The rain fell hard on the busy street. The crowd walked by too preoccupied by their own business to mind the boy standing in the rain wearing only a T-shirt and shorts, and the beautiful woman crouching in front of him. The rain fell in heavy drops and landed on the boy's bright red hair, some of them continued their journey and hit the pavement, others simply went as far as his shirt, while still some mixed with the boy's tears. The woman was like a mirror of the boy , long red hair, grey stormy eyes and a muscular frame. But where the boy was crying, the woman was smiling , but they both had something in common. They were scared, The boy scared of being left alone . And the woman scared of leaving the boy, scared of the choices she had to make, and scared of the choices she was yet to make, because nothing was scarier than the future and this boy's future was very scary.
The boy saw the woman's mouth move but he couldn't hear her voice over the voices in his head. The voices telling him to grab onto her dress and beg her not to leave her. The voices asking what he had done wrong. The woman Stood up and walked away. She stopped and smiled one last time, and suddenly the boy realized that she was crying too.
The boy stood there a long time hoping against all odds that she would come back, how long he stood there he couldn't have said ,minutes turned to hours. Soon a patrol car drove up to him and the boy found himself in a police station, there were many of blanks in the boys memories that day and how he got there was one of them. A blonde man sat in front of him and asked him a lot of stupid Questions 'did he have his parents name or number?', what use was that when she had left him. He wanted to laugh, he also wanted to cry but the boy was not dumb, he knew it wouldn't help him. Instead he looked at the woman beside him , she was fussing with a temperature and complaining of how hot his body was.
Was he alright?, Was he feeling pain anywhere?
Yes his chest hurt. It hurt so much, but he knew they couldn't give him the cure he needed. He looked at the woman and Said.
"My body's always hot".
The police officer looked at the boy again and asked him what his name was
The boy's chest seized up, because to call his name was to call his mother's name, but the boy was strong
"Jason, Jason pierce".
He was Taken to an orphanage, a rowdy place where kids wore uniforms and went to mass a lot. He stayed there for 18 months .
It was the longest he ever stayed in any foster home.
