The two queens were upstairs quickly. Jackie got between them and Kimi, trying to explain to them who the girl sitting on her bed was, and how they believed she got there.
“Her name is Kimi? And she got here by involuntary teleportation? Jackie, that makes very little sense.” the taller of the two mothers said, blonde hair tied up in a bun above her head, blue eyes showing confusion.
“Can we meet her?” The chin-length brown-haired mother asked.
Jackie nodded, moving to the side. Kimi sat politely on Jackie’s bed.
“H-hi. I’m uhm… Kimi.”
“The brown-haired queen hurried over to Kimi’s side as soon as she saw the bandages. She gently placed her hand on the bandages. “Are you alright?”
“I have a headache and I can hardly stand on my own.”
“She was laying on my floor. I pulled her up and put her on my bed.”
“That was nice of you, sweet-pea,” the brown-haired mother said, “I’m Maxine, and that’s my wife, Sophie.”
Sophie walked over to Kimi and scooped her up into her arms.
“Ah!”
“Honey! Don’t do that without telling them first! I’m so sorry Kimi.”
“It’s alright. I’m not used to being picked up,” Kimi said.
“I’m gonna bring you downstairs,” Sophie spoke bluntly, though it put Kimi at ease.
“Okay.”
The four went downstairs, Kimi clutched in Sophie’s arms and Jackie holding her mama’s hand.
“Mama, she said Juno was gonna take her to see us.”
“We’ll have to call them over, so they know Kimi’s okay.”
Sophie placed Kimi down on a small sofa. “Rest,” she said.
“Allison?” Maxine spoke to the knight in the corner, “Go to Dr. Kiran, tell them that we have a patient of theirs.”
“Yes, my Lady!” the young knight sprung into action, darting out of the corner and through the door.
“It’ll be about an hour until they get here. Tell us about yourself, what happened when you came here, where did that injury come from, do I need to end a life for it, standard things like that.” Maxine sat next to Kimi.
“My name’s Kimialva Weatherbane, I first came to this place via I don’t know. When I got to the palace I was taking a nap because I was exhausted. Both times I’ve been unconscious, I guess?”
“Interesting. Who gave you the injury?”
“It was my Father-” she cut off, tears seeping down her face, “H-He t-t-thought I was w-worthl-less, b-bec-ause I c-couldn’t use any m-magic!”
“Oh, honey… Sophie, Jack, why don’t you two go upstairs? Let me comfort her,” Maxine said, pulling the sobbing child closer to her chest.
“Alright, dear. C’mon Jackie.”
“Kimi, dear, look at me. I can’t use magic. My wife can, my child can. Am I worthless?”
Kimi shook her head.
“No? And neither is anyone else without magic. But I’ve never seen a magicless person teleport. Not at all. So you’re either rather important to someone who has magic or, you have magic.”
“O-okay…”
“Feeling any better?”
“Mhm…”
“Do you want some tea?”
“Y-yes please…”
“Alright. I’ll go ask a maid to get you and me some. I’ll be right back.”
Kimi sighed. The past few days had been hard. She wanted to go home but didn’t want to see her father. She wanted to sleep, to rest but feared she might teleport away once more, and she might get stuck with someone, something, less forgiving.
“Hey. You okay? You’re zoning out.”
“Huh? Y-yeah, yeah I’m fine. I’m fine, Your Highness.”
“Just call me Maxine.”
“O-okay, Maxine.”
“Whatcha thinkin’ about?”
“I’m just worrying.”
“That’s my job! You go enjoy your existence. Let me have your worries. Lay it on me, kid!”
“I’m so tired, but I can’t go to sleep because I don’t know if I’ll teleport again and I don’t know where I’ll end up if I do!”
“That must be difficult. But don’t fear, we can find you if you disappear again. So rest, I’ll hold on to you, I know my way around the woods, I practically lived there! So don’t worry.”
“Okay…”
And she fell asleep in the holds of a foreign queen, far away from what she once knew as home, but she felt at peace. She knew the kind person who bandaged her wounds was coming to see her once more, and the Queens and their child seemed so kind and sweet. She knew no harm would come to her here.
