“I’m fine,” She answers as she slips the costume on.
“You’re remembering aren’t you,” Cree whispers as he fastens the tail on.
“You never forget summer camp,” She comments as she finishes putting the costume on.
“Alright. Campers, your counselors are wearing some costumes. They will be on them the whole summer. Any questions,” Michael comments while smiling.
“Why the stupid costumes,” One girl asks.
“For your protection,” Sarah answers for Michael. Michael sighs and shakes his head.
“Your counselors should have told you the rules,” Michael comments looking at the counselors. They nod, “Okay. Just remember the counselors stay in the cabins and the doors and windows must stay locked at night. It’s getting late and you all can get settled into the cabin and get to know each other.”
Sarah motions for all her campers to follow her. They do and she shuts the door behind her.
“So, how about we introduce ourselves,” Sarah comments as she sits in front of the door.
“What’s so bad that we have to be locked into the cabin,” One asks.
“You’ll find out soon. Anyways, I’m Sarah. I use she/her pronouns. I am your counselor,” She comments as the sun starts to set.
“I’m Arya. I use she/her pronouns. I’m here because my parents thought it would fix me or something,” She says as a distant howl can be heard.
“What the fuck? There are wolves out here,” A girl says, scared.
“Just stay on your bed and stay quiet,” Sarah says as they hear claws drag along the outside of the cabin. They hear something really heavy walking on the porch. They then hear it walk off.
“What was that,” One of them asks.
“One of the reasons that we have a curfew,” Sarah answers quietly, “Who’s next?”
“I’m Harley. I use he/him pronouns. I was sent here because my parents thought it would cure me of my gay,” One of the boys whispers.
“I’m L...Lorelei. I use she/her pronouns. I was sent here because my parents are going on a cruise and didn’t want to take or deal with me,” A girl answers, scared.
“I’m Hana and he is Izumi. We are twins. I use she/her pronouns and he uses he/him. We were sent here because our uncle is busy dealing with his business,” Hana introduces. Then they hear an inhuman sound. It didn’t sound like any animal on earth either.
“I’m Storm. I am non-binary. I use they/them pronouns. I was sent here because my parents didn’t want to see or hear me during the summer since the rest of the family is coming to visit,” Storm whispers.
“Okay, everyone get some sleep,” Sarah quietly comments. Then they hear whispers coming from outside the cabin. The whispers start talking and calling them. Lorelei lets out a loud whimper. Sarah goes wide eyed and looks at her. Then they hear something big running up to the cabin. Sarah braces the door. Then something starts to pound and slam into the door. She keeps bracing it and tries to not fall over. The pounding and slamming stop. They hear it walk away and Sarah relaxes a bit.
“What’s out there,” Arya asks barely above a whisper.
“A nightmarish hell,” Sarah answers as she looks at them, “Try to get some sleep.”
The campers all nod and get into bed and cover up with their blankets. They all just lay there in silence until they hear the howl again. All of them sit up quickly. They all look at Sarah. She gives a reassuring smile. They hear it again and it’s closer to them. All of them get out of bed and huddle up to Sarah. She sighs and let’s them. They fall asleep there. Sarah stays awake to keep watch. She starts to remember her first night at camp.
Sarah returns to her old summer camp for when she was a teenage and where tragedy hit. Will she be able to face her fears? Will she be able to face her past in time? What happens if she gets caught before she can?
