She sat up, still tired. She tried blinking the spots out of her eyes. She got up stretching a little, her deep long red hair falling out her shoulder. She was careful to avoid the still sleeping bodies. Last night was hard on them, so they all slept in the same room, to comfort one another. Full moons were always hard.
Last night was hard.
They had eaten the night before. Their leader conveniently missing.
She headed downstairs. Her eyes were red and puffy. She had cried herself to sleep.
Last night they walked through the forest. The wolves loved to fight. She had decided to talk to her best friend on the way there - Sara. They walked and talked until they got to their usual clearing. Jason lagged behind almost the entire time, which worried her. Rose got only a brief glance at him before he told everyone to get going. His eyes seemed nowhere near being crimson red, they were yellow.
When they got there Jason stood in front, Rose behind him. Rose had tried to voice her concerns to Sara. Sara thought that if something was wrong Jason would tell them. In front of Rose were the werewolves. They all had fur that seemed to glisten in the full moon. Most of them had the same build, few had a smaller build. Rose didn’t even know why they fought, she might even think they all used to be friends in the past. At this point, Rose, and the other vampires agreed, that they fight on full moons just for the werewolves. Rose was snapped out of her thoughts with a soft thud. She looked down to see something she wished she would never see.
Jason. Passed out from hunger.
Rose stood, frozen. She knew, without looking, the other vampires were staring, frozen. Rose couldn’t take her eyes off Jason, his black hair stood out against his too pale skin. It made sense, his eyes were yellow, he flinched away from even the light of the moon, and she hadn’t seen him eat for over a month.
The vampires stared at him for a long time. It felt like Rose was dying, if they were humans she would check if he was breathing or if his heart was beating. She couldn’t do anything, they were all already half dead. Sara broke out of the trance first.
“W-what-t?” Sara rarely stuttered.
The werewolves had somehow transformed into their human forms, Rose didn’t know how that was possible with the full moon and all. Levi spoke second, he really was nice, you just had to get to know him.
“When was the last time he ate?” Levi - he was always composed.
“He didn’t eat last night, or last time, so-” Hugo was cut off by a stuttering Rose.
“T-t-two m-mon-months,” Rose stuttered out. She had managed to tear her wide crimson eyes away from Jason’s limp body. Everyone’s eyes widened when she spoke.
“Two months?!” Tenny sounded angry and shocked. Rose slowly nodded her head.
“I mean, his eyes were yellow, how did you not notice?!” It’s strange how the werewolves rarely show they care for the vampires, but when they do, they go all out.
“We respect it when Jason tells us to go away. Plus, he did a good job hiding. Jason has done this before, but it never got this bad.” Alax was talking, he rarely talked. “He hides from us or says he’s going on a walk and won’t come back until we’re done eating. We’ve tried force-feeding him, but he hates it when we do that.”
“Y-you n-n-need t-to take h-him with y-you,” Rose stuttered again. She saw on the werewolves features, they were twitching, the full moon was becoming hard for them to go against. “W-we can’t take him. W-we live on just enough blood to get by, too much blood will make us sick. I-if we bring him, we’ll end up drinking the blood out of h-hunger.” Rose had slowed her talking so it came out clearer. She lifted Jason up with ease. She took a few steps forward and handed the limp body to the werewolves. Levi took him with ease.
“He’s lighter than I thought,” the comment made a small smile come to Rose’s features.
Levi turned around. The others had turned back to their wolf forms. Levi, carrying Jason, ran off. Rose just stood there, staring after her crush as he left.
