TUESDAYS ARE THE DAYS Beau hated the most, it was the days he always had P.E classes and he despised the class but mostly the P.E teacher. Mr. Morales believed in the fact that everyone has to be good at sport even if they weren’t physically possible for some students. He forced students to perform difficult exercises that even the athletes’ students’ complaint about.
“I hate this class.” He complained for the ninth time to James, who was having the time of his life running next to him although it didn’t mean that his friend wasn’t also frustrated too. James grinned as he paced himself with Beau’s slow speed. The teacher wanted them to do track for the day; Beau hated running and anything to do with running. He was already clumsy and sports any type of sport seemed to hate him. He was lucky not to trip most days.
“Come on, last lap and you’ll rest.” James tugged him forward with him; Beau groaned but followed his friend. All he wanted to do was sit down and sketch something. It would help him relax, ever since his aunt told him about his mom’s phone call he felt down and restless. He hasn’t heard from her in years.
James noticed him slowing down, with his brows furrowed and pouting lips. “B?” Beau looked up, realizing he had stopped running and James was waiting for him with a confused expression. The jock had sweat covering his forehead and panted slightly.
“Sorry, let’s go.” Beau said running passed the confused James. James followed him and they ran the last lap. Mr. Morales sent them a sneer for being the last to arrive, not they cared much for his opinion. Beau practically fell down on the ground in exhaustion panting. James sat down next to him taking a break too. “Alright boys, go to the showers. Class is over.” Mr. Morales yelled out and most of his classmates sighed and muttered in relief. Beau really wasn’t the only one who hates Tuesday.
“Jaslene recital is coming soon. Did you prepare a gift for her? A bucket of Flowers?” James asked Beau. They were on the way to lunch, both glad to be done with P.E class. Beau was going to have his lunch in the library so he can read up on a book for his English class. Beau shook his head; he had prepared some ideas but didn’t buy anything yet. It will be the first time Jaslene got a main role for her ballet recital. She’s playing the black swan and she’s been hyped up about it.
“I was thinking of going after school today before work. I thought I’ll look around first.” Beau said. James smiled nodding. “Good idea, B. I’ll come with you.”
Beau agreed and James went to the cafeteria and he walked to the library. The librarian is a kind woman with a stern face. He greeted her and made his way to a table. He spent his lunch doing his essay and marking lines in his book on the subject for class.
After school they met up at their lockers and packed up for the day. James had his car today and didn’t have practice as their coach was sick at home with high fever. Don’t ask how they knew. So the duo drove to nearby mall.
During the car ride James had asked him. “B, you know you can vent about what’s worrying you to me, right?” James had his eyes on the road but from his tone he could hear his friend’s care and worry for him. It made him realize that most of the time he had Jaslene to vent to and yet left James out never really telling him his concerns.
“James, I-“Beau’s words got stuck in his throat and he panicked. Not because he didn’t want to tell James but didn’t know how to. He’s so used to telling Jaslene everything that he forgot he had James too. James would understand him the same way Jaslene would. He felt like a bad friend and he turned to James with a sad look.
He took a deep breath and tried again this time much calmer. “My mom… she called my aunt asking about me. It kind of ruined my good mood bringing back things… things I don’t want to think about.” He opened up to James and to his relieve James listened quietly but gave him a reassuring smile.
James sighed; he knew all too well about the things between Beau and his mom. It was messed up and he understood straight away that it really bothered his friend.
“I would offer you a hug right now, B. but…” He glanced down to his hand on the steering wheel. Beau smiled at James way of comforting him. James had his own way to make him feel better. “But I’m here for you and I’ll help you if you need anything, B.”
“Thanks, J.” Beau smiled and the rest of the ride he felt lighter than this morning.
“J, let’s check her favorite place to shop first and we’ll continue from there.” Beau said closing the car door. James nodded agreeing with him, he looked the car. The duo walked to the entrance of the mall, making a beeline to the only shop they both know had things Jaslene would like. It’s cute shop where they both knew very well. Shopping with Jaslene made them well acquainted with the shop. Beau grimaced looking up at the bright and colorful sign of the store.
“Hi welcome to Kawaii Kawaii!” They were greeted at the door by a salesgirl. The girl was dressed up in the shop’s merchandise and smiling sweetly at them. James grimaced but looked around the place before making his way to one side when something caught his eye. Beau watched him go before he too started looking.
Beau wandered around the shop, he stopped at some necklaces that look nice. Beau put his hand under his chin leaning closer inspecting each one of the jewelry one by one. They all were pretty and some matched his best friend really well but not what he was looking for.
He picked one up it was one with a nice and unique design of ballet flats. He knew she didn’t have it so he thought to pick it and some earrings. He then wandered to where they have a selection of earrings. After standing there for about five minutes not knowing which to choice, he was stuck.
“Need help?” Beau glanced towards the voice. Mylo’s smiling face surprised him; he dropped the earrings in his hand and straightened his back. Beau stared at Mylo, mind blanking out. Beau openly stared at the man who was still smiling at him albeit bemused.
Uh, well...” Beau stuttered to think what to respond after a minute of staring at Mylo speechless. Mylo grinned amused he covered his lips with the palm of his hand to hide his grin. Beau groaned, facing away from Mylo trying to hide his flustered face. Why is did he run into him now? Mylo looked very attractive and it had him in a total mess trying to keep his mind from wandering. His eyes though did wandered and, he gulped quickly looking away.
“Looking for a gift for your girlfriend?” Mylo asked trying to be helpful to the clearly embarrassed male. Beau almost heard a bit of disappointment in Mylo’s voice but he must’ve heard wrong, they barely know each other.
“No. I- I don’t have a girlfriend.” He explained immediately so Mylo didn’t get the wrong idea. “My friend has a ballet recital and she likes this store so I- well me and my friend over there,” He gesture to James who was holding a nice hoodie in his hands. “We are looking for a gift for her. She got a main role so the excitement is high for all of us.”
Beau stopped talking, sighing in even more embarrassment for babbling too much. “Sorry. I need help, yes.”
“Okay. Follow me.” Mylo’s smile never left his face as he listened to him talk and after answering his question he gestured for him to follow him. Beau walked behind Mylo following him to a nice glass display case with many set of necklaces with matching earrings and bracelets.
“I don’t know much about your friend but if she likes this store. She’ll love this collection.” Mylo gestured to the glass display case.
Beau eyes wandered over the different type of necklaces, thinking about it now it’s better than the one he was going to get. Beau carefully observed each one that caught his attention. He then saw one that would fit her perfectly.
“Can I see that one?” Beau asked Mylo, the male slide the door open and pulled out the set of jewelry. It’s a silver color necklace with small earrings and a nice and simple bracelet. The set looked and felt like it belonged on Jaslene’s neck. He admired the pretty necklace for a bit more.
“I’ll take it.” He said looking up at Mylo. He noticed Mylo’s eyes were also on the necklace. “She’s a lucky girl.” He said and put the necklace and its matching jewelry into a nice box. He wanted to ask what Mylo meant but he walked away with them to wrap them up.
“B, you found anything?” James came to stand next to Beau. He recognized Mylo and watched at the longhaired male put the box into a bag for Beau. “Yes I did.” Beau paid with his card, flinching as their hands accidentally touched. He took a deep breath once Mylo walked away again.
“Okay, at least you did.” James sighed disappointed. “I’m going to order a bucket with lots of flowers and we’ll give them together.” Beau agreed besides at least one of them should get flowers or her.
“She’s gonna love this. I can’t want to see her face, B.” James grinned. He ruffled Beau’s curly hair playfully, making Beau laugh. James let go after Mylo returned with the bag.
“Thanks, Mylo.” Beau said without thinking. Mylo’s surprised face made Beau realize what he just said. He blushed red and pulled James away feeling that if he stayed he’ll become red as a tomato.
James raised an eyebrow teasingly at him.
