As soon as I opened my eyes, I looked under the bed to find not a little boy, but a little flower. “Is that a-'' I heard my bedroom door open and I fell off my bed in surprise.
“Good morning princess, sleep well?” I heard my father’s voice say. I snapped my head up to see his bemused expression from my being on the floor. He chuckled lightly. “You okay?”
As he walked over to help me up off the floor, I looked up at him and smiled. “Yeah, I’m okay, Daddy.”
“Breakfast is ready, are you coming down?” he asked as he left my room. I nodded at him, and he nodded back.
As he exited my room, he looked back at me and said, “Can I ask why you were on the floor, Lex?”
Oh man. I couldn’t tell him about the boy, cuz then he’d kill us both, so I made up a lie as fast as I could. “I fell asleep funny, then fell off the bed, that’s all.”
I smiled innocently at him until he gave up and closed the door. I sighed deeply in relief as I heard his footsteps retreating down the stairs and into the kitchen. As I was about to go downstairs to eat breakfast before school, I looked under the bed one last time, to see if he showed up again at night. I got a better look at the flower the boy had placed under my bed, and saw that it’s wilted. I wonder where he went last night..
“Alexia!” my mother calls from the kitchen.
“Oh! Breakfast!” I mumble to myself as I stumble onto my feet and call out “Coming mother!”
I run down the steps and almost slip on the bottom step because I’m goin a bit too fast. My father comes up to me and catches me at the last second.
“Careful there hon you might fall if you’re going fast as a cheetah,” He chuckles at his own joke and helps me get back on my feet “anyways you ok?” He asks still with a smile on his face.
“Yes daddy, I’m ok.” We both giggle.
“Ok well go and get your breakfast now your mother is waiting, and your breakfast is getting cold.”
I nod my head as I walk towards the decent smell of some blueberry waffles and maple syrup. I enter the kitchen to find my mother, still in her nightgown, and making coffee. I glance over at the clock on the stove that reads: 7:12 AM.
“Mommy,” I say, “shouldn’t you be getting ready to drop me off for school?”
She turns her head slightly towards me and in a low, weak voice, says
“No sweety, I’m not feeling too well today.” She turns back to the coffee pot and takes her cup and fills it up. I watch as she walks to the couch and sits down.
“Who’s gonna take me to school mommy?” I ask
I wait for an answer as she sits and drinks.
Finally, I hear her speak up, “Daddy is, Lex,” I give out a sigh. “go, hurry up and get dressed if you’re done eating.”
“Yes, ma’am.” I finish up eating my waffles and head back up the stairs to my room. I walked into a very odd surprise. The boy who was under my bed was there, in my room! I step into my room as quietly as possible, but not quite enough. His little ears pricked up and I took a step. He snaps his head to look at me and gives me a stone cold stare…
