Upon entering the king's bedchamber, her humble self was mesmerized by the luxuriously detailed room, well adorned curtains and a spacious carved bed. Things that didn't mean much for royals, though for commoners like Mila would bring the desire to grasp a fraction of this leisurely lifestyle. Even if it meant paying a high price for it.
Out of the blue,a silent cry came from that same spacious bed. That was odd, considering the grandiose event they just held and this dreamlike quarter. There was no apparent reason for anyone to weep, especially the owner of this room.
Curiosity made her steal a glance in that direction, she saw something unbelievable. The monarch who always had that strong, confident posture was crying as if in defeat. He seemed so fragile that she almost reached out to console him.
He hasn't seen me yet, so I should take this opportunity to leave...
Reluctant, she made her way back, careful to not bump into anything. Her hand slightly touched a random vase that fell, fortunately it didn't break.
It always ends like this! Why every single time I try to leave unnoticed something falls making the noisiest sound possible?!
"Who 's there?"
Shaking nervously the woman made up the best excuse one could think of in a few seconds, hoping he would let it go. After all,he was known for being forgiving.
"I'm Adira, your majesty. I was sent to clean, but I didn't wish to disturb your slumber and decided to leave..."
"Don't lie. You heard me cry, didn't you?" He had an exasperated expression.
"Honestly, I wouldn't trust anything my eyes saw now! They've been affected by exhaustion." She tried to shake it off.
"Wait, you saw?" He ran his fingers through his hair.
"Yes…" There was no use hiding anymore, not when the cat's out of the bag.
Suddenly, his presence felt extremely threatening, his glare piercing right through her that couldn't gather the courage to look in his eyes. Despite being doing so minutes ago.
"I won't tell a soul, please spare me!" The maid desperately begged on her knees.
"If you tell, you know what will happen. Now,go." He ordered.
"Immediately,your majesty!"
Adira practically ran to the exit because of how fast she managed to walk with her trembling legs. Seeing the king's grin gave her a shiver down her spine, hopefully he wouldn't be thinking of putting her in the dungeon like he did to Mila... Right?
A maid became friends with the king after accidentally seeing him cry alone in his chambers. Will this friendship between Adira and Sahil turn into something else?
