A whine escaped Beau lips as he watched the line at the counter get longer. Beau called out the names on the drinks in his hands. The girl came and she rudely glared at him taking the drinks. It was the second time that girl had come to the store and demanded a refund for a drink she didn’t like.
Tommy sent him a look with pity but Beau ignored him and went back to making the next drink. Betty was helping him and they were both doing their best to make them fast but neat so they’ll get no complaints.
He arrived at work early thanks to James. After saying their goodbyes Beau made his way to work and since he was early he was able to do his homework before he started to work. Betty came to work to they usually shared shifts. Tommy’s always at work as he is the only manager. The last one was fired for swindling the money and robbing the tips they get.
Beau made his way to wash some of the mugs as Betty made the last order. The mugs were easy to wash compared to the hard time he has making the different drinks at the same time or one after the other. The one he hates to do yet have to do, is making big order of drinks.
Last time he made 10 drinks was a month ago. He was a mess after covered in cream and syrup and coffee stains. He never wore any light color clothes again since. Washing his hands and cleaning the counter he made his way to the jar of cookies and took a few. Sitting down he ate and pulled out a tiny sketchbook from under the table. He kept one ever since he got bored waiting for costumers during quiet times. Doodling mindlessly, letting his hand and mind draw not really paying attention at what he was drawing.
“That’s pretty. Who’s he?” Betty stood next to him. Beau didn’t even notice she was there until she spoke up. He looked down at the drawing noticing he was drawing Mylo. The Mylo he saw at the shop earlier. It was missing details but he could recognize the longhaired male anywhere. Groaning he closed the sketchbook.
“I didn’t even notice.” He mumbled. “You’re done?” Beau asked her instead of answering her. Betty nodded, taking a sit next to him.
Taking a piece of paper he hid in his pocket, he pulled it out and carefully draws a tiny Mylo on it with a cup in his hand and a heart. Beau made a decision to continue his secret notes until the longhaired as in beauty noticed them or ask about them.
His hands shook a bit from anxiety but he took a deep breath. It’s time he tries again. He talked to Mylo but he’s barely acquainted with the man. Small talks didn’t count as friends and besides he didn’t want to be friends. He is daring himself to put it in his next order and wait for Mylo’s reaction.
The next time he sees Mylo, the longhaired male was standing in front of Tommy ordering his drink and a blueberry cheesecake to go. Beau thought this was his chance to put the nicely drawn and written note. So he took it and made sure to put it in the bag Betty was packing the blueberry cheesecake after confirming it was Mylo’s order. Betty had given him a questioning look but didn’t say anything to him which he was glad for.
“Hi B.” Mylo greeted him when he passed by where he was waiting. Stopping he turned to him with a startled expression. “Oh. Hi Mylo.” He managed to greet him without stuttering. “How are you?” He leaned on the counter, glancing around him made sure there weren’t any more costumers waiting and gave Mylo all his attention.
Mylo smiled. “I’m good. You saw me earlier, B.” Mylo let out a cute laugh which left him staring. Beau almost blurted out his feelings right then. “I um, yeah. Still, it’s a couple of hours ago though.” He stuttered, his eyes darting anywhere but the smiling male in front of him. Thankfully Betty came and handed the man his order saving him from saying anything embarrassing.
“Well, I’m still good. Good luck to you friend’s recitals. See you around, B.” Mylo waved at him and Beau watch him go.
“You are so stupid.” Betty said sighing. Beau turned around eyed her confused. Noticing his confusion the girl shook her head her hair bouncing with her movement. “You put something in the bag right? I hope it was your number.”
“NO!” Beau shouted a bit too loudly, making the costumers look their way startled by the loud noise. Betty hid her face in her hands, she groaned quietly. Moving away from him, she jabbed his side hard. Beau scrunched down slightly in pain, but kept his silence not wanting anymore unwanted attention.
“Anyway, whatever you wrote better not be cheesy pick up line.” Betty rolled her eyes, walking to the counter to make a drink. Beau scratched the back of his head. He didn’t exactly write anything cheesy just honest words about his feelings and a cute drawing.
Tommy interrupted their conversation with a panicked expression. “We have a big order again.” Both Beau and Betty faces paled. His nightmare came true, the one where he spend his Tuesday in P.E class busting his ass and work nonstop at the coffee shop making 20 drinks for one order.
“I hate Tuesday…” Beau muttered resigned to his fate as he made the tenth drink. He glared at the cup in his hands. He also wanted to hide the pounding of his heart from excitement and dread that settled into him. The reality catching up to him; he really put the note in the bag.
When Beau got home he was exhausted than ever. He almost dropped on his bed, but he had things to do. So after taking a shower and dressing in sweatpants and a random shirt he made his way downstairs. Toto followed him to the kitchen and whined. The dog had his bowl in front of him begging for his meal. “Yes Toto. I know,” Beau filled his automatic food bowl every day and it had a timer for when to feed the dog when they aren’t home.
Filling the bowl and turning it back on, he filled the water bowl as well. Then he made dinner and the next day meals. His aunt has a long shift and won’t be home for the next two days. It made the house feel lonelier than ever. He has Toto and he’s busy with school and work so he hardly feels it. It only hits him when he comes home to an empty house.
After eating and putting the things away in the fridge he made his way to his room Toto following him. He finally dropped exhausted on his bed falling asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
“I did it again…” Beau confessed to his best friend when she came over after school. Jaslene was lying down on his bed with a book open in front of her. He short her pulled back messily on her head and Beau sat on the ground with Toto lying by his feet. They were doing a science project together and they both needed as much help as they can get from each other.
It had been a week of writing notes during his shift and putting them in Mylo’s to go bags. It left him anxious each time not wanting to be caught. He hadn’t told Jaslene or James about it, wanting to keep it to himself for a bit longer.
“Wait…Did what again?” Jaslene glanced at him from the book confused at the sudden change of subject. Beau eyes wandered anywhere but his friend. He didn’t know how to let her know he tried the love note thing again. She would probably be excited but still he was anxious.
“I… I give him a love note for a week.” Beau peered down to his hands playing with the hem of his sweater. “I did it for a week. I- I know I should have told you but I wanted to keep it to myself. Just for a while longer.” Jaslene was silent, and slowly he looked up in her direction. He saw the biggest grin he ever seen on her face. It made him lean back at the sight.
“Oh, B! I’m so proud of you!” The girl jumped from the bed and hugged him tightly. He shrunk away from her touch but relaxed slightly. It was just Jaslene showing her excitement. No need to panic. “Oh, I’m sorry. But I really glad you did it.” The girl pulled away and Beau relaxed completely. Beau smiled, feeling a bit of confidence seep in. “So am I.”
