The world of Eden is in conflict. It has been 20 years since the Fifth Magic War, where the Magitech Coalition soundly beat the Alliance Of Magic, dethroning mages from their traditional position of power from the continent. Yet even 20 years later, magedom has not forgotten its humiliation at the hands of non-mages, ever longing for a chance to return things to how they used to be. And even with the war over, the void of power in many regions ravaged by the war has allowed many organized criminal organisations to fill exactly these voids. With peace and prosperity slowly returning, the official rulers of the continent's nations are finally able to push back the crime. But the crime gangs will not go down easily.
The prosperous city-state of Yggdrasia, surrounding the World Tree of Yggdrasil, has luckily been spared by much of this chaos. The World Trees are seen as the mythological protectors of Eden, allowing them and the people living with them to stay neutral in almost any conflict.
In this surprisingly prosperous city-state, a young girl is nearing her dream of becoming a Guardian, one of the magical protectors of the tree and the city. But all is not as well as it seems. The slums around the city, simply called the Outskirts, were formed from the waves of people fleeing to the city for safety during and after the war. It seems that, at last, organized crime has reached the city, using the poor and downtrodden in the Outskirts for their own machinations. The city can withstand an attack from without, but can it withstand an attack from within? The ascension to Guardian might be harder than our young Guardian aspirant expected…
