Nota bene: the chapter features mild mature content!
Having had a sweetly pretty talk with her father on the phone, Billy smiles happily. Feeling her mood, Nina stirs in the bag, but she doesn't dare to stick her nose out: there are too many people in the café.
It is still snowing outside, but the Sun's rays are managing to break through the clouds, making the snowflakes sparkle while boldly striving from Heaven to the Earth.
Despite Christmas morning, there are a lot of customers. Mostly young ones, more likely students who have stayed for the Christmas holidays in a big city: they are still unencumbered by serious family duties and other "pompous traditional nonsense". Some of them are exchanging belated gifts or hugging friends who has just arrived. Gossips, laughter, conversations, congratulations, and familiar sounds of any coffee shop are nicely mixed with socials' notification sounds.
The thought flashed through Billy's head that she shouldn't have been happy about the postponed meeting. Her dad only got to New York for work before Christmas (some kind of architectural project or so). Billy, unlike her younger sister, doesn't like to meddle in his business and generally tries to limit communication with him, especially after college graduation.
Andrew stayed for Christmas to see her, but mother's flight was rerouted to another city due to weather conditions. He sincerely apologized, but ma has to be picked up from a different airport.
What a great guy, an amazing father, but the events of the past don't allow her to forgive him no matter how hard she tries. Of course, he was under the influence of the strange portal magic, and he lost the memory of what happened that day on the foggy river bank (thanks to dear Aunt Astrid), and now he has no idea what power his relatives possess. Moreover, he got what he wanted: ordinary Andrew and his ordinary family. Let everything be so for him.
Billy frowns. The mere thought that she could lose Nina because of him truly horrifies her. No, he is not worthy of forgiveness. Thirteen years have passed since that very day of the revelations, but the resentment is deeply rooted in her. Sarah forgave him quickly (everything is like water off a duck's back when we talk about her childish attitude towards serious issues – a classic simpleton baby), Astrid and Grandma has never been mad, they were sorry for him, but not young revolutionary Billy.
She didn't come out for him too. It seems that everyone except her father knows that she is a lesbian. She never confessed not because she was scared or ashamed: the whatsit has always been proud of herself. The reason is pretty simple: Billy believes that he is unworthy. His feverish words are still in her head. It is much easier to let him see in her who he wants to see, but not who she is.
"Why are you sad, beauty?" The handsome guy behind the counter winks at her. In his hand there is a big mug of hot aromatic tea with herbs ready for another client.
Billy frowns and turns to the window. The mug of hot drink explodes in his hands. The guy screams. Waitresses rush to his aid with towels, someone is bringing a mop.
The customers sigh:
...The mug was probably too hot. Yeah, it happens with low-quality, cheap crockery. He's not hurt, is he? It seems he is fine...
"You could have burned him," Nina says quietly. Billy starts a bit. Squirrel girl manages to shift into her human form, taking the advantage of the hustle and bustle of the exploded mug. Gingerhead usually turns so quickly and unexpectedly: you blink for a second, and now she is already sitting in all her gorgeousness next to Billy.
Billy shrugs her delicate shoulders. She is not interested in a flirting barista or a waiter or whoever he is. To tell the truth, she seldom pays attention to people who are not gifted with magic, she is even cruel to them if it seems to her that they are standing in her way. Now she's more interested in Nina's slightly protruding nipples (her red high neck slim pullover is simply begging to be ripped).
"Aren't you jealous of me?" Billy raises her eyebrow with two little blue dots of a cocky piercing.
Nina is confused: she doesn't understand the cause to be jealous. The fine lines of human life don't seem so important to her. If he went into the open or began to pester her Billy, she would, of course, have bit off his hand or nose.
"Are you upset about your father?" Nina always manages to get to the point.
Billy hugs Nina, admiring her hair, "You would have to sit in a bag all day long while I would pretend to be a good daughter. I don't want him to take even one minute of our time."
"Maybe he should know that I'm your girlfriend..." Nina suggests naively, enjoying the warmth of her body. Billy smells like chocolate, hazelnuts, strawberry shampoo, and a hot night together.
"You are not my girlfriend," Billy declares firmly, enjoying Nina's astonished face, "you are my fiancée. It's high time for you to call yourself this way!"
Billy always enjoys how easily Nina blushes with embarrassment, even though she does something unimaginable in bed at night moving her flexible body with bestial stamina.
This is exactly the same blush Nina had during their first night together eight years ago.
To be continued...
