A few days had passed since the eventful evening with Leo’s family. Elliot had woken up that morning to find no one in sight, he simply slipped out of the house and walked his way to work that morning. He hasn't spoken a word to Leo since. He wasn’t sure if he himself had done something wrong or if Leo’s family had told him to keep his distance. He would even stay out a little later when the night would begin slipping over the sky, and still Leo was a no-show. Was Leo not watching over him anymore? He wouldn’t blame the guy, Elliot felt as if he had caused enough problems for the poor vampire already.
Gale had asked him so many questions when he arrived home his first night back. But Elliot simply shrugged the man off. He wasn't in the mood to elaborate on his new friend.
And again today when Elliot had arrived home at noon from one of his early shifts, Gale continued to pester him.
“Why can’t I know anything about the guy?” Gale seemed upset, he was throwing on a jacket and getting ready for a date he had, checking himself in the mirror even though he clearly didn’t need to. Elliot always thought Gale looked good, even back in highschool when he would wake up the morning after a party with a hangover, spilled beer on his shirt and bed head- he still seemed to pull it off somehow. Gale was blessed with golden brown hair, blue eyes, and a nice body. He worked out as well which only bonuses his looks.
“Because he doesn’t want to be known right now, jeez dad, mind laying off?” Elliot pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. He always appreciated how the other man cared for him, but damn it he was an adult and deserved to have some of his life to himself.
Gale smirked, “Call me daddy again and I might.”
Elliot playfully punched his arm trying his damndest to hide the blush creeping onto his face, “Shut up, I said dad not daddy, now leave before you’re late.”
Gale sighed dramatically, “Fine, enjoy having the apartment to yourself for the night.”
Gale grabbed his keys and looked back one more time at Elliot before closing the door behind him. And then finally Elliot was alone. He went to his room and grabbed the romantic erototica novel that he received from the bookstore a few days ago and fell back comfortably onto his bed. He flipped to the first page and began his imaginative journey through Blood and Roses. He became obsessed with it immediately. It was cheesy and had a ridiculous plot but the romance between the maiden and the sexy vampire had him hook-line-and-sinker. In fact he was so immersed in the novel that hours had passed by. It was night now and only when Elliot got up to grab a glass of water did he really notice how late it was getting.
“Well shit,” he sighed as he lay back on the bed. One more chapter couldn’t hurt, right?
One more chapter turned into three then five and now Elliot was on to the juicy scenes. This was the real reason he picked these types of novels. Sure it was straight people but he could always imagine otherwise. He couldn’t help but think of Leo… afterall the vampire was pretty attractive and had saved Elliot's life. But that was creepy to think of him sexually, right? Even so, Elliot couldn’t stop seeing them together. It was dark out and almost all of the lights in the apartment were turned off, setting the mood for him. He lay back deeper into the bed and lowered his book and set it on the table next to him.
Just as he was about to reach down and caress himself, a draft of cool wind came from his open window. Suddenly he saw a dark figure standing in the far corner of the room. He instantly shot up from his relaxed state and stiffened. There stood Leo with his hood pulled over his head and a panicked expression on his face.
“What the hell dude!” Elliot said furiously.
“I’m… I’m sorry, I just really need to talk to you!” Leo stuttered. He seemed flustered and scared, which was really putting Elliot on edge.
Elliot sighed trying to calm himself, “Fine, just don’t barge into my room without knocking on the window first at least!”
“Got it,” He pulled down his hood showing off his messy black hair.
They stand there for a few minutes awkwardly. Leo had his hands in his pockets, nervously shifting them around, avoiding eye contact with the human. Elliot notices that the vampire's eyes slightly gazed over the novel that lay on his end table.
A blush had formed on the human’s face, “So?” Elliot asked, trying to get him to look anywhere else but there.
Leo’s eyes finally shift to look up at him. “Oh sorry, I just um.” Leo was clearly having trouble spitting out whatever it was he needed to say.
They lock eyes for a moment as Leo finally pushes out the words he needed to say, “How do you feel about court?”
What kind of question is that?
“Court? As in the place where people go on trial?” Elliot asks, confused.
“Yes.” Leo states plainly.
Elliot just shrugs his shoulders, “Uh I don’t know, that's a weird question.”
Leo shifts uncomfortably, “Well we have our own court for vampires and they have Cash in custody, but they won’t keep him there for long unless someone testifies against him.”
Oh god. Just when Elliot thought he was getting a break from vampires here he was needing to interact with them once again.
Elliot was baffled, there was a court for vampires which means they had their own laws and everything. That’s so strange, how did he not know any of this? He sat back on his bed feeling defeated. “Jesus, when?”
"Not for a few weeks but still, I just wanted to see if you’d actually come and testify.” Leo looked like he was pleading, maybe he needed Cash to be put away just as badly as Elliot did. Damn it, now that means I have to. If this was the one thing the human could do for his savior then he was going to do it.
“Okay, will I be safe?”
Leo seemed to think on that question a little harder than Elliot liked, “Yes, you should be.”
Should and will have two different meanings. Elliot wasn’t sure if he felt very comfortable with that response. In fact that response wasn’t reassuring at all to him. But as long as Leo would be there he felt as if he’d be more at ease.
“Then yes.”
Leo seemed relieved by Elliot’s response. His shoulders slouched more and his body looked less tense. He ran his fingers through his dark hair and sighed.
“Thanks.” Leo smiled and his dimples were once again resting on his face making Elliot feel all kinds of ways. Especially since he was just thinking of Leo in such a different way just a few minutes ago.
“So, what’re you reading?” Leo looked back over at the book resting on the end table.
Elliot immediately scrambled, flustered, trying to grab the book and shove it underneath his pillow. “Oh- uh nothing, just a stupid romance novel.”
Leo’s smile was now a sly grin. “About vampires?”
“What are you going to judge me or something? You don’t read books that have humans in them then?” Elliot was just pulling shit out of his ass at this point, feeling embarrassed by being caught and called out.
Leo couldn’t help but burst out laughing, “Almost all the books I’ve read were written by humans.”
Elliot sunk deeper into his mattress, now leaning back on the wall it was pushed against. He nervously laughed, “Fair enough.”
Leo eyed him suspiciously. “Any sort of reason you picked that book?”
Elliot was nervous but careful about what he said next, “No, just wanted something different for once. I’ve never read any books that had vampires in it.”
Leo sighed, “Well they’re always wrong about everything.”
“Oh,” Elliot grabbed the book and looked down at it curiously then looked at Leo who was staring intensely at the human.
“But if you’re really curious I could always teach you some things.” Leo walked closer to his bed, just enough to be next to the end table. Elliot wasn’t sure what it was but the tone Leo used sent shivers down his spine, and not in a bad way.
Suddenly the front door could be heard being opened and before either of the two really had time to react Elliot's door was also flung open. Both men looked at the sudden intruder, Leo was slightly on guard while Elliot just seemed startled. The light flipped on and there stood Gale towering in the doorway looking confused.
He looked back between the two, “I… oh sorry did I interrupt something?”
Well this is awkward…
