Jenna enters the airport at least ten minutes before her flight, quickly going through security and seeing that the boy looked to recognize her.
"Aren't you Jenna?" The boy asks, shoving her bag through the scanning machine.
"Yeah, that's me."
The boy smiles, sticking his hand out, he was way taller than the girl and she was sure of that. "I'm Ian, one of Lyla's best friends."
"Oh, you're the one she's been talking about." His eyes lit up and it almost looked as if he were a little puppy.
"She's talked about me?" Jenna nods, taking her bag as she passes through the line. "Well tell her that she owes me and Evan a ton of buckeyes when she gets back."
"Will do!" She goes to board the plane, finding her seat and sitting down, a girl who seems to be the same age as her sits beside her, plugging in her earbuds to her phone and pressing play before the girl taps her shoulder.
"Pardon?" She asks, the girl looks at her with intent before slightly smiling.
"You must be Jenna right?"
"How does everyone know my name?"
"We're all friends of Lyla, she has a wide network. Anyway I'm Lizzy, nice to meet you." She sticks out her hand for the other to shake, Jenna takes the hand, awkwardly positioning herself. "I see Victoria couldn't make it."
"Yeah, Lyla told me she had some last minute work to do."
"Ah, that sounds like her, she's a nice girl though."
"So are you." Lizzy smiles, clasping both of her hands around the other's.
"Thank you."
"Alright people, the plane is about to take off so get comfortable and enjoy the hour ride to Ohio." Many get into position for the flight and the two girls do the same, Lizzy reads something on her laptop as Jenna closes her eyes, her music flowing into her ears as the last bit of energy is drained from her.
When they landed Lizzy was the one to wake her, the sun was starting to set and her vision was rendering into focus.
"How long was I out for?"
"Well almost an hour and a half, but we're here, in my home state."
"So you're from Ohio too?"
"Courtney, Emma, Lyla, Victoria and I all are. So is Matt but we don't talk about him."
"How come?."
"One of Lyla's ex-boyfriends, we all knew that the poor girl doomed herself getting into that relationship."
"Oh..."
"Yeah... now come on, I got a text from Courtney that she would meet us near baggage claim."
"Uhm." They both get up and walk off the plane, heading down the escalator to see the silhouettes of Lyla and Courtney. The whole way down the girl thought about what her and Lizzy's conversation was, how was Lyla "doomed" by being in that relationship with a girl she didn't even know? It wasn't her business and she most certainly won't ask, well at least not yet.
Jenna quickly runs down the rest of the stairs and towards the comedian as she has her arms out wide, waiting for the other piece of the hug. Lizzy hurries after her to be met with Courtney, they make small talk as they wander off, leaving the two.
"I missed you."
"It's been a day since we last talked."
"Whatever, I still missed you."
"Alright then." Lyla smiles, pulling the girl just an inch closer.
"Shut up." She mumbles into the other's shoulder, obviously embarrassed. Lyla chuckles as she kisses the girl's head. "You look nice, it makes me feel a little underdressed."
"Nah this is what I always wear. Plus where we're going doesn't require nice clothing. Also--" Her voice gets softer as her lips brush Jenna's ear, a new wave of red invading her face. "Quit stealing my hoodies." She whispers, pulling back she grins and grabs the girl's hand, interlocking their fingers as they wander off towards the baggage claim. "Lizzy! How you doin'? Sorry I didn't get to say hi."
"Nah it's alright, your girlfriend is of higher priority and I can see why, she's a keeper."
"I second that." Courtney smirks as Lyla gives them both a death glare.
"I hate you both." She states blankly.
"Pfft, we know you love us." The comedian rolls her eyes until her ears pick up the sound of suitcases falling from the carousel.
Jenna almost felt like a ghost as she stood there with her hand in a tight grip with the other as she closely stayed by her side, not wanting to show the other's of their hands. But it was nice hearing and seeing the other in person again, even if it sounds stupid and seeming like a clingy girlfriend, she still loves her.
"Alright I'll see you guys later. Take care." Lyla drags Jenna over to Mel's car that she was able to borrow from their conversation earlier that day. She puts her suitcase in the trunk and gets into the car.
"Where are we going exactly?"
"The park. Would rather eat with the others."
"So a park date?"
"In the middle of spring? Definitely." Jenna chuckles before resting her arm on the console as they back out of the short term lot. A comfortable silence comes between them before a red light hits and Lyla takes the step to interlock their fingers again.
"Wanna listen to some music?"
"Sure, you can Bluetooth it to the car."
"Okay..." Jenna takes out her phone and does everything with one hand, the country beats of a guitar start to play as Lyla recognizes the song and she didn't even know that the other listened to country. Though Jenna kept the song for really no reason, guess it was one of those songs that got lost in her playlist that only surfaced when it finally shuffled to it.
"Momma and daddy put the roots right here cause this where the car broke down"
"MTV on the RCA no A/C in the vents" Both of the girls giggle as Lyla tries her hardest to sound so southern that it hurts.
"Baby come give me a kiss." Both of them stop after that lyric, a light comfortable silence in the air as Jenna begins to fidget with her hand.
The park, from what Lyla can remember is that it was beautiful in the springtime, well in her mind it was but she would always go there as a kid and it would be the greatest time of her life.
When they arrive, they park along the side of the road and pay the toll before walking away, Lyla making sure that the car is locked.
"Downtown Columbus looks way different than New York."
"Yep, a lot less busy."
"That means I won't lose you often."
"Oh hush, I'd probably be the one loosing you." Both of them chuckle as they enter the woods near the park, it was one of the girl's favorite places to be. Jenna gives her an odd look.
"Weren't we going to the park?"
"The woods are better, have nice lighting and stuff."
"This isn't a photoshoot."
"You want it to?" The girl turns her head, hiding her smile.
"An adventure would be better."
"Then an adventure we shall call it."
"How did I ever fall in love with you?"
"Cause I'm funny, caring, everything a boy should have but I stole it instead."
"Funny would definitely be up there."
"I make a living out of being funny, its always been up there."
"What about me, what made you fall in love with me?"
"What made me fall in love with you was your personality, how you always chuckled at the dumb jokes I'd say, always helped me when I was sad, and the greatest thing was that we clicked so well."
"That seems pretty basic."
"Oh shut up."
"Then make me." A silence settles between them as they stop, a small river in front of them, preventing them from going farther.
"Is this enough to shut you up?"
"Frick you."
"Oo so we're gonna use the big words now."
"I hate you."
"Love you too."
They were sitting now, admiring the spring beauty with the smallest amount of sunlight. The silence between them was comfortable, almost lovable.
"How long until your show?" Lyla looked down at her phone, it showed the time of 5:34. Looking up she moves her hand while mumbling to herself.
"Least twenty six minutes."
"Are you nervous? Being up in front of all those people?" Jenna moves closer to the other.
"Nope, been doing stand-up for four years now, I was never afraid of giving people a good time." Lyla smiles as she looks out at the water before looking over at the other. "Are you trying to find a way to kiss me?"
Jenna was thrown into a stumble of red as she knocked her head up against Lyla's arm. "Maybe."
"Well why didn't you say that?" She slowly tips the girl's chin down before bringing her forwards, kissing her.
