Heejin sat on her own bed, staring into empty space.
She looked down at her hand. Yesterday night, San oppa did something to it.
She looked outside the window. It was locked and covered, as usual. Bookshelves stood on the either side of it, and her wardrobe directly opposite her.
Heejin had never stepped outside for once in her life. Her oppas have teached her everything: from reading, writing, cooking, gaming-
And all of them made her keep secrets.
San isn't the only one who made her do that. Yunho oppa did it too.
Seonghwa oppa made her promise not to tell anyone he kisses her. So did Jongho and Wooyoung oppa.
Knock. Knock.
"Heejinie? "
Someone peered in. Heejin turned. "Yeosang oppa? "
"Can I come in? "
"Yeah. "
Yeosang closed the door behind him. Heejin was still wearing his shirt, her hair falling over her face. He spotted the plushie in her hands and raised a brow. "What's Shiber doing here? "
"San oppa lent him to me. " Heejin replied. Yeosang sat on the chair directly opposite Heejin, smiling at her.
"Your birthday is in three days. Any early wishes? " He asked, reaching for her hand. Heejin took it, her eyes on Yeosang's fingers.
"Oppa, can I go out? "
Yeosang momentarily stiffened. "What? "
"Just one day! No, one hour! " Heejin said, grabbing Yeosang's hand in both her own. "Please? "
"No. " Yeosang shook his head. Heejin pouted. "Why can't I go out? "
"It's too dangerous for you to. " Yeosang moved away from Heejin, looking away from her
His voice was monotoned, a ominous sign. "You can't go out. "
Heejin could sense that Yeosang was really angry. She immediately hug him, trying to coax him. "Sorry, oppa. I won't go out. Don't be mad with me. " She said in a small voice.
Yeosang paused and sighed, putting his arms around her. He buried his face in her neck, and kissed it gently.
"I'm not angry. Just don't mention this to the others, okay? " He said, holding Heejin's hand tightly.
"Okay, oppa. " Heejin said dully.
-
They ate dinner in silence.
"Don't play with your food, Heejin-ah. " Hongjoong said suddenly. Heejin put her fork down. "Sorry, Hongjoong oppa. "
"What's bothering you, Cherry? " Jongho asked. Heejin shook her head. "Nothing. "
"Right, your birthday is coming soon. " Yunho grinned. "What do you want? As a present? "
Heejin's gaze meet Yeosang's, and she could see the warning in his eyes. She slumped a little.
"Nothing, oppa. " She lied.
Yeosang, avoiding her eyes, gave her a small nod of approval before continuing to attack his shepherd's pie. Seonghwa looked up thoughtfully.
"Liquor? "
All heads on the table whipped quickly towards him. "What? " Mingi asked, waving his fork dramatically. "Are you serious?"
"I'd never thought I'll hear that from you, hyung. " Wooyoung looked impressed. Yeosang frowned, looking from Seonghwa to Heejin and to Hongjoong.
"I think it's appropriate. Piglet's eighteenth birthday. " San said. "Shall we have a party? "
"In favour of the party with liquor? " Yunho looked around, raising his own hand in the air. Wooyoung, Jongho and San follow suit, along with Seonghwa. Yeosang raised his hand slowly. Mingi turned to Hongjoong, and when the older raised his hand, he slumped back to his chair, defeated.
Wooyoung clapped his hands. "Alright, we're having the freaking party. "
Jongho and Yunho cheered. Heejin laughed.
Hongjoong met Seonghwa's eyes, and he quickly shift his focus back to his pie.
Seonghwa hyung's going to do it, isn't he?
-
Wooyoung waited until Heejin was fully asleep, before he sneaked out of the room.
He quickly went downstairs, to find everyone else waiting for him in their pyjamas.
"...Liquor, huh? " San was saying, sitting on the beanbag near the empty armchair. "Let me take it as a sign to fuck her. "
"You're saying it in a nasty way. " Yunho leaned comfortably as Wooyoung took his seat. "But, I'm curious too, hyung. "
Seonghwa was playing with the hem of his shirt. "As you said, she's eighteen. "
Yeosang sat nearest to the fireplace, the flames illuminated half of his face, keeping the other half in darkness. "She told me that she wants go out. "
Silence. Then something crashed.
Hongjoong put the broken cup down, his hand shaking. "What did you say? "
Everyone looked at Yeosang. He was still leaning on the armchair, calm and collected. "She wants to have a look at the world. "
"This is why we don't teach her geography. " Jongho said. "We don't want to cultivate her curiosity to places outside-"
"I rejected her. " Yeosang continued, as though Jongho didn't speak. "I told her no. "
The tension in the air start to fade. Mingi leaned back, relaxed.
"Although I don't agree with you guys on many matters, but you're right. " He said. "She can't leave us. "
"Back to the liquor. " San said. "What, make her drunk? "
"I think, " Everyone turned to Hongjoong. "That is quite a good idea. "
Seonghwa turned his head to stare at the fireplace. "I feel that she has to choose. " He tapped his fingers on his knee.
"But no matter who went up first, that person must be one of us. "
-
Three days later.
Heejin woke up from her own bed, yawning.
She sat up, rubbing her eyes sleepily. Shiber laid beside her, and she reached for it, burying her face in it.
Someone knocked. Seonghwa peered in, smiling.
"Go down for breakfast, Heejin-ah. "
"Yes, Seonghwa oppa. "
Heejin slide her feet into the furry slippers next to her bed, shuffling into the toilet. When she reached down stairs, everyone was waiting for her, all with a huge grin on their faces.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to our beautiful Kim Heejin... " Heejin laughed, as Hongjoong carried a cake carefully to her, and Yunho hit the railings like a drum.
"...Happy birthday to you! " They ended, as Heejin stood right in front of the cake.
"Make a wish, Heejin-ah." Hongjoong said, as Heejin closed her eyes. After a moment, she opened her eyes, blowing the candles out.
They clapped.
"What did you wish for? " Jongho asked, grinning.
Heejin smiled.
"For everyday to be like the last. "
