Maybe they're multiples; maybe Black's a person with Dissociative Identity Disorder. It would explain the forgotten periods of his life, it would explain Black and White doing the things he doesn't feel like doing, it would explain why they see each other as their polar opposites, and it would explain why anyone who married White would have to accept a life with both of them.
