Levi recognized some of the vampires around Jason. Hugo, Sara, Rose, Sanguinex, and Alax. There were some that Levi didn’t even know. They were all similar - same pale skin, same crimson red eyes, and they all had dark hair. Rose had deep red hair. Hugo had scars all over his body - he stepped into the sun. Sanguinex had black hair. And Alax had deep brown hair.
Behind Levi were Tenny, Luke, Morgan, Sam, and a few others. Unlike the vampires who were all identical, the werewolves looked close to nothing alike. Levi had deep brown hair and blue eyes. Tenny had blonde hair and gray eyes. Luke had light brown hair and lighter blue eyes than Levi. Morgan had light red hair and green eyes. And Sam, he had black hair and amber eyes.
Everybody stared at each other. Jason broke the silence - “We better get going.”
“Yeah, so you can drain more animals,” said Levi. Levi didn’t even see the people behind him change into wolves. He had abandoned the book given to him.
“Right, and you aren’t any better?” It was Sara, she always had an attitude.
“At least we don’t have to avoid the sun and the human village,” said Sam through the link all the wolves shared. Levi didn’t communicate what Sam said aloud, he just grinned.
“No, we aren’t, but we have decency,” Levi said. They all made a noise, a hiss. The hiss came from their throats - much like the wolves when they growled.
“Now now, play nice Levi. We haven’t eaten in days, it wouldn’t be a fair fight, now would it?” Jason, there he goes again, trying to make peace. Why was Jason hiding from his clan? Levi asked himself.
“I suppose not,” Levi said.
“When is the next full moon?” Rose was one of the only ones who could fool you. She was really nice to the werewolves. She was a genuine person.
Tenny was back in her human form, “3 days. You should make sure to eat before then. The fight wouldn’t be much fun if you’re weak like this.” Tenny had a cruel side to her, it was only shown to the vampires.
Sara laughed - her fangs showing -, every head turned to her. “I’m sorry. It’s funny. You werewolves can’t go over 5 days without eating. Yet, we go weeks without eating, just to make a point to you. We don’t even know what humans look like. I’m sorry Tenny, but, you can’t talk like that to us. Starve yourself for 3 weeks, feel the pain course through your body, then complain to us.”
“She’s really mad. They don’t show their fangs unless they’re, like, trembling with rage,” spoke Sam through the link.
“Yes, but look at their eyes. Their eyes are bright red when they just ate, their eyes are almost amber. They haven’t eaten in a while,” Morgan, she liked them, sometimes.
“Levi, are they okay?” The strange question came from Luke.
“I don’t know. When I found Jason, he was hiding in a tree,” Levi said. They might as well know.
“They’re eyes... They look so drained and tired.” Levi didn’t know who said it. He stopped paying attention, he looked up, and -
“Guys! They left,” Levi practically screamed into the link. Remaining were just Jason and Rose.
“Sigh, You can stop talking in the link,” Jason spoke, his voice laced with boredom. Seeing the werewolves confused faces, he explained, “when you talk in your heads, your eyes glaze over, your breathing is steadier, and your faces scrunch up like your focusing on something.” He paused once more and turned to Rose. “I’m going to go make sure everyone got back. Be back at least an hour before sunrise. No wandering over by,” he paused seeing the werewolves, “well, you know where.”
The werewolves watched in curiosity, instead of running, he walked away.
“Why is he walking away?” Morgan asked.
“Well, we usually only eat the day before a full moon. Sometimes we eat earlier, like if we’re on the brink of starvation. This month we ate a little earlier, but not much. Jason is walking because he didn’t eat anything,” she frowned, “despite our protests.” She paused and let what she said sink in. She chuckled a little - as if remembering something funny. “One time, when we didn’t fight - usually we eat before fights - we had to eat. Jason, let us all eat before him. While we were eating, he tried to sneak away. We caught him and had to force-feed him. That was a very funny moment.” She ended spacing off like she was sad.
Someone spoke - someone who Levi couldn’t remember at the moment - “Was that during the blood moon?”
“Yes, it was during the blood moon Lily,” that was Rose for you. She memorized everyone’s names and what they looked like in their wolf form. Levi, Tenny, Luke, Sam, and Morgan were the higher-ups in the pack. Levi, Tenny, and Luke had memorized everyone’s names and faces. Levi knew what they all looked like in their wolf form, but his adopted sister and second in command didn’t. Tenny had tried, and was very good at guessing people out, but, even she had trouble sometimes. Rose took time to memorize everyone, she was one of the nicest vampires they met.
As if talking to herself she said, “I should go make sure Jason eats something.” She started to walk away. She turned around, “Bye. Rember, I don’t mind answering your questions.” She turned fully around and started jogging through the forest.
“Well, that was interesting,” stated Luke. Funny how those 4 words could sum up that entire encounter. Levi was deep in thought, he was thinking about his full moon fighting partner. Was that why Jason always held back when fighting? Because he never ate? Was Jason hiding from his Clan because he didn’t want to eat?
Slowly, they all turned around - heading in the exact opposite direction of the vampires.
