stood in the way and shook his head “move, dad, I’m going to my mate. Perhaps you didn't hear that scream?”
“No son, you can’t go like that, calm yourself and your wolf first”
“Yeah man, no point scaring the poor girl any more than she needs to be eh? Come on, lets take 5 mins to walk the building and come back” Xavier suggested, the answer was a vicious sounding growl
“I need to examine her anyway, Alpha, allow me and my nurses to make her comfortable, I’m sure the conversation you need to have with her will be hard for both of you. Perhaps you could try to call Mark back? She knows him doesn’t she?” The doctor suggested. Micah cocked his head at this and seemed to be considering it for a while.
“Xavier, get Mark back now” Micah ordered as he took another step towards the door. Rowan pulled him back once more.
“Micah, we all want you to be with your mate” it was clear this wasn’t easy for Melody to say “but we also want to make this as easy as possible for both of you”
“Let me go to her”
“not like this son” Rowan answered
“no baby, your going to scare her, she probably woke up thinking she was still at the crash site thats all” Melody reasoned
“shes scared and needs me! I can feel it”
“Micah, let Dr Jenkins go in first and examine her then you can go to her”
“no father, I will not!” And with that Micah broke his fathers grip on his arm and rushed the door, pushing it wide and entering. He sighed in relief to see Ashlyn still on the bed and not hurting too much or in the grip of some terrifying flash back. He slammed the door shut in the face of the entourage who were attempting to follow him into the room, though he knew they wouldn't go far and their number would only grow. “Ashlyn….my mate…. Your awake at last… baby you have no idea how worried I have been about you… how do you feel? I’m sorry about your clothes, we had to cut them off to get you into a gown and then the nurses thought you’d be more comfortable in some proper pyjamas so they changed you once they had cleaned you up a bit… sorry… I really should let you talk shouldn’t I?” Micah rambled, he was nervous to meet his mate at last. He had slowly come to her side as he spoke and crouched down next to her. He did have some manners and he would do his best not to man handle her until she was ready, part of that was not assuming it was ok to sit on the bed. But it was hard not to touch her, he could feel flashes of her emotions through their bond, it had strengthened for him in the time he had spent holding her while she was unconscious.
Ashlyn watched the man walk in. He looked to be in his late teens or early twenties. He was easily 6 foot tall, if not over, with messy blonde hair stuck up at odd angles like he had been running his hands through it for days, it looked like it would fall almost to his shoulders when it was straight though. He had one green eye and one grey, the green eye was glowing strangely. A straight nose and full lips. He was clearly a guy who worked out if the way his t-shirt was clinging to his body was anything to go by. He had strong, muscular arms, not huge like insane body builders but just the right size, and Ashlyn would bet her sketch pad that he had at the very least a 6 pack. The man, who was now finished speaking and crouched at her side, looked reminiscent of Jace Wayland / Herondale from the mortal instruments series, both the book version and the actor from the series “shadowhunters”, Ashlyn couldn't ever remember feeling attracted to a male before, or anyone for that matter, but this is what they described in the books isn’t it? She couldn't seem to think straight when faced with him, her attention was taken up by just looking at him, he smelt amazing, that wet forest, booky smell seemed to be around him for some reason and Ashlyn felt calmer with him around. Unfortunately, as she calmed down, reason and logic began to work once more. “You hit Mark!” She accused. Shuffling painfully away from him, her eyes widened once more, “I saw it, when I touched his shoulder…. You hit him…. You had a wolf hovering over your chest…. It looked like the wolf from the fence…. Where’s Kelly? Or Jackie? Or whoever they sent to watch me?” She demanded, half whispered. Her voice croaky and hoarse from lack of use and a severely dry throat. Her confusion was clear to Micah through their bond even if she hid it well outwardly.
Micah was confused as hell, how could she know about him hitting Mark? What did she mean she saw it? He ran his fingers through his hair again, messing it up even more. He growled quietly to himself as he pushed to his feet. He went back to the door and stuck his head out “water” he demanded of no one in particular but knowing someone would comply, if only to get someone else in the room. He could throw them out easily enough if his mate didn't want them though. Turning back to Ashlyn, his eyes fixed on her gorgeous hair, he so wanted to touch her but somehow he didn’t think that she would let him right now.
