Thorne nods. ‘You slept so peacefully, I didn’t want to wake you.’
Both of them get out of the car and go inside. Once again, Thorne states the plan for the next day. ‘From now on, you won’t be leaving the house much. I’ll give you some work tomorrow in the afternoon.’
He also gives Jin one of those red pills again.
‘Ehm, I think I’m already better, I probably don’t need to take it anymore.’
Thorne frowns inwardly, but still replies calmly. ‘Right, I forgot to tell you. Tomorrow in the morning a doctor will come by, to run a few tests on you. Even though you might be feeling alright, we still don’t know what happened before you came here, so it’s just to be safe. For today just take the pill, the doctor will tell you what to do from then on tomorrow.’
This makes Jin think how considerate he is. Jin himself hadn’t even thought about it, maybe partially due to the shock from this situation, but Thorne, who is still not much more than a stranger, is worried about his wellbeing.
So Jin just takes the pill.
After that, Thorne shows him the art room. It’s a large room with windows from the floor to the ceiling, with long beige curtains. This room has a different vibe to it, but it somehow is calming. There are also a lot of paintings covered by cloths, and a few empty canvases.
‘You mentioned you liked painting, so feel free to come here anytime. Just don’t touch the covered paintings, or rather any of the paintings. You can use any empty canvas and paint.’
Having seen the art room, Jin once again goes to his room to not bother Thorne, and much like the previous day, even though Jin stays up for long, Thorne is still working hard as Jin goes to sleep.
Once again, Jin has the same dream as the previous night, only this time he hears his colleague say business trip instead of trip, and even though he doesn’t know the destination of the taxi, he clearly gets out at a relatively big hotel. That’s where he wakes up from the dream.
Since it’s the dream that makes him wake up, it’s still very early, only 6AM. As expected though, Thorne is already awake, and it sounds like he’s talking on the phone. This is the first time Jin hears Thorne’s voice not being that calm and collected tone. He doesn’t think much until he hears Thorne say ‘dead’. That itself isn’t the problem, but it’s followed by ‘you said you would…. disposed of him…’ Now Jin is a little shocked. Unfortunately, Thorne is downstairs, so Jin can’t hear most of the conversation. It’s a miracle he hears any of it. For the first time Jin starts questioning his safety. Why did he think a random guy who took him in in the middle of nowhere would be harmless?
But Jin quickly stops thinking this way, remembering everything Thorne has done for him. Who knows what the conversation was about, and honestly in some conversations it could make sense right?
After staying in bed just a little longer Jin gets up. As expected, there is a new set of clothes. Today there surprisingly is also a mobile phone with a note ‘Thought you could need one. I put my number into the contacts.’ See? Once again Thorne is thoughtful, he can’t be a bad person. He must have misheard, which honestly wouldn’t be surprising from that distance.
When Jin comes downstairs for breakfast, Thorne is a little surprised, but it doesn’t show. ‘You’re early today. Did you not sleep well?’
‘I did, but I have been having dreams about how I got here, and I just can’t remember all of it.’
Once again Thorne is a little surprised.
‘Oh, what did you remember?’
‘Actually, nothing much yet, just that I went here on a business trip and how I took a taxi to a big hotel.’
‘Alright. It’s good if you remember, but don’t strain yourself, don’t try too hard. Now give me a moment, I’ll make you breakfast.’
He quickly walks of, and Jin starts looking around the room. As expected, there’s literally nothing suspicious.
Soon after breakfast, there is knocking on the door.
Thorne opens the door, and a tall, slightly dark-skinned man with short, wavy brown hair and glasses comes in.
‘Hi, I’m Dr. Sanguine. If you’re okay with it, I’ll do a quick check up.’
Jin nods, and the doctor runs a few tests. Everything appears to be normal. Heart rate, blood pressure, reflexes, they’re all okay. Lastly, the doctor takes a blood sample from Jin to check it to be sure. For this he sends Thorne away and explains Thorne can’t stand the sight of blood. Jin thanks the doctor. The doctor stays with Thorne for a little longer outside the house and they discuss something, but Jin can’t hear what they’re saying.
Thorne comes inside. ‘Sorry I had something to discuss with him as I haven’t seen him in a while. Now, I’ll show you to another office space in my house.’
Thorne leads Jin upstairs and shows him a small room with a PC and two big monitors. There is also a desk with many compartments filled with office supplies.
‘I made an account for you, it doesn’t have a password yet, but you can set one if you feel the need. Feel free to use the PC whenever you need. I’ll send you some files that need to be fixed together with instructions if you give me your e-mail address. If you don’t want to work on it, you don’t have to work on it for long. It’s just a way for you to feel better about staying here for free anyway.’
Jin sits down and starts up the PC. There indeed is an account called ‘Jin’. All the software Jin normally uses for work is already there. He quickly logs into his mail, but surprisingly there’s no messages from any company yet asking where he is.
Soon an email from Thorne arrives, containing a few files. He opens them and sees the name of the company the job is for. TE company. For some reason he feels like there was something with this company he should remember.
