It had been about a week since Nova had seen Tyrus. She felt horrible about it. She had been avoiding him, but what happened at the initiation wasn't his fault. Nova had decided she would surprise him with a new knife he had always liked throwing knives. She had wrapped a red bow around the handle, it seemed stupid but why not wrap a gift. Nova jogged up to his apartment and knocked on the door. She could hear people moving around inside the room. Who was with him? When Tyrus opened the door he sure was surprised to see Nova there. His hair was a mess and he looked disheveled.
“Nova what are you doing here?” he said, talking louder as he announced to somebody else what was going on.
“Am I not allowed to visit you?” she said. Something was wrong, the look in his eyes gave it away instantly. He was fidgeting like he had an itch he couldn't reach.
“No you can, I'm just busy right now bunny,” he said trying to play it cool. Nova’s eyes drifted up and down his body. Her eyes caught on the scarlet lipstick stain on his neck.
“Who's in there with you?” Nova asked leaning past him.
“just one of the guys,” he said rubbing the back of his neck and blocking her view of the inside.
“Wow I didn't know the guys wore lipstick and kissed your neck.” she glared at him as his face went bright red.
“Alright, alright…… I've been cheating on you,” he said standing his ground.
“Wow..” she said, “I'm not even worth lying to you just gonna throw it out there.” She wasn't even sad, just enraged.
“Nova, listen, some things just don't work out,” Tyrus said as he placed a hand on her shoulder and talked to her like she was a small child. he was smiling. He enjoyed this.
“So who is it?” she asked, staring him down.
He laughed at her “your sister Lynnette, she’s way better anyway.” he smiled again. Nova felt as if he had slapped her. “She’s always been better; she even helped me rig the trial’s so you would have to kill Leon.” Tyrus laughed.
Nova felt like the world had frozen, he had planned for there to kill Leon he knew Leon would sacrifice himself for her. He knew he would have died. Nova whipped out the knife she had gotten him. Tyrus’s face went white.
“Nova where did you get that?” he said his voice shaking as he retreated into the room.
“Oh, this?” Nova said as she gestured to the knife, all her rational thoughts were gone. she had spent her entire life being told Lynnett was better, the perfect child. she let it consume her. now she was going to prove she was better and always would be.
“well, I got it as a surprise for you. I still think you should have it.” Nova said as she glared at him.
Tyrus put his arms up in defense, trying to block his face first assuming she was going to lunge at him. Nova smirked, then threw the knife right at him. She knew he wouldn't have expected it, and she was right. The blade hit him square in the chest. He gasped for a moment as his hands flew to the blade. He crumpled to the ground in a pool of his own blood. Nova walked over and ripped the knife from his chest. Nova heard a gasp from behind her. She spun around to find Lynnette standing behind her.
“How could you, you psycho.” Lynnette cried out. Then her sister's sorrowful expression turned to anger.
“You're gonna pay,” she shouted as she lunged at Nova.
Nova barely had time to roll out of the way and avoid her sister's blade. She knew this wasn't going to end well. Lynnette lunged again, Nova quickly grabbed her wrist and flipped her onto her back. Lynnette rolled over wheezing, Nova had knocked the wind out of her. She stood holding her chest as she ran at Nova again. Lynnette swung her knife but stopped mid-swing and looked down. Nova had planted the knife into her stomach, the red ribbon gleaming in the little light left.
“No…” Lynnette whispered as she dropped to her knees. Lynnette locked eyes with Nova.
“You're a monster,” she whispered as she fell forward onto the knife.
Nova looked around at the blood that covered the floor, them, and herself. She flipped Lynnette over and pulled the knife out of her stomach. Then she turned and left the room, the door wide open for all to see. There was no point in hiding it, someone was going to find it. This game of hide and seek had just ended.
