The songs were so melodic that anyone who heard had the urge to dance, the tempting scent from the well prepared dishes had everyone's mouth watering and among the drinks a special wine used solely on the greatest celebrations.
The loud cheers echoed through the walls, The atmosphere itself was very inviting. But to the servants,it was an extremely busy day and any mistake would be unforgivable. Why? Because that's the first party they had after a long period of crisis.
In only two years, the kingdom of Askarimi became prosperous again. All thanks to their new benevolent ruler that was now commemorating his birthday. The pressure to have everything happen perfectly was enormous.
"Today's been so hectic." She commented while lying on a chair.
"The party just started and I heard it'll end when the sun rises…" The maid near the kitchen sink added.
"Ugh,don't say that."
They have been up since 5 am, decorating the party hall, the kitchen lacked personnel , consequently , they were 'asked' to give a hand there.
"I wish I was one of the guests!" Zena left the piles of dirty dishes, hoping it would wash itself.
"Stop, talking nonsense or Anisa will show up to scold us."
"It's not like she-"
"Enough chit chatting, get back to work you two!" Their supervisor appeared out of nowhere.
"Right away,ma'am." Adira went back to serve the appetizers, her friend remained in the kitchen. By midnight, all the visitors finally left yet that didn't mean the work was over, their current task was cleaning up the mess.
"... Really?" She picked up lost underwear under one table.
"That's the least concerning, once I found a-" Zena is interrupted again.
"Adira, what are you doing here!? You were supposed to clean the king's chambers!"
"Isn't that Mila's job? I usually clean the corridors."
"She got imprisoned yesterday for stealing the king's valuables." Zena whispered in her ears.
"That's sooo Mila." She whispered back.
"I'm sorry,I must've forgotten to inform you. Could you go clean there now?" Anisa had giant dark circles under her eyes.
Her boss was responsible for holding the banquet that all the nobles were looking forward to,the levels of stress and overwork must've been unbearable. No wonder her temper has gotten worse ever since this morning.
Adira looked at that proud bossy woman and for the first time, she felt sympathetic. Sometimes, she wondered if Anisa was truly human, now her doubts have been cleared.
A maid became friends with the king after accidentally seeing him cry alone in his chambers. Will this friendship between Adira and Sahil turn into something else?
