She fell onto the couch, shoving the bags to the side, and sighed.
What was that like? Being in love? Sakura had known for quite some time that she was asexual, but that didn’t necessarily mean she was aromantic. She just didn’t prioritize seeking out someone else and certainly didn’t need anything intimate with another person. She’d joke that Saku had enough sex for the two of them, but honestly, she just didn’t need it like he did. But sharing time with someone that was special; someone that held feelings for her... What was that like?
And most importantly, was that something she even wanted?
She rubbed her face. This was stupid. She had far more important things to worry about. Like the next line of code for her research project, or the upcoming exam in her advanced AI programming course. But, rather than getting up to grab her laptop and start working, she just closed her eyes.
These stupid, fluffy thoughts were all his fault. Just one more reason to hate Yamada Tamaki.
“Idiot,” she muttered under her breath.
“Rude, I was coming to tell you dinner is ready. But if you don’t want any, I’ll send your half home with Suzu-kun.”
Sakura cracked open her eye to see Saku standing over her, his hands on his hips.
“Sorry, for once I’m not talking about you.”
“I’m both insulted and yet intrigued at the same time. Come share at the dinner table.”
He turned and went to the table where Suzu sat, eagerly staring at the meal set in front of him. Saku kissed his cheek before sitting beside him as they waited for Sakura to join them.
It didn’t take too long before Sakura was retelling the chaos from her morning. Saku laughed, being merciless with his teasing.
“Oh my god, did he seriously refer to you as a maiden? Holy fuck, that’s hilarious!”
“Shut up! I am a maiden!”
Saku snorted, sipping at his wine, “Maybe in references as the virgin maiden.”
Sakura’s face went red with embarrassment. While it was true she still had her virginity intact, she never appreciated the way Saku would point that fact out. She felt judged and while she knew Saku didn’t mean anything inherently malicious by it, it still hurt a bit.
“Saku, that’s rude,” Suzu said, glancing at his boyfriend with a look.
Saku just rolled his eyes, “Oh please, she knows I’m just teasing her. So tell me, was he hot?”
“You sound exactly like Aya. According to her, he has a very good hot to crazy ratio.”
“Ohh, color me intrigued then. Show your beloved brother a picture!”
Sakura pulled out her phone, swiping to the image she’d shown Aya and slid the phone across the table. Saku picked it up and made a pleased hum.
“Yes, he definitely does. I mean, assuming his crazy and weirdness was at a max with you today. If he like, larps or something, he may need to be like 20% hotter to get away with it all. What do you think, babe?”
He held the phone in front of Suzu’s face, which seemed to make the other a bit uncomfortable. Then again, Suzu rarely ever got involved in the twins’ discussions. Not that he wasn’t more than welcomed to, but Sakura was pretty sure he was still trying to figure out his place between the two of them. Which, fair, Sakura and Saku were as close as could be, and Suzu had no idea the things they’d done for each other.
“I, er, I would say he’s fairly attractive?”
Suzu immediately looked to Saku, as if trying to figure out if he had said the right thing.
Poor Suzu, Sakura thought. He was probably afraid this was some sort of trap question. Considering how jealous her brother could get, that was a fair fear.
Lucky for him, Saku just nodded, sliding the phone back towards Sakura, and Suzu immediately went back to eating. Probably praying he wouldn’t have to get dragged into any more of this discussion.
“I feel like you should give him another chance. You know, if you happen to see him again.”
“Hard pass,” Sakura said before slurping up a noodle, “I’ve got enough disasters in my life—you being one of them—I don’t need to add in a new one.”
She didn’t have to look up to know Saku was sticking his tongue out. That of course led to the two making rude gestures to one another until a new topic came up.
“Don’t you have a shift tonight?”
Saku shrugged, poking at his dinner with his chopsticks. He was most likely thinking of everything he was going to change about this dish. Sakura wasn’t sure what all he would do to improve it, she found it delicious—though it could use way more spice. She noticed Suzu stiffen up at the mention of Saku’s job. Which was an appropriate response, given what her brother did.
“It’s not until 9 tonight. I’m just working the floor since I’ve stopped taking new clients and appointments.”
“So you won’t be home until way late?”
He nodded, taking a bite of food, his brows furrowing as he chewed. Yup, he was definitely in chef mode.
“Don’t worry, I’ll have your bento ready before I leave. I’m also making one for Hina-chan, so please be sure to take it to him.”
She nodded, finishing her food.
“Cool, I’m going to go work on my code then. Dinner was great as usual,” she said as she got up to rinse off her dishes.
“Obviously, I’m a culinary mastermind.”
“You are,” Suzu responded for her, leaning over to kiss her twin.
So god damned affectionate.
