Worried, he took out the key. He always has it with him.
“Bahle?” He barged in. “Bahle!” He rushed to her side when he saw her on the kitchen floor, surrounded by the broken pieces of her plate and some unfinished food.
He ran to her side as tears rolled down his cheeks. What was happening? Why was she like that? She was unconscious and no matter how many times he called out to her and held on to her, she did not wake up.
“Bahle…”

Trevor held onto Sobahle’s hand, staring at her unconscious form. Tests were still being run to determine what was wrong with her. The doctor said it would only take a few minutes. Trevor bowed his head, realising how cold her hand was.
“Bahle wam,” My Bahle. He held back the oncoming tears. “I’m sorry I left you like that. I’m…sorry. Please stay strong.”
The doctor walked in and he quickly stood up. “Is she okay?”
The doctor sadly smiled at him. “It’s nothing serious, Mr Nkomo. She’s just anaemic. Has she been under a lot of stress lately?”
“She was just promoted at work. Also, she found out that she was pregnant.”
“Pregnant?” The doctor raised his brows and Trevor nodded. “She’s not pregnant.”
“She’s not?” The doctor shook his head. “But she said her period was late.”
“It was most likely due to the stress that she was having. Stress can alter the menstrual cycle, as well as show other symptoms that could be mistaken for pregnancy. Her blood levels are also very low right now because of the stress. We’ll give her some vitamins that will help with the anaemia and also her blood levels.”
“Are you saying she is not pregnant?” After all that he said to her. After making her so upset, she turned out to not even be pregnant.
“Undoubtedly so. I’m sorry if this came as a disappointment.”
After explaining more of her symptoms, the doctor left the couple alone.
Trevor slowly turned to his girlfriend. He was the reason her stress levels went even higher than before. If he just supported her, she would have been reassured and happier. She wouldn’t need to have gone through such a painful weekend all alone.
He wiped away the falling tears. She couldn’t wake up to see him crying. How could she be reassured when the man who broke her heart was crying?
“Trevor.” Her soft voice got him out of his daze. He looked down at her. Her eyes seemed heavier as if she wanted to sleep more. Her blinking was also slow.
“You’re awake.” He walked towards her. “How are you feeling?”
She did not answer but looked around the hospital room. She looked back at him. “Where am I?”
“You’re in the hospital,” he calmly said. He sat down next to her.
“Hospital?” She seemed too drugged to comprehend what was happening. “Why… What am I doing there?”
“You passed out. The doctor said it’s because of stress.”
“Okay.” She looked back up and shut her eyes as if falling into a slow sleep. “And you, Trev? I thought you left.”
“I came back…” He said. “I was wrong to leave you like that. I was wrong in general.”
She softly scoffed, her eyes still closed. “I’m tired.”
“Rest up.” She deserved it. Trevor caressed her cheek, sadly smiling at her sleeping form. She should rest up so that she can be healthy again.
From that moment on he will be better. He’ll work on handling his own stress better so hopefully, when Sobahle regains full consciousness she will be able to forgive him and all his wrongdoings. Hopefully, she won’t be disappointed about the baby not being there.
