The light cackling of the pest’s arms brings it cautiously to the small lump of day old cheese. It’s senses are strong, picking up on it throughout the cabin. It spent days lurking in every room for something of its size to carry back. Long feelers probe closer. Mia jerks up from her slumber in a gasp, coming face to face with the frightened pest. She feels around for her pistol, never breaking eye contact. The large formicidae shifts its posture to defense. Several light drips of sweat pour down Mia’s eyebrow, never flinching when it falls in her eye. Her fingers graze against her helmet, centimeters from her weapon. Both heart beats are going in rhythm. A light bubbly foam starts surfacing from the emmet’s two pointed teeth as they open from side to side. An ice cold shiver crawls up each bone of her vertebrae.
Gripping the handle to the silver piece.
The hairy feelers fold back.
Light breaths shiver through her chapped lips. Listening to every sound with intense focus.
The insecta starts at her. Mia’s clenched fist becomes a blur. She fires. The creature's head morphs into a wad of green and white slime that blasts her face. Spitting away anything that dares to fall in her mouth in a disgusting spread shot. Holding her breath, and trying not to vomit. She runs her hands through her hair, and down her face wiping it clear from all contact. She squirms on the floor. Suddenly, a familiar sound. Following her ears to a large doorway that seems placed in the center of the cabin. Looking up, she can hear it, but not see it. Switching her jetpack on and catapulting her to the top of a large white marble scene. She almost slips down where the white surface dips towards a hole to nowhere. She notices drops of water from a large silver faucet. Snickering to herself, Mia slides down, stopping short by the hole at the right moment. Looking up, she reaches out as a big fast falling drop of water splashes onto her hand. She runs her wet hands through her face and hair. More drops surprise her as she cleans off.
“Thank you.” She smiles.
A warm memory flows in her like a stream of hugs. Cheering and laughing as she dived down into the sprawling body of clear blue water. How her heart skipped a beat when in the air. Waiting in anticipation for the rocking waves to come closer. A final drop of water gushes on her face, knocking her down. She looks up in agitation.
“Thank you!...”
She lands back towards the cheese. Her stomach growls like a whimpering child. One piece of cheese left. Mia squats down, picking at the block very delicately. Her eyes closed as she breathed heavily, taking in every single bite. Letting it sit in her mouth so her taste buds can appreciate her catch. It's when she swallows, and opens her eyes does something feel off. Slowly standing up and locking her helmet in place. The heat of her charging pistol amplifies. A loud frustrated blow of air leaves Mia uneased. Turning slowly her blue eyes dilate as she looks up at a large grey mass of fur and big black eyes with frantic ticks behind them. Whiskers protruded like spikes from its snout, and two sharp teeth unable to be confined by it’s lower jaw. It bellows loudly. Mia’s heart quickens to almost complete panic. Bringing her hands together, she aims at the huge round eared mammal, ready to fire. Sharp pink hands swat at her. Mia is sent flying high when her jetpack turns on unexpectedly. The poor girl hits the wood floor hard. Sparks fly out of the silver contraption that hangs heavy on her back. Pulling herself together, she makes a run for it. Telling herself not to look back, as the giant shiner closes in fast. Mia turns quickly enough in time to blast a few shots, blinding it in one eye. IT screeches loudly, fumbling to its side. The girl takes this time to hide behind a large wooden tower. Pulling the two thrusters off each side, Mia acts as quickly as possible. They clang onto two silver magnets that have been placed strategically on the ankles of her boots. The jetpack is hoisted off as she crouches down, pulling it open. Mia pulls out a small plastic tank deep in the center of the pack, half filled with fuel. Two red wires lay connected to the tank. They snap into each thruster, while the tank is attached to her hip.
Back to her feet, she kicks her heels to the floor, as her boots send her several feet in the air, catching the rodent’s attention. She twists and turns, maneuvering herself in the air. Meanwhile the large grey aberration is gaining up on her. Mia bends foward in the air, pushing her feet ahead, and twists. Straightened out and zooming like a bullet towards the creature. Blasting shot after shot, shattering IT’s nose and teeth to bloody pulps that pollute the air. As IT ducks its head in pain, Mia reaches out, sucsesfully gripping the nape. grabs a hold of the nape. She plants herself firmly atop the squeaking behemoth. Light flickering jolts from her thrusters before silencing. Rustling its head back and forth, trying to shake the intruder from its perch. Pressing the edge of the pistol to the squeaker’s head, Mia closes her eyes tightly, and squeezes the trigger. The sound echos painfully through her ears shaking her balance. For the squeeker, it could not have been more quiet. The carcass falls over loudly. Mia slides down. She takes a long deep breath in relief. Her heart rate has slows. She laughs out loud to herself while leaning down against the wet hairs. A large black globe slips out of its socket in a long slimy trail of blood against the bridge and bone, revealed now from the lack of flesh coving the face. The victor leans her head back and sighs.
